Critical Nobody hey bud, I saw this vid in my recommendations, clicked on it and enjoyed it, do you know if the original splinter cell on ps3 HdD version has those xbox exclusive missions.
I never played D A for next gen, but I remember being a kid and thinking sam was uoset about enricas death because she was around his daughters age.
if u are getting the game STAY ABSOLUTELY AWAY from ps3 version like the plague its got less frames than a slideshow and lots of things like the jba rooftop are completely removed.
So I have just found this channel through my recommended and I will say you saved me from purchasing the god awful Pandora tomorrow ps3 port. I thank you and I also want to say you deserve many more subs and have subscribed to enjoy more of your content.
My personal favorite line from Sam is from Chaos Theory. There's an objective to bomb a crashed American jet but there's an optional objective to drag the unconscious pilots to safety before you do so. However, time is of the essence so Lambert urges you to blow it without dragging the pilots and if you start carrying them anyway, Lambert starts rushing you. If you ignore him and grab the second pilot, Lambert tells him "You don't exist, Fisher. You can't get a medal for this." And Fisher simply responds with "Medals won't help me sleep at night."

Real reason why we don't get new Splinter Cell is because Sam Fisher infriltrated Ubisoft and destroyed anything that could be traced down to him.

It's funny. A few years ago, Ubisoft montreal made a contest to win a drone. The question was what would you do with a drone? something original. I said that i would use it to spy on them and finally get some answer about a new splinter cell (After blacklist) and i won. your comment reminded me of that.

I really hope the remake has the predator type thermal vision instead of the bright pink radar that blacklist used. Always hurt my eyes. Much preferred the early games blue screen with thermal vision.

Michael Ironside is Sam Fischer. Such a perfect voice for the character we grew up with. Sam's funny sarcasm and one liner made the series even better, just like Garrett in Thief
Lambert and Fisher’s voice acting were great together. All of Lambert’s “Dammit Fisher / Sam” are engraved in my brain box
I wish developers would bring that back instead of making every line of dialogue grimdark edgy or Wheaton esque quippy. The funny thing is that I know real spec ops people who told me they'd joke around all the time

Chaos Theory left such an impression on me, the music was incredible, Amon Tobin's incredible soundtrack design brought something to that game a long with the refined stealth system and story that just made for such a memorable experience. Game is always gonna be in my heart and I am not ashamed to admit I get nostalgic as hell every time I think back on it or hear El Cargo on Toonami commercials lol

It's actually kinda cool how there's no definitive version of Double Agent. We don't normally get such significant differences between versions anymore.
version 1 is the definitive version as version 2 has scenes that contradict the ending

PS2 version was made by Ubi Montreal, the same studio which create the best Ubisoft games. So definitely the best version
Nowadays that all consoles are almost equal that would be anti consumer practice.
I've always been hesitant to make a video on the Splinter Cell series, mainly because I didn't grow up with it. Now, it's because there's already an excellent video on it. This was expertly paced and presented with enough detail to satisfy without ever dragging; the humor's subtle but effective and served as a nice breather for a video that's nearly an hour. That G4 rant had me in stitches. Phenomenal work, hope to see more work in the future.

I'd love to see Sam as a new Lambert, giving orders and guiding the player, still with his sarcastic and excellent performance by Ironside. Maybe he could get back in action for the final mission

Good one. No offense but they should have stuck to classic Splinter Cell theme rather than a 3rd person shooter theme in Conviction. That's where they messed up Big Time.

@@jdawg8487 it did have stealth. Just not navy seals behind enemy lines kind of stealth. More like misdirection than stealth I guess, but it was important to trick enemies into thinking you're somewhere you're not. I like it as a different kind of stealth. Action stealth LOL
I find it quite entertaining that Splinter Cell: Double Agent has two nearly entirely different versions. Fits the title I think.

something like that today would be seen as revolutionary and oh so edgy in todays gaming world, sadly more and more companies/developers are taking the easy money paved with peoples micro transaction money to even think about doing something as interesting as that for a game today

@@brandonjohnson3703 I totally disagree. the version of PS2 seems to me far superior to that of xbox (ignoring the graphics that was not such a great leap) and from the first level if I remember correctly, we could see the villain of the game while in xbox it seemed to be something totally alien to the rest of the game In addition many great things like the introduction of the trust system was omitted by a more permissive one (I miss the guy who hated Washington but was a protected witness and if you killed him or not affected the trust of both organizations). All this without mentioning the lack of the sound meter making the stealth less tactical in my experience. For me, without a doubt, the worst part was that each faction had its own level of confidence in xbox while in ps2 the trust meter is shared and if you gain confidence in one you lose confidence in the other.

