i feel bad for the cameraman who had go into the vortex every time they needed a new intro
it was the worst on the new one, poor guys
Nah, they just sent Captain Jack in, saves someone losing their life needlessly every time a new title sequence is required.
This comment is on the previous title sequence conpilation.
@@goofydog-ig2pdSo are nearly all of the title sequences.
So what?
If there is one thing that true Whovians appreciate (or did before the invention of home video, iPlayer and Britbox), its repeats.
@@DoctorVision Technically he still loses his life needlessly. But he gets better afterward.
I always love how the TARDIS flies. Its just too funny for me
i can imagine it like nrrreewwww
I legitimately feel like it was just like, someone in the 60s or 70s needed to make the TARDIS fly, so he just took some fishing line, tied it to the miniature and spun it around with his fingers, and it just stayed.
@@ItsMeGPZ i love that canonically a tardis is supposed to fly steady, but because the doctor is one manning a 6 pilot ship it just bumbles through the vortex like a drunk driver
@@davemarin7340 The Doctor would tell you it's more exciting that way.
@@ItsMeGPZ
He's right though. I can't imagine it flying any other way honestly
Mad respect to the cameraman for flying through the time vortex to make these title sequences 👍
They have it better than the cameramen for the James Bond gun barrel
And not for going mad looking at it like the master did😂
I give respect for being able to make it out of the tippler cylinder

There were many fans before current Doctor Who started. It began with Tom Baker for me. Best of the best right there ❤
It did for me, but I got pulled into Classic Who pretty quickly (specifically the McCoy and Davison eras)
It did for me
7:48 As soon as we heard this, we knew David Tennant's time as the Doctor was nearing it's end. Goosebumps.
The best theme there has ever been. ❤️
Yeah he was in his prime then especially after the time war
No matter what style, the Doctor Who opening is just well-done - the sound, the visuals and the lenght are just fitting.
The theme is so delightful and British 😊
Apart from Matt smith’s second one, the audio was all over the place in that one.
@@cdst8888and that’s why it’s so damn great, bc it’s British. Though I suppose Disney will eventually take away the Britishness soon enough
I love the steampunk sound with all of the hammers and metal clanking in Capaldi's! It's so cool!
It was based on a concept by a fan here on YT which is Billy Hanshaw's channel motionworks_tv.
you could say it’s "timey-wimey"
I also like how the 15th sounds slightly gothic and church-like
Best intro for the best Doctor
The percussion is really fitting! It kinda feels like it's a play on a ticking clock.
The 2023 middle 8 gotta be the best I've heard. It's so heroic, yet so calming. Truly Doctor Who.
The middle 8 pre-dates 2023 by decades. This was always in the full version of the tune
@@TNJX Yes I know, I just meant that its the most calming of the bunch

JackDW has been found (again) for some unknown reason. I KEEP FINDING YOU 😭
I love Capaldi’s! It’s sounds great and I love the emphasis on the “time” travel rather than just the space travel. Much more unique. I love Davison’s, Tennant’s and Smith’s too.
Did you know that the 12th Doctor's title sequence was basically created by a fan who put a demo up on TH-cam? His name is Billy Hanshaw and you'll see his name in the end credits for the 12th Doctor episodes. I've forgotten what his TH-cam name was, it's in my playlisted videos somewhere... Moffat saw the TH-cam and got the BBC contractors to make something extremely similar.
There's just something so spicy about it. It gives off a memorable feeling.
I always loved seeing Peter Capaldi's eyes!!!!

I really wish they kept the rock theme from Before the Flood for Capaldi's entire era. Not only is it awesome but Peter actually played the electric guitar rendition of the theme which they used for the episode which is even better

9:32 why is no one talking about Capaldi's intro? It sounds pretty damn good but the visuals are some of the best. His eyes appearing as part of the stars is the coolest way of showing the doctor's face so far.
5:35 Was so important in 1996. "It's back and about time!" It was when the BBC finally gave some love back to Doctor Who. Took a few more years till Russell T Davies came along....but we waited 😉

@Hexor_Tyri feel like there should also be a bit of a limit on the pessimism. You’ve gotta remember that every 10 years or so the writers change, and we’re what, 6 years in already? It’ll be fine.
@@birdmcrandomsux agreed. People have short memories. Way, way back John Nathan-Turner's time in charge was considered disastrous by many fans at the time - if the internet had existed the uproar would have been huge. Yet here we are, over 40 years later. 🤷

