- Fish make tons of mistakes with flush draws. They either play EVERY flush draw aggressively or EVERY flush draw passively - never really dialing in their aggression correctly. So let's analyze multiple FD situations to see some common #poker mistakes new and fishy players make.
All of these hands were from my complete $1/$2 live poker #VLOG. Spots include everything from AK suited to QJs. Preflop situations include when to play these spots aggressively. Postflop spots range from nut flush draws to open ended straight flush draws. There's a little bit of everything in this video.

what do you do when u get scenario #1 like 10 times, never get premiums preflop, never flop a set and they suck out on you 4 days in a row. i turn to craps.

I actually like the fact that James left $10 behind at 22:12. It's a weird psychological trick but you want to avoid the dealer saying "ALL IN" which is like a Pavlov's dog whistle that can scare skiddish players.

Good explanations. I gotta be honest I hated that check reraise in to 4 players with a nearly nut draw. No fold equity and a suck position. Seemed like a promising call with a pot that had 4 potential customers if your hand became a monster.

The flush draw when you are suited in the hold and catch the two of the same suit on the flop that's a 30% chance or 33% chance of a flush. That's one of the highest probabilities in poker hands and it's worth playing aggressively

Good video. I’m just wondering if in the second hand where you have AKh and you river a flush against a younger loose player who doesn’t like being bluffed, after he x-flop, x/c turn and x river, maybe you could have bet super small (10-15% pot) to induce a bluff from any of his busted straight draws (which there are many) or to get some value from his Ax type hands?
In your 2nd hand when you had the flush and probably the nut, I like to be tsmall to show the illusion of weakness. This often results in a huge bet from the fish which you can then raise further.
Why not a raise preflop with the A-7 suited hand? And any input on what frequency we should be calling/raising here from the solver?
I really disagree with your assessment of the hand. I think you're correct that BECAUSE you played the hand so passively firing a bluff on the river wasn't going to buy the pot. But... had you 3B preflop and raised on the flop... I believe a 1/2 PSB on the river buys it. I mean... the guy had an 8 kicker. There are a lot of hands in your range that have him beat.
Can u please make a video about chop pots when there is a split on the board. What's the math behind our decisions when we can only split or loose?
If you can only chop or lose, you are playing for half the pot. So your pot odds are [half of the middle pot, NOT including the bet] / [the bet]. So if the pot is $100 and opponent bets $50 you are getting 1:1 and need to be right (i.e. they are also playing the board) 50%+ of the time.
On the first hand, I didn't understand your explanation for not shoving the turn. You said that we're behind their calling range, which makes sense, but don't we generate a ton of fold equity + our flush draw equity at the end? Our 7 pair doesn't seem to have much show down value against his range, so I think the semi-bluff here makes more sense.
Oh, maybe we don't have so much fold equity since their range is practically just draws, top pair, over pairs and sets. And the 7 only helps the straight drawing part of the range. But our shove would stop the drawing combos since there aren't enough pot odds for most to call and would get weak top pair to fold maybe half the time. I guess it depends on how many draws we put into their range.
A shove won't get a fold too often in their range tbh
@audistant4011 I think their range has a lot of top pair weak kicker (or maybe I'm biased because that was his actual hand) so a shove would make a lot of those hands seriously consider folding.

Curious on the last hand - can you discuss what you would have done had your opponent raised when you bet the river? I know it depends on how much - but lets say a 1/2 - 3/4 pot size raise.
In the Aks hand I think you can raise a bit more than 3x pre. people will still call 5x
I don't mind the $10 left behind. I've found many tight players who fold to the all-in, but somehow convince themselves it must be a bluff when it is tiny bit less than all-in.
Flash draws plays are very very easy. This is how it works: every time you build the pot big, the flash will NOT complete. Every time you play slow, it will complete. Easy...
In the last hand with the 6 high flush, I would be checking the turn to give myself the best chance of getting a straight flush.

Find our own style and roll with it. Do not take courses man. Use that money to buy in table games. Because sitting at table; you will think to much on what your coach would do. Go by your gut. Buying a online subscription will get your mathematician skills up; and play tourist games in Vegas for cheap training. And never drink alcohol at the table while playing if your wanting a win.
A way I have learned. 80% of hands are a fold, 20% are a play. Out of a 100 hands I play 20. And ten hands I am playing heavy after flop to grab value.
And sometimes I play deuces like aces; meaning I go all in right off the deal. I have learned that I make trips enormous amount of time on the flop with pair of 2’s. 🎉
In the second hand you bet small on turn and overbet the river 1.3x and the villain quickly folds.
How about overbet the turn and half pot or Jam river? More likely to have huge bet called with a card to come - you already have top/top. Seems like it’s easier to get value in earlier streets.
Why was the first hand not turned into a bluff on the river? What would you have done differently with no pair and just the draw?