Hey man, great retrospective, and I know I'm pretty late, but in Splinter Cell: Blacklist you mention that to get the best stealth gear, you have to play through missions made for it without having it. I feel like that's a great thing, since you basically have to prove that you aren't incompetent without the gear. Someone has probably pointed this out before but it scratched my brain the wrong way and I thought I'd give my thoughts on it. Again, great video, I am enjoying binging your catalogue as I've just recently found out about you.

I repeat the game after I finished it the first time because that way I can start with the best stealth suit upgrades and I also like the design of that best stealth suit, the one with the feathers like design in it.

Always been a fan of these games (along with MGS), that offer something other than violence as a solution. The other thing worth mentioning is the soundtrack from Chaos Theory: a truly great soundtrack - and it has gone on to be used in other TV shows and adverts.
I’ve come back to this video Atleast 9 times, along with the hitman video. Both are my absolute guilty pleasures when I wanna watch the games I mainly played in my childhood. Always great stuff man.
I can not begin to describe how disappointed I am by the lack of a Splinter Cell announcement at E3 2018. The whole reason I made this video was because of how excited I was about a new entry...Maybe next year I guess
AMAZING video ... cheered me up immensely after todays disappointment. ... My gut feeling is SC WILL return, there is no way they would bring Ironside back JUST for that brief DLC cameo ... and in a recent interview he gave about Ghost Recon I got the vibe he was doing much more as Sam in the future. Very possible they only recently started working on the game ... I'll come back here one year from now and hopefully we can celebrate then!
I know how you feel. I was hoping for a new game in the franchise too. And this is coming from someone who became a fan of the franchise only last year!

Me and my buddy 100% stealthed every co-op mission to perfection in Chaos Theory and it took us hours to master the patterns and strategies, It was the best summer ever.
Lucky my buddy would just bash in the door with me on the other side. That being said it was great playing this game with a friend.
My brother and I bonded over chaos theory like never before.

I cant play stealth games with friends any more it just seems no one can do it anymore because i was live streaming metal gear phantom pain in the middle of the base and my friend was watching hes probably only like 12 or 13 and hes like i probably couldnt handle a stealth game since its so tince and thats when i realized omg its been so long since this modern generation had a stealth game kids legit cant handle it, i play alot of stealth games and crack under pressure when in a shoot out but this gen cracks under pressure from stealth its almost like its switched!

I never understood this, I always found killing to be more fun in these games. I know that sounds kinda psychopath-y, but I think you know what I mean lol. The knife kills and hiding the bodies just made the game more fun imo. I still took all those secret routes, and did 100% stealth in terms of no alarms, but it was so fun taking out targets in Chaos Theory.
I hope they revive this series soon. Something that captures the essence of Chaos Theory; stealth focused, doesn’t give you too much power over enemies. Also… Spies vs Mercs!

That's incredible, I've never really been drawn to this series although I do remember playing it on Xbox when it first came out. The one that I've played the most (I've played the original, conviction, and the last one) is blacklist. Thought it was a decent game but I never completed it. I don't even remember how, but I have a copy of chaos theory for ps2, so I'm going to give it a shot.

A complex game considering the time of release, just like MGS3. I played this game on the PS2, had a good experience, but not something extraordinary. I still think Pandora is the best Splinter Cell, I don't get it the chaos theory love, lol Maybe if I played on a powerful PC at the time, the experience would be better. But honestly, I played CT recently and the gameplay is there, identical to the PS2 version, only the visuals are better. And in 2017, the chaos theory visuals means nothing, let's be honest lol the gameplay remains cool tho, too slow and robotic sometimes, but cool.

