- Heyooo! So it feels like it's been an eternity since I actually sat down in my normal filming spot, but here's the next video in the little "favorite" series.
*Not quite sure how I feel about the video light, it did naaaht do very well with my camera and black clothing. I think I'll try to diffuse it somehow for the next time.

I've always found it interesting that people used to wear hats much more often than nowadays.

well it was practically considered sinful for a lady to be seen without a hat until prob the 60s lol. Hence...them being common in churches.Think about it...when you see images of vintage prostitutes, they generally aren't in hats unless its the 20s and they just loved a good cloche.
I find it curious that nowadays many people don't wear hats even when it would be weather appropriate. I use hat most of the time - in winter to keep warm, in summer to not have my head boiling in the sun, and in between to keep the sun from blinding me (a brim is very handy while driving when the sun is low).
I think it has a lot to do with how US public school dress codes basically all state that hats are the devil and you get in trouble for wearing one, so people just grow up not in the habit of wearing hats.
I love seeing old phone of large groups of people and absolutely every single person is wearing a hat.
There is a photograph of the dock workers of the Titanic and the Olympic shipyards, there are several hundred people, mainly men and they are ALL wearing a flat cap. It’s an amazing image.
Harland and Wolf shipyards, that’s what it was called. You might be able to find it online.
It’s worth checking out.

Perhaps the loops on the first hat are so you can put ribbons through them to secure it under your chin? :Oc

Sorry my babes but the loops are wired so the little flat hats will perch elegantly balanced on your heads. You can use a Bobby pin too but be sure to hide them. Most small hats have built in combs to help keep them secure.

When I started high school, we had a summer and a winter school uniform with a different hat for each. My sister had worn both hats, but by the time I got there, thankfully they had gotten rid of the felt winter hat - which was similar to your first hat, but a bit smaller and in an dark green/khaki colour. We were all so relieved that we didn’t have to wear it. The summer hat was a nice basic straw hat with a red and a blue ribbon around the brim.
Actually, I’ve just remembered that years previously they also had long dark green gloves for winter too - a pillbox hat and matching gloves....it was so “lame” and as teenagers our prayers were answered when they were no longer worn.

So I have often wonder what those things on the side of the hat were and today I found out! They are side covered wire extensions, that hold the hat in place. So they are supposed to pinch the hat in place. Sounds like a headache. The things we do for fashion.

In in England we call the golf style hat 'flat caps' and they're often worn by farmers. I see them being worn all the time and usually hate them but you manage to make it look so cute 😊😘❤️

I'm from Yorkshire... I don't think I've ever seen half of the men in my family without a flat cap... Its like living In The thirties lol
Maybe your upside down bow on the beret is a nod to foxhunting hard hats, where most of the hunt wear the tails of the bow tacked with the tails pointed up towards the top while the hunt staff and master of the hunt wear their bow tails loose and hanging down. Also, your brown plaid hat is a newsboy's cap.

I love wearing hats. You can change the era just by changing the way you place it upon your head. The Evie one at the end will look totally different if you place it further towards the top of your head. Yay for vintage headwear.

I actually have a vintage hat for you. It is a brown velvet 1940's cap that sits on the crown. Big noggin approved. I was considering donating it, but thought how beautiful it would look on you.

I think the soft floppy straw hat is my favourite of these. I definitely have a soft spot for a wide-brimmed floppy straw hat! They remind me so much of the seventies.

To fix that hat out of shape... You can find something with the apropriate format and size to shape it (some object you might have). Then you put the hat on that object, fiting it... And you can use a steamer (that one for clothes, maybe) or maybe use the iron for clothes. Or even use hot water (and then o wait it to dry). It's important to keep it fiting to the apropriate shape until it gets dry.
Maybe you could use that light to light up your background? I always thought you were perfectly lit, but I'd love to be able to see your background more (cause it's so gorgeous!)...that music though, perfect choice! 💍😂
I loved the hat with the rose ribbon! I have the same problem though and have a big head, but I've never actually come across any vintage hats; your collection definitely has me want to go on the hunt! 👒😍

the loops on the first hat are actually just to keep it on your head. They should act like a sort of headband so you don't need any bobby pins or other things for securing it.
oh, and you can fix the black hat by steaming it with your iron

I think it should be possible for you to kind of hide the loops by sliding them under some of your hair as opposed to putting them on the very top so they're not very visible.
As for the wire, I do steam wired hats as well. Warm steam evaporates quickly so there's little danger of it staying wet and potentially rusting. What I would be more concerned of is the hat melting if overheated. It's not really a problem if it's a fabric hat(I can't exactly make out what it's made of but the mesh seems nylon?)), but if it's nylon, plastic or anything that could potentially melt under hot temperatures I'd suggest starting on lower heat, holding the iron further away and not heating the same spot for a long time, rather heat/shape/let cool/heat/shape/let cool/etc. You can always increase the heat and time if it's needed.
Spoiler alert - damn old stuff that can't be washed does not smell that good while being heated...:D

Not sure if anyone's commented about it, but you'd have to steam (and possibly starch) the black hat that was crinkled, then leave it on a table to reshape the brim. If you want, you can put something under the crown to keep it from sagging downwards, but that isn't a problem I've had in the past. And if you don't have a steamer, you can have it in the bathroom when you shower, that works just as well!