That $115 raise on 00:14:50 was a mistake
I like flatting with qj 5 way pot, ur cutting all ur implied odd when u force the big stacks out, call the 25 the raiser only had about $20 left so if u hit the turn u can check raise and if u miss ur getting great pot odds to peal a $20 river card.
I like a 3 bet with AKdd pre, but if you have a read I think a call is okay. That 882 two diamond flop needs to be a check raise though. First and foremost, you are straight up ahead of 99-QQ if that 8s is a non board pairing card. In this case you are flipping, but that does not change much when you take an aggressive line leveraging fold equity. You have all 8x in range and, if you are going with your preflop reading, he does not have any 8s. You can put literally any hand in a tough spot and get better to fold if you X/R here. I hate donking turns because it turns your hand face up. Lucky your opponent stationed you, still don't think it was an optimal line.
Don't know if I fully agree with calling 30 flop on first hand. Nut flush draw completes ~42% of the time with two cards to come depending what others are holding, you would need to get folds just 9% of the time to be profitable. I'm raising nut flush draws about 80% of the time to stay balanced. In fact, you WANT over pairs to call, doesn't matter what they have you only win when your flush completes.
You bet for fold equity and to build the pot in case you win. Your ev is highest on the flop because you have two chances left to hit the flush… so a bet on the flop adds money to the pot in case you win, and might chase out someone with an ace or players looking for a cheap turn to see if the straight hits. Don’t just consider the play on this street but the fact you’re in position is a great reason to reraise. If the other players call then on the turn you’ve built the pot, and now there is a good chance the ep opener will check. Depending on the turn you can then bet or check back yourself. I think building the pot in case you hit, driving out aces or lower pairs, and gaining the betting lead is a good reason to consider reraising, especially multi-way. But I like checking as well

Bruh, listen. In a 1-2 live game, you should not be remotely worried about "balance". You should focus on maximum exploitation and extracting every dollar out of the terrible players at that level.

You should go back to each street and consider the reraise and raise on the river… a 9 would call their bets along with raise the river and could definitely get a j to fold. You’re talking a lot about semi bluffs and value bets etc. and I think you’d benefit from reading some Janda or Acevedo. Specifically Janda helps break down why we bet and leaves behind semi bluffing and all that, and instead focuses on betting to build the pot in case we win (and that doesn’t mean potting it every time, rather having a bet range of 30%, 70%, pots, and over bets, and also betting to fold out better hands. Reraising the flop sells the story of a range that has something and you can look for an opportunity to bet if the flush misses… plus you gain the betting lead for the turn. He wouldn’t have raised the turn with top pair there, you could have checked or raised which he might fold but likely not, but then when the nine comes that’s your card to represent trips. And most people think they pn,y have bad luck, don’t work through the hand, and would fold… just because you have some equity on the river, doesn’t mean you should always go to showdown… especially if it’s unlikely your equity is ever good.

I thought this was p bad too. An then saying 15 was a bad bet an 20 so they would fold is even worse. Why would u wanna make them fold with top pair top kicker an the nut draw. U lose all value by wanting folds all around an checking the flop was horrendous.

I’ve only been called a fish once in a year of playing and it was by the biggest fish at the table. He played every hand and shoved every turn when he had a pair. It was pretty disturbing until I took his entire stack
This is my favorite player type. If nobody else is in the hand, call down with any top pair (or wider if necessary) and you crush their range (and soul). Seat change to their immediate RIGHT if you can. That gives you position on everyone else when they make their spewy plays. If you act first, lead into them for a small bet to provoke a shove and everyone has to worry about you coming over the top before calling the fish.
The correct response: "Yeah, I'm pretty bad. I just play for fun. I should have checked my horoscope to see if I am lucky this week."
Raise to $6 thin the field? In Michigan standard straddle in a $1-$2 game is $10 average open raise $12-$15 also here all post flop bets must be in increments of $5 so if you tried to bet $11 the dealer would force you to make it at least $15. Our buy in here is also $400 in most casinos and card rooms meaning our $1-$2 games play more like a $2-$5 game.
Where are these casinos where a $6 raise at 1/2 gets it done? Standard open up near me is $15 and you're getting 3-4 callers still.

The bottom line is you have to adjust your play according to what kind of opponents you are facing. In poker I don't like to use words like "ALWAYS" or "NEVER". No two players will play each hand exactly the same. Playing draws aggressively can be lucrative but it can also be costly.

These raise sizes are definitely not Texas! Even in a 1/2 game, 15 minimum nearly every time. Best action anywhere!
Not 3 betting with AK especially out of position is an absolute sin. Not c betting with a donk bet i dont get either. You have so many advantages to take the lead there.