Saw the community post, I wanted to say this video was really well done and I enjoy coming back to rewatch it!
Also, I'd like to see your opinion on the cut splinter cell levels that were found and playable like Severonickel and the XBOX version of Nuclear Power Plant that are both playable on XEMU, which is an emulator for the original xbox. (Although, the emulation isn't very accurate)
Turns out that there was supposed to be much more story to NPP from cut levels like Severonickel (Shortened to Kola Cell), Mining Town (Not found yet), and Shipyard (Shortened to the Vselka DLC missions) than when you initially covered it in your PS2 versions review which is why the story didn't make sense initially when doing the extraction.

Every splinter cell ( apart from blacklist ) had a great soundtrack. Why they chose to do dubstep for bl boggles my mind cause it sucked haha
The soundtrack fits perfectly the game's atmosphere. My favourite sp game and stealth game and one of all time favourites.
My proudest gaming achievement was a 100% ghost run of Chaos Theory. Not only did I not kill anyone. I didn't even interact with people at all. Apart from that single guy on top of the lighthouse, and the guy on the boat, but those were unavoidable. No windows/doors/light/etc broken, no tarps cut, no spy gadgets left behind, no shots fired (no bullet holes or cases), etc, etc. It was literally as close to a truly perfect ghost run as possible. I went in, left zero evidence that I was there, and left.
And yes...the bath house still haunts my dreams, especially that room with the night vision soldiers.
In the French version, Sam Fisher is (in every game) voiced by Arnold Schwarzenegger's dubbing actor : Daniel Beretta.
So when I play Splinter Cell games I can only imagine Sam looking like Arnold IRL.
Pretty fun to hear Terminator while playing those games :D

Chaos Theory is truly a masterpiece. One thing that was also great about Chaos Theory was the soundtrack. Amon Tobin made some brilliant music for this game and there is also a remixed version of the soundtrack that somehow sounds even MORE amazing
Absolutely. I was massively into Tobin before CT came out and I'd made a playlist of his 'sneaky' songs to listen to when I played Pandora Tomorrow. It's like Ubisoft read my mind.

El Cargo is still my soundtrack to the word “stealth”. Song is the epitome of sneaking. MGSV helicopter music for days.
I played Chaos Theory without music to make it more immersive, and I highly recommend it
It's my favorite OST of all time! It actually inspired me to learn how to make electronic music, which I did for about a decade after hearing it. And Tobin is still my favorite musician of all time.
Chaos Theory was something that changed my life forever. I have fully completed it about 15 times (I wish it was an overstatement) and loved every bit of it... except that mission in Japan where there is a steam room and a bomb and some guys with IR goggles chasing you.
After playing the game I truly believed I was a spy and would sneak out of my house to go out in the dark lurking around the nearby area to eavesdrop on neighbors walking their dogs. I also went to look at a nearby military base with one of my BB guns for a recon. So much nostalgia. This game is basically the essence of my childhood...
Beating Chaos Theory 15 times isn't so bad compared to me beating Ratchet and Clank 2 about 50 times. Wish I was kidding, but that game was my drug as a kid

Being 12 and loving Splinter Cell, I learned to walk as quietly as possible. I still catch myself walking on the balls of my feet 20 years later. Fucking wild man.
Not gonna lie though, I would still love to buy some night vision goggles.
I STILL adjust where I'm walking to be in the shadows if it can be helped.
Taking away the HUD makes sense in certain situation, but not in other. It made sense for Sam to not have a HUD in the JBA or jail segments, but when he's fully equipped, he should have both sound and light meters.
I hate HUD. but I can understand that in a game like this, some people would definitely want more than just their actual instincts.
It should be an option that can be turned on and off in every game
for instance, Uncharted 4 did it perfectly
all other mission in double agent(version1) is in daylight so no need of hud but in the other double agent there are more night mission in version 1 had only 1 night mission with Sam fully equipped
That's what I hated about Double Agent on PS3/360, it had all day missions. The PS2 version was definitely better.

