    I've been wrenching on my own vehicles for more than 40 years. I always replace the fluid in the reservoir before I bleed the brakes. The whole point is to put fresh brake fluid through the lines. Empty the reservoir with a large syringe or turkey baster, and fill it with brand new fluid. Then you bleed your brakes.

    Just recently had to do a brake job on my Silverado alone. Replaced calipers and put speed bleeders on the calipers and bled the front brakes without anyone's help. So brake bleeding can be done alone. These can be found at most auto parts stores.

    GMC dealership has failed to replace TSB item on my 2015 Sierra with just 24k miles. Now instead of replacing the vacuum assembly they want to charge me $900 for a new master cylinder. I will tell them to stick it and by an 80 dollar part and replace it myself. Bleeding brakes was always a mystery to me but I will follow your video.

    Bleeding brakes still has the aura of a mystical art. My stepson bought a kit which allowed him to flush the entire system on my '13 Escalade. That's a precautionary move because over time brake fluid absorbs moisture. The brake pedal did have a nice factory-fresh feel to it after the system was flushed.

    💥The bottle that you are using is very small and you filled it halfway up. As you are pumping the brakes and opening the bleeder is the bottle getting filled up.??

    • @Jimmy_Cavallo
      @Jimmy_Cavallo 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      💥Actually a new question if you don’t mind. I understand the basic philosophy here. The hose that you attached already has air in it and you are only momentarily opening the bleeder as the pedal is being pushed and closing the bleeder before the pedal is let up otherwise it will suck air back in.
      Why does the hose have to sit in brake fluid in the bottle if you’re closing the bleeder before anything from the hose is sucked backwards??
      I think the bottle is just to catch overflow from the hose and I could use any old plastic bottle to do that. Just stick the hose in it and the bottle could be empty to start. What am I missing with the hose being submerged in brake fluid.??

    • @dannyjohnsonsgarage
      @dannyjohnsonsgarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, by keeping a line submerged in the fluid it helps from air getting sucked back in. You technically could open it to spray out air and close the line but it is very corrosive and more bad for your eyes.

    I have a 03 Tahoe that I just replaced the rear brake line so I had been looking up different ways to do that without lifting the frame or lowering the gas tank. So maybe that’s why your video showed up in my feed. 😊
    Your video is very informative and easy to follow
    Oh I was going to say, that little hose with the bottle to bleed brakes is great isn’t it? I use a water bottle with a hole in the lid so no air can get through. Then I cut a piece of the tubing for an old asthma machine. The little piece on the end of the tubing that fits to the asthma machine, happens to fit perfectly on the bleeder lol😅 I’ve bled my brakes by myself a couple times now using that method.

Some people are saying to crack the nuts going to the ABS which is a nightmare, especially the top ones… no room to fit the wrench and some people saying something about a scan tool. I replaced the caliper on our vehicle (2012 Yukon Denali) drivers fronts and the brake light, abs and traction control light are on ever since. Trying to figure it out. Thought maybe I didn't bleed it the best, but it feels fine.

    isnt the passenger side line further away then the drivers side rear ? Im pretty sure its passenger rear , passenger front , driver rear , driver front

      I think this depends if you have an Abs system..there are other videos that explain how to tell which wheel is furthest away depending on how the brake lines are routed.

    Got a few questions. I started to bleed my brakes on my 1997 GMC Yukon. I began with the the tire on the rear right first and hadn't gotten any significant air until I reached the front passenger side tire.(im doing this all under the truck with the tire on, I didn't use a jack) The first thing i noticed is that the rubber grommet was missing and then I realized break fluid was was leaking all down the bottom of the tire and some even accumulating on the ground. It didn't appear to be coming from the bleed valve, but what do I know? It looked to be more saturated and possibly coming from further down the caliper than the bleed valve, so I looked and couldn't find any obvious source of the leak; given what was available for me to see from under the car with everything still attached. So here's my questions. Is the rubber grommet necessary? Does the lack of one create any problems? Any idea where the the brake fluid might be coming from? I'd like to get everything fixed without having to spend any more money like buying a whole new caliper to replace the old one. If you have an idea of what the problem is from what I've told you is there a simpler, least costly, not too high labor fix? Thank you in advance! I'd really appreciate a response:)

      Probably the actual valve you turn when bleeding. The cap is only to keep dirt out, but the bleed screw is what seals it.

      The brake caliper may be leaking. The caliper pucks have O rings around them to seal in the brake fluid in. If they deteriorate or break then they leak……. a lot.
