Buying Equipment You Don't Need

  • It's very easy to be tempted by the newest optic riser, pistol, rifle, or piece of equipment in the gun industry. While we all deserve to splurge once in a while, remember to be selective with your purchases and happy with what you have now!

Well spoken as always! I think a lot of the consumerism within the industry and community is a double edged sword- It’s a good thing for growth and innovation in some places, I think it’s also a detriment for the community in the sense that there is an overwhelming kind of gear-shame that a lot of people feel over their equipment as people go and flex their newest chest rig, plate carrier, rifle platform, etc… The most success I’ve had in keeping myself in line with the gear I buy while also splurging every now and again is some quality condition surplus (something I think everyone should start with, honestly)- Sure, it’s not highspeed or cool for the internet clout points, but it’s a good stepping stone to ‘earn’ your way to a treat like a new PC, rig, belt, rifle, or anything else you can think of.

Thanks for the comment! Well said and agreed that while there's a TON of goodness, there's some downsides - especially with the gear shaming. Good condition surplus is a great idea... I should have thought of that... that'd be a great way to get gear at a reasonable price!

Neat topic. You certainly could go long format on this and expand upon the idea. I think a gear planning video would be really cool content. I’ve collected funs (😂) for a long long time. More recently I’ve paired things back to only very high end platforms that fill specific roles. I regret not planning purchases better and having more support gear and equipment. It’s a lesson many ppl learn by going about it with impulse buying mentality.

Ahh bruh. I spent about 20k on ARs and optics in the past couple years. Its totally an addiction. I dont have that issue with my other guns but ARs its fun but expensive. Def impulsive for me. I got some cool builds though. None of that money was on a credit card though and Im satisfied where Im at now... I think. Nah I have more plans for next year, wanna do a Block 2 FSP and I want a good BCM Reece but I probably wont. My kids are grown so I finally have a little more spending money.

Oh man, I'm totally addicted too though haha. And yeah an FSP would be SICK... despite this video, I debate getting one pretty often haha. I'm wondering if the FSP ever heats up too much while shooting that it'll mess with your grip. I imagine not though since the FSP design was/is so damn popular. It's so aesthetic man. BCM is solid too!

What’s going on man so essentially, less is more in the gun community? Just trying to understand that I don’t need 5 pistols and two ars and shotgun to be prepared for shots scenario? I just need a little guidance ,4 yrs in the gun community

In my opinion I think as you keep buying more and more, you generally get less practice win each. Sticking with just a few gives you more of an opportunity to practice on them and get good! At least that’s what I think. It’s well within your right to get as many as you’d like, but just gotta remember to devote time to getting comfortable with each!

Do AK's interest you? Would love to see a video of your thoughts on the platform, preferably an import over a domestic built one.

Oh man I really want one, but I don't have one yet! Was considering buying from either end of the spectrum - one of the PSA models or a splurge (very hypocritical given this video, I know) on an Arsenal SLR. If I ever get one, I'll definitely do a video!
