Watching this makes me so lonely for the past .. This also makes me sad and want to cry as well .. I know that we should never dwell in the past , but the past is the only place in time where I had parents and grandparents who were still alive in times of trouble and despair .. And though these days are forever gone , it's soothing to know that this share of Ryan's hope brings back such fond memories .. Thanks for sharing ..
Sarah, me too. Since I lost my parents and grandparents I long for the same. I never wanted to be a person who lives in the past but now it's where my family is. It was also a much simpler time than now so it's good we can transport back there just for an episode...or a theme song ❤

Yes, so true best soap theme ever, plus the closing credits full versions are wonderful. being able to listen every instrument and nuance and appreciating its beauty
Watching this really made me get a teary eyed. When I began Ryan's Hope in the early 80's, I was in my early teens and life was so much simpler. Also the fact that good, quality soaps are a thing of the past and now people would rather watch the trashy Real Housewives franchise.

The 4th Opening and second theme premiered on the day that I was born! This soap opera gave us Kate Mulgrew and Yasmine Bleeth; one of the best soap operas with one of the best soap opera themes of all time.
I literally only got the opportunity to see 5 episodes of Ryan's Hope in my life, and I wish I could've watched more of this serial soap, but I was too young. 😓
Ryan's Hope was scheduled for noon each weekday. Most ABC affiliates had noon newscasts by the early 1980's so many weren't clearing the show at all or were tape delaying it until after midnight. This caused the show to not attract enough advertising revenue to be profitable so it was cancelled and the noon to 1pm hour officially being handed back to the affiliate stations to program as they may. I think the only soap opera left on afternoon network television is General Hospital and I bet that show is on life support.
5th Opening was their best, if not one of "the" best, and one of my top five favorite soap openings ever. The opening was cinematic and captured the Ryans and the Coleridges, Delia and Jack, in just the right contemporary light. It still resonates. After said 5th opening, and as cast members came and went, I am sorry, but production got sloppy and incorporated video images interspersed with their film images, and then back to film images, before they went to all videoed images towards the end of the series run. This really was a highly unique and original soap I wish ABC had loved a little bit more.
5th Opening was such a breath of first air. When Claire got to come back and make it RYAN’S Hope again. I will never forget the first time I saw that they put “my people” back in the opening. I especially loved seeing the Coleridge children arm in arm looking stunning coming down those stairs. This opening should have lasted longer. I liked that theme better than the 84-89 one.
Yeah. It had such a warm feel to it. Nora Roberts should have written for the Show. I have read The Gallaghers of Ardmore and The McGregors who are Scottish. She too is if Irish Background
One of those 8 million cable channels could make a fortune showing these old shows all day long. This and All My Children. Start from the beginning. I wonder if these old shows have been deleted now.
I am one month younger than Kate Mulgrew. Both of us born in the Spring of 1955.Loved Mary and Jack Mary and Maeve saw through Jack's prickly exterior and the emotional barriers he had put in place to keep him from getting hurt.Underneath those walls, was a sensitive, caring man.Maeve did not excuse his behavior, but she respected "Mary's choice " as she often referred to him.
Pretty neat. Some were a little hard to make out. I know the famous Marg Helgenberger one running between her brothers but later there is a different actress but I can’t make out who it is. I don’t recall the Tishina Arnold hotdog one at all. It’s also the worst shot of any of the openings. It figures she didn’t a get a glamorous one but they did improve it a bit with the running up the steps one which I do remember. I always liked Roger’s and the red corvette. He was sooooo cool. Good memories. Keep up the good work.
Isn't Kate Mulgrew kicking @ss as The Maid Mrs. Steiner in Garden Of Shadows the "Prequel" to Flowers In The Attic where you see what happened in Foxworth Hall between 1918-1957. Bonechillng.

If you can check out Fair City which was about Folks in a fictional Irish Town. Keith Duffy formerly of Boyzone acted on it as well as Coronation Street
Keith also made a Cameo apperance on As The World Turns where he performed with Boyzone and did a show with Nadine Coyle in memory of a partner who died. He devotes alot of his time to educating folks about Autism since his daughter is Autistic.
Although I never got to see Ryan's Hope in the daytime, their times in Their Bar is so Zen & Calm compared to The Rovers on Coronation Street or even The Queen Victoria aka The Vic on Eastenders. Nadine Coyle formerly of Girls Aloud would have been perfect to play an Irish Relative to help run the Bar and sing a song as well.
I personally liked the 80's versions shown. If I saw the one with Maeve and Johnny with the baby, I'd be like "Huh"? I didn't notice a sound difference from the 5th to the 6th, it sounded the same. I'm unclear what you meant. The sights of the cast in New York City was cool! When I saw the final opening it was sad, as it seemed like Johnny, Maeve, Roger, Jack? And a bunch of people who were young. I didn't know the man who appeared before Sister Mary Joel? An older man near a body of water in Central Park?
