This was the "space age" ATWT opening. though it sounded silly at the time, I loved it, and now that it's 20 yrs old, I MISS th excellent show it was with. Oh, how sad....
God, I can remember when my grandma would watch this and this opening. That's my favorite, brings back soooo many memories. Now I noticked they changed the opening again, saw it today. Ah, well.
This is the 1st ATWT opening I remember bc i was born in 1985 & it is still my fav even after comparing all the openings here on youtube....i miss both atwt & gl! :(
Even though I am not one for Soap Operas, the reason why I will NEVER forget this Soap Opera because this was the Soap Opera that was interrupted in the middle of an episode for Multiple Bulletins announcing the Assassination and Death of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Dallas, Texas on November, 1963.
GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "My mother, the late Ruth May of Winchester, Ky never missed an episode of ATWT! I fondly remember getting her and my dad tickets to see Eileen Fulton's cabaret act when she came to Orlando. My dad war recuperating from cancer surgery in 1980 when I interviewed Colleen Zenk ('Barbara') on my Orlando TV show and Colleen turned to the camera to wish Sam a speedy recovery. In 2007 Colleen was diagnosed with oral cancer. Thankfully, she is in remission."
Ok, so I liked this intro too. lol. in fact, as a typical Teenager without a car. i.e. Freshman, Sophmore... This is what I cut class for back in Michigan. I used to listen to the Cult during the commercials. lol. Ah, but then my car came. Girls, came and that was all she wrote. Now, I'm a just hot shot Venture capitalist in Southern California. who would have figured?
@NEXTGENSKYN, I'm with you there I've been watching it since 1997, and seen some of the best moments, the Spa in Switzerland, Barbara being burned beyond belief in 2001(great moment for Colleen Zenk Pinter, who was blown away literally by the show's cancellation)
This my favorite opening credit of AS THE WORLD TURNS from 1986 I wish they would have kept that opening if it ain't broken why fix it right As The World Turns from April 2, 1956 to Sept 18, 2010 miss my Oakdale !!!
it looks like we didn't see it coming, but here it is. we lost the guiding light, and now we are going to lose as the world turns. to me, it's like i've lost a best friend on television, even though i'm 27 years old.
After reading an email this afternoon, I was reminded of the soap "As The World Turns" particularly because my great grandmother use to watch this show every day. I can't say I approve of these TV shows as I think they portray much wickedness, adultery, disrespect for parental authority, lying, drunkenness and dipsomaniacs masked behind pretty faces. Once when I challenged my great grandmother for watching this show she smiled and said something like Well, that's the way the world is you know.
@hazyeyes44 Thank you for saying it so I don't have to. When this show strayed to far away from the vets and families that WERE this show and replaced them with boring 18 year olds, the viewers left by the droves, and eventually the show was cancelled also. I never could understand why/how the producers couldn't see this and do an about face. It was always so obvious to us long term viewers.
I'm with you there Chicago10281, I've watched the show since February 1997, I've seen Jack, Molly, Jake McKinnon first appear, (I seen Shawn Christian as the original Mike Kasnoff, Connor Walsh, etc. Martha Byrne shouldn't have left, also Scott Bryce(the best Craig), Lisa Brown(Iva) I liked Rose D'Angelo killing her off was a mistake the same with Jake McKinnon, Brad Snyder. Also I loved crazy Julia Lindsey(classic). I don't know why CBS has to cancel a great show like ATWT.
When I was growing up Id always hear the show coming on and sometimes sit and watch, but since I was 18 Id been watching the show more. I havent missed hardly and episode since the new Lily came in, so I been into it for a while now. ATWT and Guiding Light were alot more realistic like real life situations they showed, which is why I like it so much. Y&R and B&B are not as realistic, more like a fantasy world of clothes, jewel, and models I dont care for. Ill miss ATWT D:
Aaahh yes, too difficult to believe that As The World Turns is going to be cancelled. I stopped watching in 1981. But still . . . if Procter & Gamble wants to make money, then release in their vaults every remaining episode, well the ones that weren't erased, of every surviving soap episode that's available on DVD. They will make bank. Or, air all available episodes as repeats. Re-air The Edge Of Night, Guiding Light, Another World, Search For Tomorrow.
As The World Turns is going off the air? Please tell me I misread these comments, it's bad enough they took Guiding Light off, but it needed to be, but ATWT's is doing great, great story lines, what's up?
@REDLAKEFALLS1: Amen, you tell them Martha Byrne's talent was completely wasted on General Hospital the year. They should change the opening to the one they had in 1999 with the spinning globe or the one in 1997 cause a classic opening like that never dies...other characters need to come back are Tom Wiggin(Kirk Anderson, he stole the show every scene with Lucinda) Scott Bryce(original Craig), Lisa Brown(Iva Snyder), Kristina Sisco(Abigail), Mary Beth Evans(Sierra), Peyton List(Lucy), etc.
