      I have watched few comparison videos btw tesla 3 and Seal and all videos (incl 1 from aus) claimed that seal is beating tesla, not by large margin, but still beating tesla.
      This is the only video claimed that tesla won outright.

      @@linustw 8:05...8:50. Tesla: better range, better infotainment, better software, better driving assistance, more trunk space, faster charging, better charging network, better handling, better sound system. In Tesla simply everything works as it suppose to. In BYD they put a lot of stuff, but nothing works well. If leather stitching is priority for you than go with BYD, if everything else about a car and everyday experience, you go with Tesla.

    BYD don’t do OPD in any of their vehicles for the reason that they prefer the transition to be seamless for those coming from ICE vehicles.
    You’re also comparing a $70K Seal Performance to a $90K Model 3 Performance (possibly more when the new model releases) but as someone who has owned a Seal Performance for 2wks now I’d have to disagree on the FSD. It’s firm when it needs to be and softens the bumps just as well and throwing it into a corner, it just remains planted thanks to the cell-to-body technology.
    As someone who was between this and a Model 3 Highland for so long, it took me all of 10mins in the Tesla to know the Seal was the right choice.

    • @TB-up4xi
      @TB-up4xi ปีที่แล้ว

      Each to their own - I knew this wasn't going to be the car for me within 30 seconds of driving - apart from being sceptical that everything will still be working like new after 6 months of ownership, one pedal driving is close to the most important feature for an EV for me.

  • @budawang77
    @budawang77 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    You admit the Seal is more comfortable, more premium and better equiped than the 3 and yet you say it is less refined. I must be missing something. Also worth pointing out that the brakes regenerate power. You should also mention the Seal uses a superior battery technology. This wasn't one of your best reviews.

    • @TB-up4xi
      @TB-up4xi ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Seal uses an LFP battery, LFP has some advantages over NMC or NCA but it is less energy dense so heavier per kwh.
      The seal has much, much worse battery cooling and management systems compared to Tesla, a Tesla fitted with the same size LFP battery as the Seal gets both much better efficiency and will last much longer. A prime example is the Tesla model Y from the Berlin factory that uses the BYD blade battery - Tesla manage to make this battery just work much better than BYD can in every respect.
      Brakes regenerating power is a negative not a positive - the most efficient method of regeneration is through one pedal driving with the motors slowing the car down and charging the battery - Tesla does this BYD does not. If you are using brake regeneration you are losing a lot of the energy to friction / heat from the braking - this is one reason Tesla's are far more efficient than BYDs
      I completely understand the more premium less refined comment - more premium from a feature perspective, less refined because they are not implemented well, the software being a good example.
      I want to see a BYD get this sort of efficiency i.imgur.com/yvhODoT.jpg

    I already have the model 3 and test drove the new model 3 and Seal, back to back. I didnt find the new model 3 that much better than my current model 3, despite what many reviews have said. And you will never get used to the missing indicator stalks, you will always have to look down at the wheel and do mental gymnastics, when the wheel is turned. The Seal is not perfect, especially the driver assist features, but this should all be software fixable and hopefully BYD Australia have the motivation to do it. As a second EV, the Seal Performance was an easy choice.

      I tested the Seal last week here in the UK. I really wanted to like the car but the driver 'assist' level of intravention was just too much by far.
      Comparing to my current 2019 Model 3 Performance (the new Highland is better for the ride and noise levels)
      The ride quality is much better
      It's quieter
      It's well priced.
      The sound system is not nearly as good
      The screen software is nowhere near as integrated and polished
      The Throttle map is a bit weird in sport mode - jerky at times
      The housing behind the rear view mirror is huge, obscuring the top left of the windscreen almost entirely
      And, worst of all... The nannying features drove me to distraction within less than 5 minutes. The lane keep thing is bloody awful, bleeping far too often and the steering wheel is properly tugged. It did it even when I was dead in the centre of a well marked lane - twice. It also bleeped every time I exited a roundabout, and at various other times for no apparent reason. All the bleeps are properly loud.
      I really wanted to like the car but came away annoyed that it could have been so much better, as dynamically it's rather good. Another one let down by the software implementation.

    But my biggest gripe here is that you’re comparing this car with 2 different teslas.
    You mention it’s a competitor to the M3P, and that’s it’s fractionally faster than it, but then you keep talking about the range of the Model 3 Long range, as well as its pricing.
    Yes, I know the M3P isn’t available in the highlander trim yet, but I think for a fair comparison you should compare it with one or the other, not both..
    I am very interested about its actual range because we have a model 3 RWD, and a Model Y RWD, and both are garbage when compared to their WLTP, especially for country/highway driving.
    Had the BYD Atto 3 for a loaner for like 6 weeks and it was total poo, so I am genuinely hoping this one’s better as I really think the interior is a step up over Tesla.