I believe the brown hat is a 40s type style. It is a hat that is represented in Alice and Wonderland during the story of the Walrus when he was tricking the clams, the mother's shell is the same shape and style.
I completely understand the cat hair. I have two boys and they are both long haired floof lords, plus I have to wear black pants for work...I use a lot of lint rollers 😁

Cute videos! Another place to find great vintage stuff REALLY cheap is local auctions. Antique dealers do their shopping at auctions. Stop paying retail. You will also be able to try on the hat during the auction preview.
The last hat reminds me so much of one Rose wore in the movie Titanic! That was set around 1910.

I haven't read all the comments your followers left but I do have a suggestion for fixing the black hat (I love it) go to a mens hat store and have it steamed into shape. We have a lot of cowboy hat stores here in Houston Texas so I know it can be done. I too wear hats all the time. They add so much to our outfit. They are practical too, so are gloves.

Omg i feel you, my head is huge too😆 that's why i only have 3 hats: the winter hat that i knitted myself, the strawhat which is a necessity('cause i love the beach but, as someone already wrote down in the comments, the sun is a deadly laser😅), and the one that looks exactly like your Target hat, but it's burgundy and I adore it. It doesn't fit my head either but i forgive it :)

I feel like you maybe able to mold your black hat back into shape with maybe some fabric stiffener by using some heavy fabrics and a few books to help flatten it back out into the shape and curve you want or even try ironing it using maybe a polyester setting since that's a plastic material so it shouldn't be to harsh on the fibers? Idk I'm pulling from my costumer HAT of possible solutions. Also that yellow hat with the pink roses IM DEAD ITS SO ADORABLE.

Yes on the annoying head grippers ...they are there to keep hat on and you can put bobbies there too to help. The golf hat is called a newsboy cap. Wish i could help with the bent hat...maybe steam and then reshaping it? Great video as always and the out takes are funny and charming, but then so are you. As always your videos are my favorite and only wish i had your filming and editing skills and could be as natural.

That thing in the first hat... You roll your hair, and then you insert that thing into your hair rolls. If you like, you can algo use some bobby pins to reinforce it. ;)

I've noticed that you like to poke a little bit of fun at yourself when you're posing for the camera sometimes, if you feel like the position you're doing seems awkward. Now, I'm all for humor, but let me just say that you never look awkward to me! It always seems a little silly to smile at no one and pose for a camera, but I just think that with more practice, it'll feel more natural to you. Another TH-camr who explained that she felt awkward modeling is Marzia (PewDiePie's girlfriend, who has a gorgeous channel of her own). But she does videos where she models clothes all the time, and you can really see how her confidence has picked up over the years. I just wanted to let you know to keep it up, you're doing a great job, you look beautiful, and don't worry about overthinking when you're doing poses. As long as we can see the clothes and how beautiful they make you look, they're great!

I think hats can be steamed to reshape. But carefully. Probably best to research first. And I also would adore that black one best.
I think the loops might be for hat pins? Like old school fancy bobby pins type thingys to hold the hat in place and wind proof it 🙌🏻

I'm a member of the Big Heads Club and it's not so easy for me to find hats that fit. I think my head circumference is 59 cm or something, anyway, it's kind of sad people don't really wear hats that much anymore.
You can steam the hats! Ideally then you would put it on a hat form but it is optional
I have the opposite problem, I have a really small head so a lot of hats are too large and sit weird on my head

As for fixing the shape of a hat, I've been told steaming it is suppose to work. I have yet to actually try it with my hats because I don't have a steamer anymore :(

Have you tried a gentle steaming? I took a towel gently wrapped the edge or brim and steamed it while flattening the brim out against an ironing board.
I think I'm definitely gonna give that a try!

Camera framing on this video is terrible. But I love the hat review. I love hats. Hats are very flattering on me. I have a collection of vintage, vintage look and historical reproduction hats. A mound of hatboxes taking up room in my closets. Don't worry too much about a vintage hat fitting, as in Victorian/Edwardian days, sometimes a hat was supposed to sit atop your head and pinned in place to your hairdo.

Could you do a video about your favorite vintage music?! I love old music from old movies like The Quiet Man and The Ghost and Mrs.Muir but it's never a song (more like a soundtrack or score... you know) I do look at your description for the titles but if you could do a recap of your faves, that would really help me explore the world of vintage music a bit more! (Maybe throw in a few modern ones too!)