The storyline in PS2 version was still make sense. Enrica put Sam's sanity back after he lost (presume)his daughter but Third Echelon took Enrica out before she could escape with Sam.
I hate not having the light meter! 😠 I think I'm hidden, next thing you know I'm getting blasted on!
And some 3 years after this video Ubisoft FINALLY says they're actually working on a new game lol
Chaos Theory has always been my favorite. My brother and I spent countless hours in the co-op trying to climb on top of the rocket in the Silo mission to see if we could launch ourselves into orbit. And I spent probably twice as much time in the campaign playing mind games on all the bad guys 😂

@Josh Glover I've played one assassins creed game and four hitman games, I see hitman and assassins creed more as a hide in plain sight type of stealth but they're both still good games, but thanks for suggesting them though and I'll be sure to check out metal gear solid

I really like your video but dude you forgot to mention the soundtrack in Chaos Theory made by Amon Tobin. A masterpiece of a game soundtrack. It really added a lot to the game.
Couldn't agree more. You have to acknowledge someone with Tobin's musical imagination, it truly is a gift. How does he come up with these scores, I have no idea. But he's a genius.
Tobin also did the menu music and White House mission music in Conviction. It really stands out.

Chaos Theory's soundtrack is simply one of the best ever made. Amon Tobin's eerie, break-beat laden aggressive tracks fit the action well, and the stealth loops felt perfectly like spy material. Pandora tomorrow was the first stealth game I’ve ever played and it’s still one of my favorite genres to this day
It’s not perfect and is pretty unforgiving. But once you get used to it, it’s actually pretty good at times. And I personally prefer the voice acting for Lambert in this one.

That was the first one i got too. I think I was 11 maybe. It’s Teen rating helped me parents get it. As a kid I only ever could get to the 3rd level. I replayed it again 5 or 6 years ago and was unable to pass the train mission. It’s a tough game

Awesome video. Blacklist is my favorite, although I've played only Pandora Tomorrow apart from it. Runs great because it's a few years old, looks awesome with ReShade, and is really hard on max difficulty. Also, so much room for creativity. Love it.

That would be fantastic, I want that, but will probably will never get. As of now, splinter cell is in a pit of despair, I know Sam Fisher is in R6 but that does not add to his character ark so that doesn’t count. If Ubisoft would stop focusing of stupid ass packs and season passes and actually focus on what makes a game fun and replayable, we could get that.
Imagine a Spliter Cell 1 remake with the graphics of Blacklist, and a combination between the Chaos Theory and Blacklist controls

Give it a really good plot and make it play like Splinter Cell Blacklist (without Mark & Execute) and have non linear levels like Splinter Cell Chaos Theory.

What they should've done with the series, as Ironsides is getting older and can't do mocap or whatever, is to make Sam the new Lambert and have him mentor and command a new, younger splinter cell. Like they did with Dieter in Rainbow 6.

I love Sam as a character the way that he always wants to help people and how he’s ok with himself dying to save someone but will never let anyone who doesn’t have to die, die like how he stops to help brigs and when he was dying he yelled at brigs to keep going and ignore him
Splinter Cell: Conviction is exactly like Hitman Absolution. I LOVE them but they do not feel like they belong in their respective franchises and are the black sheep of their series.
You can add Thief 4 to that list.

I have played Chaos Theory so many times I can ghost through it. I call it a 200% stealth run because you can get 100% knocking out guards and I see that as a no-no. Best stealth game ever!

Useless fact of the day - "Axe" body spray is called "Lynx" in England. The copy rights of the product name "Axe" is already owned by another company in England so a different name had to be used in that country.
victortheripper In the original release, AXE had a lot of presence in the game. Billboards and such. Same with a mobile phone carrier that I think no longer exists. Their logo was something like a weird 4-pointed orange blob with a dot/head. AXE even had a neon sign perched a rooftop that you ziplined from to reach an adjacent building.

When I entered this video, I had Conviction as my favorite, but now I see that Chaos Theory it's far superior as a stealth game. But I still love Conviction, since it's the closest thing we ever got to a John Wick game, even though I understand that Conviction is not what people expect from a Splinter Cell game
I love Chaos Theory, easily my most favorite of the series. But I’ll be honest, Conviction is my second favorite, I really enjoyed the heck out of it. (Ubi Shanghai’s Pandora Tomorrow and Double Agent didn’t hit it for me really)
I adored Conviction and my best friend and I lost it at the co-op twist.

If you wanna real John Wick game check the first Watch_Dogs and Payday 2 with mods (it's the closest to John Wick simulator you will ever get, espesially with some skill builds and weapon mods + there is a link somewhere for a free pencil melee - enjoy).

Yeah, I think it peaked with chaos theory but I have a soft spot for conviction due to the personal nature of the story for sam. And having him move fast and light and do the panther style gameplay made sense with the narrative. I just wish it had returned to form after that.