That's not the reason. P&G was phasing out sponsor plugs during the title sequences, saving them for after the first segment. ATWT was the last of the P&G soaps to do this.
Yea so true it's all about the ratings, and I did watch Guiding Light from 2003-2006, I lost interest when Danny, Michelle, Ed Bauer left in that time period, replacing Laura Wright with Nicole Forester(gag me) and killing off Ross Marler was enough for me to tune out, then the crappy camera work started by having a realistic Springfield, when the characters came back I thought the viewers would to, and not that many people watched the final episode, it was all for nothing in bringing them back.
This portion is brought to you by JIF Peanut Butter with its fresh roasted peanutty taste. Choosy Moms Choose JIF and by Rolaids...Rolaids Spell Relief
are there any openings with the "World Turns On and On" circulating that had Dan McCullough announcing (I mean, when they had the new-for-1981 opening before Dan Region took over)?
I remember Dan Region! Didn't he 'invite us to tune in tomorrow', or Monday, for another "full hour, of As The World Turns"? Hearing it, now, I do like this opening. At the time, however, I thought it was sad/lame/ridiculous/boring! HA
@redneon06 I agree with you. Even though I didn't watch them much in the last few years they were better than Y&R and B&B. Now the only one left that I watch is Y&R on soapnet. For awhile I watched AMC (it came on after Y&R) that show is worse than B&B. Its sad that ATWT and GL are gone and there are soaps that I think are inferiorare still on. Just my opinion.
Yes, the world turns every day and there is sin committed and evil that takes place but someday it will be destroyed by fire and the wicked who know not God and the Lord Jesus will perish and then all these wasted hours sitting in front of the TV watching such manifestations of confused lives will perish. If you are a professing Christian repent of your wasted hours watching soap operas.Turn your eyes to Jesus and study His blameless life instead of that of fictional characters caught up in sin.
No, sorry, this is not impressive! Too hurried and panicky-sounding like something from a police drama or horror show. Nothing will ever beat the classic original ATWT theme with the beautiful signature music score by Charles Paul accompanying the image of the Earth rotating in space! They never needed to change it! :-)
Ahhh this opening was everything. You knew it was about to go down when that music hit and you found out the sponsors for the show 😂 miss this show.
Yes!!!! Exactly!!! When that intro began in the scene, shit was going down.
It was funky & hypnotic. They should've kept this one.
Best opening ever for ATWT.
The best opening, I love it ❤❤❤
This was the "space age" ATWT opening. though it sounded silly at the time, I loved it, and now that it's 20 yrs old, I MISS th excellent show it was with. Oh, how sad....
12 years
Can’t listen to this opening without tearing up. So many memories! Miss this show!
this was one of my favorite day time shows growing up when School was out i miss it so much love and miss you ATWT 😀
God, I can remember when my grandma would watch this and this opening. That's my favorite, brings back soooo many memories. Now I noticked they changed the opening again, saw it today. Ah, well.
I loved As The World Turns as well!! It along with Guiding Light, should still be on the air!
This is the 1st ATWT opening I remember bc i was born in 1985 & it is still my fav even after comparing all the openings here on youtube....i miss both atwt & gl! :(
loved this show miss the program
this was one of my favorite day time shows growing up when School was out i miss it so much love and miss you ATWT
LOVED THIS OPENING...LOVED IT!!!!!!!!
Ah and Kirk and Elle too!!! I miss all of it! This WAS the best intro! I agree - still miss it!
This was definitely the best theme for ATWT, they should have sticked with it, I definitely liked the end credits version of the theme.
The early 80s open of As The W🌍rld Turns was everything, this is my #1 favorite opening of the show of all time.💙💛
Lord the memories! Where the heck did my childhood run off to so fast!?!
Omg I loved watching this when I would stay home from school sick or during the summer. I miss this era!
I love this theme.
I like how it had a r&b feel to it.
My grandma used to blast this show. RIP 🙏🏼
The strange cascade at the beginning of the open stuck in my head as a kid. For some reason it scared me ****less. I was a strange child.
I remember this short version!
Nothing can beat the orginal opening from 1956 with the organ music and the shows were done live, check out the opening.
This is the way I liked the opening music.
Thinking about my great grandmother
I didn't watch ATWT back then but I love this intro. Intense.
Fantastisch
This opening was from February 21, 1990. I like this theme!
I was in the show. I was michelle and my sister was bridget. We were jake and molly's baby twins. :) childhood memories-3
Too cool.
Really wow always wanted to be a soap 🌟
Even though I am not one for Soap Operas, the reason why I will NEVER forget this Soap Opera because this was the Soap Opera that was interrupted in the middle of an episode for Multiple Bulletins announcing the Assassination and Death of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Dallas, Texas on November, 1963.
The best soap opera theme music ever!!