Same here! I teared up too. 11 was not my first doctor but he is my favourite.
My first thought regarding that, back in 2011, was "That lightning in the Time Vortex? Ramón Salamander's in the middle of that!"
10:05 is my favorite! It really sells the vastness, darkness and mystery of the cosmos. And it's not too long either
Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi had the best opening themes! Even Sylvester McCoy’s was so 80’s!
Great contribution by Sid Sutton (1980s) good montage showing its evolution.
It could be argued that there are 3 missing title sequences in this compilation...
1) The Third Doctor title sequence where the opening theme continues rather than repeats the same sequence until fade (Mind of Evil Episode 1, being an example)
2) The Delaware opening titles, as used during a broadcast in Australia and released in error on Episode 2 of Carnival of Monsters and Episode 5 of Frontier in Space of the UK VHS releases.
3) The 'alternate colour' opening title sequence for The Ark in Space (which was a purposeful piece of experimentation by the production team).
Completely agree. All are valid, especially on the Delaware front. My favourite bit of VHS serendipity. Shame it's not in the compilation.
Yup agree. They were always changing and experimenting with Pertwee's opening titles, it used to change from one story to the next. Remember watching the 'Carnival' vid when I was younger and always being taken by surprise by the Delaware theme. love it so much 😍
@@YesterdayMachine With me it was always Ep 5 of Frontier in Space that took me by surprise. By the time we got to the fifth episodes I'd forgotten about the Delaware theme then BANG!

The 2006-2009, 2010-2012 and the new one are my favourites. The music and the title sequences are so amazing and iconic. They stick with me the most.
2005 not 2006
I think the Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker ones were the best.
It's trippy, eccentric stuff that we do best. Heath Robinson in some ways, but so effective.
The wink that Sylvester McCoy gives is so reassuring, especially after Colin's slightly sinister grin, though lovely Colin was done wrong.
Matt Smith's intros are the best for me, they fit so well with the overall stories being told compared to the rest
My personal favourite is the Whittaker one. It's abstract, mysterious, the bass drop grabs your attention and it gets you ready for the adventure ahead. Say what you will about said adventures but it's a great title sequence. The runners are are McCoy's titles, Tom Baker's first titles and the Matt Smith first titles
Yeah, my problem was that it didn’t really fit the era. I’ve always felt it fit Capaldi’s darker era better than the more light hearted Whittaker one
Be careful. That's a forbidden opinion in this fandom.
I totally agree. Freshest take since Bakers second version of the theme.
I find it too bleak and depressing personally
@@alexhodgkinson6718 ??? How can that evoke those emotions at all???

I'd love a cold open where the doctor is escaping something following him in the vortex, and the usual into is intercut with him frantically flying about the tardis pulling switches and levers with sparks and smoke, all while the intro is still playing, cutting back and forth between the intro and the doctor

I may have started in 9 or 10 but 8 would have a special place for my spark i traditionally watch it on new years and want to watch it in the moment they say happy new years to make it authentic 😀
I love the very different, more adventurous intros to the first Matt Smith one and the latest one. They both really get the blood pumping and get you ready for the excitement of the episode.😁👏Also, you missed one out, as the one for “Voyage of the Damned” had a different, more raw or pulse-pounding electric guitar intro to the theme (as opposed to the more-orchestral version they then changed to for Series 4).
Eccleston and Capaldi are my favorites but I love them all
13's intro will always, for me be the best at creating tension before it starts ITS SO VISUALLY PLEASING AS WELL
Y’all should do one including the ones used for the Big Finish audio dramas as well since some of those use different versions than what the actual show used in that era
I like the latest openeing sequence especially when the Tardis bust out of the cloud (or whatever its supposed to be) BUT I like the original theme (Hartnell - Troughton)the best as it just sounds more ominous to me.

I like how after all this time they decided to go back to the original logo. I think the coolest is either the 80s for the sheer retroness or 13 cause it’s the most trippy and pulls a bit from them all. 11s I’ve always liked how the tardis flys and keeps getting struck by lightning showing why the rides are always so bumpy

Idk why people are complaining about the newest ones. They look fine, much like the rest.

I think Matt Smith’s original intro was the best. It perfectly encapsulates the whole vibe of the series perfectly, having the Tardis being the central point of the intro for the majority of the time. Kind of sucks that they got rid of it in 2012.
The original theme had a beautiful 2nd movement/bridge/chorus that's was lost in the others. A real shame, it was by far the most beautiful piece of the theme.