I have Splinter Cell Conviction, but I only played like 2 missions because I bought it to play the multiplayer with a friend. We ended up just kicking every single person to death and not trying to be sneaky at all. I played Blacklist too and I liked it. It's a lot better when it's the only Splint Cell you've ever played lol
The thing I hated about blacklist was so many missions were during the daytime. I’m like why is Sam out in the daytime 😂 where is my darkness. I can’t shoot out the sun.
Conviction and Blacklist are great. Chaos Theory is in a league of it's own.
I still play Conviction religiously every year, I play the whole campaign in Realist and the Co-op campaign with my childhood buddy as well and I have kept my final co-op mission victory streak for the past 10 years.

I loved Pandora tomorrow because of the variety of environments and atmospheric gameplay, the amazing ost theme was perfect for what splinter cell represented, I'll always remember the whole level in a moving train, the stunning dusk at Timor, the gorgeous cloudy dawn in Komodo, the Indonesian Jungle, the beautiful rainy streets of Jakarta..
Chaos theory didn't have that variety nor did I remember its main ost theme but holy cow the gameplay was so RICH, spot on with those details. The true peak of infiltration genre
I feel really bad for that one other, Splinter Cell agent, who got killed for doing his job.

@@samfisher9661 In the beginning of the game its not Splinter Cell, its Hisham Hamza. Splinter Cells are not only Fisher after the first game. After the successfulness of said project was proven, NSA decided to recruit some more.
But, the ones who know this fact are Fisher and his team. So, Splinter Cells other than Sam dont know that there are other Splinter Cell.
The agent whom Fisher killed was one of them. They were given a mission to burn Fisher off and kill everyone from the JBA, but since Fisher already killed everyone (Except the girl) he managed to shoot the girl only.

Let him face his most dangerous and compelling villain yet. Then, when the job is done, and he's realised he's too old for this shit, we see him sit down on a gorgeous, sunset beach in his Hawaiian shirt... Before we realise as he looks over his shoulder, it's the same place from pandora tomorrow. Just renovated and modernised. I don't want him to just kill some dude and roll to credits. Like in ghost recon, he's the last stealth hero left in gaming, and we need to give him the biggest sendoff of all time, as well as respecting and remembering the stealth action genre of the past.

@@lionelhutz3142 No we're not. The agility and manoeuvrability of the player character makes for some slick and satisfying gameplay despite the age of Sam Fisher. I don't care if his fictional age is 100. I'm willing to suspend some disbelief in a video game as long as the gameplay itself is good.
@Greig91 Some older people are in very good shape. If some 50 somethings can run marathons, it's not too unbelievable for Sam to be as athletic as he is.
I just hope splinter cell returns to its stealth based gameplay of chaos theory.

Highest difficulty and without marked executes = HELLA FUN.
Conviction was absolute great if you didnt play with markers. The Level design was on of the bests if not the best.
Blacklist was very fun aswell but not the same as the ones before imo. I still enjoyed every SC and id play them again any time

I think blacklist did a great job giving the player the option for both. Of course, you could armor up, play on normal or lower and go guns blazing, but on realistic and perfectionist, its either insanely difficult or straight up the wrong option. I think the "modern" approach blacklist took can be improved on, for sure, but i think that direction is perfectly fine and just as good.

My favourite is Chaos Theory as well. The addition of the knife was unreal. Also, I thought Double agent had some of the best moments and mechanics (trust metre 360 version) IMO. Shanghai Hotel and parachute jump levels were awesome.

Great video. I have all the splinter cell games. I was mostly pissed when Sam's voice changed but I loved every game. Chaos theory was a total 10. I am currently playing through all the games now and experience all the nostalgia I could ever want. Blacklist was the best for fluidity, playstyle and versatility of character movement and options. Panther style is the way to go.
blacklist got solid co-op too. I got a friend, that we were close loooong time ago and we loved games. Now we dont talk much, but when he calls, i know its the time of a year to play some blacklist :D

Nice video and I completely agree with you about chaos theory even though I didn't play as much as you did. But there's one thing you didn't talk about in this game that is one of its best features and one of the most nostalgic things ever for me, the music by Amon Tobin.