That said, if I put in the amount of time and effort learning that you clearly have, and my regular game consisted of regular $6 opens, I'd move. Why play in these games? Does nothing bigger run in your local place?

I really don't like the squeeze at 13:25. You have a bet, 3 bet, cold call and you want to 4 bet? Yes, it certainly looks strong and is sure to get the weaker hands to fold. But when somebody 3 bets on a board like this it's a either a set or, weakest, an overpair and it usually means he's ready to ship it. At that point even spiking a queen or Jack might not put you ahead. At $2/$5 I'd be a fan of this play, but at $1/$2 they're just too sticky and value heavy. I'd prefer a crying call or, even better, folding and waiting for a better spot.

On that first hand, I regularly get players to fold top pair on the turn with a big draw. Everyone is afraid of a set. I'd rather take that money right now then hope for a river to get more.

AK ❤️’ was played terribly, the QJ could’ve gotten the 9x to fold! A7 ♦️’s hand would’ve worked for a nice bet on the turn you win there too. You lost 2 out 3 hands you would’ve won had you played them correctly. You have massive equity drawing to the nuts all 3 hands. I want to play HU for piles of cash with you! 😂😂😂😂
I don't agree with the QJs overplay multiway. If you are going to do that, at least have the nut flush draw.
You refer a lot to player tendencies as a justification for decisions that you make, and I do think in marginal situations that is part of the equation but isn't it better to stick with the optimal lines compared to relying on reads and tendencies to make your decisions? I don't know how to properly balance when constantly trying to attack a player's tendencies. Do you think exploit play is more profitable than GTO?
Put negreanu next to a bunch of fish and tell them who he is. How do you think they will play? Exploit is statistically better. Put him next to 5 people that know him? different story.... every table requires a different read

Hm. Not sure if I agree. I play more aggressively with flush draws and AK (tight opponents fold TT-QQ vs 3b or later and that’s a win when we’re opp I think). Just not sure. My win rate in 1/2 and 1/3 is 11bb in each per hour (over 3000 hrs sample size). I wonder what’s yours. Maybe I’m missing value and should play less aggro. Being serious here, that’s why I watch your vlogs to see what I do incorrectly.

I’m rewatching this video from a while ago and I know you’re a good player but that first hand was played terrible you have a bunch of equity if he does call you he never calling a bet when the flush gets there very easy bluff spot cause he probably fold to a check raise on the turn or river
I see these mistakes in LIMIT Hold'em; which blows my mind that some players will raise their draws in a game where it will only cost their opponent one more bet to call-at that point you are pretty much inviting them to call. The reason I make money in that game is precisely because I do not get aggressive unless I know I am ahead.
Mathematically ahead is the key to winning at limit.

In $1-$2 u need to raise to $15 and you'll STILL get 3 callers lol
He said at some tables it gets the job done, 1-2 callers, some tables it doesn't n u have to adjust accordingly. If ur as poker savvy as u claim, id assume u know more then I, yet I've played at tight $1/2 tables, typically day time or early week nights, run into a lot OMCs. Personally if that's the case I put in for a table change as there's never enough action to beat the rake and stealing blinds, even that easy doesn't add up to much. Fyi he was UTG which is the tightest range spot so ur not getting those 9-4 off, 3-5 off middle position to fold, maybe 1 late position and 1 blind- again depends on the table as he says. How often do u get AA raise to $10-12 n get no callers? It happens. Play more like not full table n you'll notice smaller things

Look closely u can see only 2 sets of hole cards were mucked. Definitely playing 7 handed, 1 being urself u might get 4 limps n 2 folds, $6 on full table typically gets 3-4 calls bc that's 1/3 the field. 4 out of 7 calls of $6 is about 60%
You should never go 5 ways to a flop with a7 suited.

I mean it's probably a matter of opportunity cost. Could be playing much higher stakes but dropped to 1/2 to create content that's more pertinent to the average viewer.

I always seem to build up a stack then blow it on an all in lol like free online poker i tried studying for almost a year but Americas cardroom got my crypto that i sent wrong but wouldnt credit it to my account and i quit the game..

Am I the only one who hated how he played the QsJs hand? Just don't see the reason to ever raise there.
Isolate the small stack and end all action, the money goes in on the turn most of the time anyway
@Dayve Stewert we raise to deny equity. The short stacks are pot committed so we only have fold equity against the larger stacks. Why would we want to get folds from the larger stacks? They are unlikely to bluff on later streets into what would be a dry side pot. Flat calling allows you to play perfectly, while keeping the door open for implied odds from the larger stacks. Raising to fold out the larger stacks doesn't accomplish anything from my perspective.