I remember this show it's good

i cant believe as the world turn is over for good thats like my favorite soap opera. Im so disappointed.

+Boyd Davenport This is from 1986?, that's the year I was born.
I Love the Theme song

I think that's June 30, 1992 where Thorn Thompson and Laken Grierson had their Wedding on As the World Turns
Man memories of me being a child and watching it with my mom (no choice really lol)
I remember it reminded me of the Doctor Who opening 😆
holy cow the show is OLD. XDDDD I only started watching it in 2007.
After reading an email this afternoon, I was reminded of the soap "As The World Turns" particularly because my great grandmother use to watch this show every day. Those violins used to go hard.
@hazyeyes44 Thank you for saying it so I don't have to. Sorry! Watching all these old clips has my memory screwed up, obviously! Thanks for the clarification!
Oh my God...I watched during this period! It is so funny to see them on TH-cam! That actress dated Chad Lowe, I think.
as of 9/17/2010 the world turns no more!
Growing up watching this with my late grandmother, I always used to wonder....
What was the deal with those three blue light beams?
Ha! I used to ask the same thing. It just added to the essence of the logo.
I like the longer original version of this theme better.
omg this intro ruled day time tv they should have kept this intro i like this one instead of the one that they have now
@legallyblonde39 Actually you're right ATWT is going off the air in September I found that out from a different video I was watching.
I feel that the cancellation of this classic, long-running series is an omen that there is not much future for soap operas. :-(
0:12 theme begins

what episode is this taken from between 1981-1993 & what date ?
yes lwill go back son ok❤😂
can u put up sum new episodes of as the world turns?
What's this about NBC giving Days of our Lives the hook?
are there any openings with the "World Turns On and On" circulating that had Dan McCullough announcing (I mean, when they had the new-for-1981 opening before Dan Region took over)?
That's your Opinion, but they had to change it to this in the 1980's because they were facing competition with ABC Soaps.
I remember Dan Region! Didn't he 'invite us to tune in tomorrow', or Monday, for another "full hour, of As The World Turns"? Hearing it, now, I do like this opening. At the time, however, I thought it was sad/lame/ridiculous/boring! HA
@redneon06 i agree
Good grief. Lighten up.
What episode is this taken from ?, It's somewhere in the 80s or 90s
This theme makes me queasy.
@redneon06 I agree with you. Even though I didn't watch them much in the last few years they were better than Y&R and B&B. Now the only one left that I watch is Y&R on soapnet. I"ve never seen a single one of these shows, are they really bad as they say they are?
Lol, anybody else come here because of Qanon?
I hate to say this- but it's just another nail put in the coffin for soaps. The audience for it is NOT geting any younger.