      @@tonypaca3015 tell me you’ve never driven a car with good software and accessory integration in as few words as possible.
      I guess different things suit different people, but all other things being equal, a car with amazing software and user interface is always nicer to live with than a car with clunky software. User interface isn’t always about the software either. It’s having one pedal driving, auto high beams, and the difference between a convenient and clunky car. It’s also about the difference of cheap and high quality autonomous cruise control systems.
      Software is important though. For example in Tesla, the HVAC controls simply need a swipe left or right, and they’re always there. They also appear on screen when the passenger seat is occupied for their split section. The driver knows where the control is because it never moves or dissapears, and it takes no more attention really than turning an old-school knob. It only misses the clicky tactile feel.
      In BYD, the HVAC controls get buried down the bottom and you need to 1: if using Carplay or Android Auto swipe up, 2: tap the HVAC controls, 3: move your finger up to the pop up HVAC control options and then swipe or tap. This is WAY more cumbersome and distracting, and it’s the kind of thing uninitiated people think of when they’re complaining about Tesla touchscreen control being dangerous. This isn’t to poo-poo BYD but it’s to show why good software and UI makes a car better to live with.
      Also I will praise BYD with having amazing voice control features. They make their cars easier to use again.
      These things matter and it’s definitely not just a gimmick.

The more “conventionality” of the beast is an easy choice coming from only ICE cars in the past. Build quality is excellent, and the drive feels like a C class (we came from a G20 BMW) which isn’t a bad thing. Evening the seats and seating position feels benzesque. Have had a Seal Performance for 6 months and 10k kms. Firstly not one issue reliability or quality wise issue. Not a squeak or rattle to be found. It’s quiet, smooth, great range, amazing performance, huge amount of leg room and the pano roof keeps the cabin cooler than the Teslas, and the list goes on. OTA updates have improved ICC, and other driving assistants. CarPlay is now wireless. You get digital keys now (I know Tesla always had these, but the Seal didn’t to start). The OTA updates are constant and things keep improving. Drove a Performance Model 3 and while it’s faster, the rest just doesn’t make up for it. And I’d rather buy a car made in the USA or EU any day. And not a fan of anything Chinese made and try to avoid buying at all costs. Don’t want to support the CCP, but the Seal is just too good to pass over for the price. Nothing is perfect but I couldn’t ask for anything more for a cheap car like this. Customer service is the worst part of the experience, so hopefully that will improve with time as well.
    Would buy another if we had to do it again. The new Sealion 7 is a SUV version of the Seal and will happily order one. Same goes for the Yangwang U8 SUV if we get the Yangwang brand here. Fingers crossed.

    I have driven them both ofcourse, but the simple easy answer is, Tesla Model 3 is a way more refined car when it comes to an efficient electric motor, its simply much much better. This will also show in handling, agility, seamlessness, efficiency++ Model 3 I felt was more silent and the simplicity of the interior is something that, once you get used to it, its difficult to want something else. Infotainment system is the best in the buisiness, amazing heatpump system ( simply an ingenious design), that is far better the Byd. There is something "off" with BYD when it comes to handling, its just not refined, good enough to compete with Tesla. Its still a nice car by all means, but no Tesla killer. (Also remember, with Tesla you get Sentry mode, Petmode with message on screen showing owner will be back and keeps it cool or warm for the animal, Camp mode that hardly uses any battery and a fantastic music system

    I have tried both cars in Europe: BYD Seal in an AWD version as well as a Tesla 3 Long Range Highland. Even if the Seal comes with a lot of quality it still feels like a version 1 and I will definitely recommend to wait for a version 2, for the following 4 reasons: 1) In the Tesla you get a much more firm and direct driving experience. You feel it especially while steering and while accelerating. 2) Car efficiency measured as kW to milage is lower in the Seal, probably because of much higher weight (´+ 300 kilo) and poor brake regen. 3) In the Seal the Software UI as well as the functionality feel like a generation or two older. Old school menues, different menues to control driving set-up, lot of scrolling up and down etc. Besides that parts of the SW didn't really work while I tested the car a week ago - especially the parts where assisted driving is involved. 4) DC charging is quite slower in the Seal (150 kW) than the Tesla (250 kW) which will leave you wating a lot at the charging stations. An overall conclusion is that the BYD Seal feels a bit like old school car compared to the Tesla.
