What’s funny is that Avengers EMH gave a similar arc to Black Panther in 1.3 episodes (the prologue was attached to a 3 in 1 story connected to Ant Man & Wasp), which has a few differences to this film that makes that version make more sense compared to this 2 hour film. The first major change was that T'Chaka was shown supporting the traditions of Trial by Combat, as he's shown willingly taking on Man Ape's challenge and proves he can hold the title himself by overpowering him in their duel. The only reason he loses is because Claw was hired to discreetly sabotage him with a concentrated screech (that was indicated nobody else could hear) thus allowing Man Ape to win the throne and exploit the Vibranium mines with organisations like HYDRA. This gives solid justification for why this law had yet to be abolished until this point in time while giving motive for T'Challa to want to take the throne back. The second major change is that T'Challa was scouting out help from the Avengers to aid him in retaking Wakanda unlike the film where it was internal, with the easy justification why it isn't immediate is because the Avengers have been around for a month at most when he formally gets their assistance. While it was later showcased that he was merely using them as a diversion to get to the throne, he does eventually see that collaborating with them gave more benefit to the Wakanda compared to acting independently, thanks to them stopping Sound (Claw getting powered up by Wakandan mines, because comics) from causing a crisis Wakanda couldn’t have stopped alone, which in turn encourages him to join them as full time members. This show even demonstrates that Wakandan security was able to get past the like of Stark's Cloaking devices, and easily took down a their Quinjet, giving a reason as to why almost nobody has broken into their territory without being snuck in like Claw. I'll admit that’s it's not perfect, as it did treat both Man Ape and Claw as one note antagonists who simply wished to exploit Wakanda for Power, along with it not being explained how T'Challa got from Wakanda to New York (disregarding that the Fantastic 4 were also a public team present at this time), but it’s still a pretty solid take for the episode that overshadows this film easily.
yeah, and that whole point is just stupid. it was clearly on instinct and t'chaka doesn't even realize he's done it till it was too late. like with everyone else he fights, it's likely just disarm, kill, move on to the next
Weird thing from the movie was when I saw Nakia in the first scene. I was confused. Because the Nakia I read from the comics was an over jealous, obsessed, bat-$hit crazy, stalker villain who wanted T’challa all too her self by trying to kill every woman in T’challa’s life.
I have a serious love hate relationship with the first Black Panther where I kind of love and appreciate it for its cultural significance and certain themes and messages it sends but hate some of the execution, pacing, scenes that were deleted, and special effects/CGI along with the direction of the film. I have watched the film at least 6 or 7 times now and continue to watch clips of the film on TH-cam ALL the time. I personally feel that Ryan Coogler should have had someone work extensively on improving the script a little bit to make T’Challa shine more and an assistant director to help him out because the action in this movie is some of the worst I have ever seen. If someone says this is their least favorite marvel movie I completely understand even though it ultimately hurts me when they say so, ….. which makes it that much more painful 😢. In all honesty the sequel is superior but the thing that pains me the most is that OG T’Challa isn’t in it and we will never see him again
Black Panther was a huge disappointment for me when it first came out. I had loved him and Civil War, and I was interested to see where they take him and but in reality, they water down his character in his own movie, and it had too many plot holes.
The thung about black panther in civilwar,he went thrue the same characters arc as killmonger did in black panther movie. The différence is at the end,t'challa decided to not let himself get consume by vengeance & anger compared to killmonger who was consume by it. In black panther movie,t'cjalla was a bit more wiser than in civil war(which happened a week ago)
23:56 Maybe because he simply didn’t have any of those medical tools with him. The only person I can see having them is Shuri at that time, but T’challa was busy fighting killmonger and his army, giving him very little time to even find them.
I love the movie but I agree with everything in this video. I feel like the behind the scenes decisions with Marvel also affected the story and quality. Kevin was taking a risk but at the same time should have trusted the writers to make a good story so long as it’s consistent with Civil War and Avengers 2 Chadwick, Michael B Jordan and Andy Serkis carried that movie imo
I love Avengers: EMH cartoon show's Black Panther. He feels like freakin Batman. Combat skills, badassery and intelligence. The problem with the MCU is that it left him only the combat skills, and moved the other two traits to Okoye and Shuri respectively. It feels like the true Black Panther is there only if you put the three of them together.
Usually ppl don't ask before they try to save someone. The usual natural progression is someone tres to help then are refused. The fact that black panther takes him up the elevator, share a sunset and have small talk before the question of saving killmongers life comes up is a somewhat weird series of events.
As a lover of this movie, I will say that you were spitting. These are problems that I glossed over over when watching the movie. And I admit that they do conflict with other Movies in MCU. It does work a lot better in my opinion as a stand alone movie.
Black panther is not smart and domineering in his own movie. Sad. He was better in civil war. Dude was raised on combat but for bested by a dude with military training
My problems with it is how they took away T’challa’s intelligence and give to shuri. T’challa IQ Level is up their with the likes of Tony Stark and Reed Richards. I also didn’t like how he needed help from others. Not saying he doesn’t need side characters but T’challa can handle things by him self in his own storylines most of the time.
I just can’t get over how the alleged most advanced country in the world doesn’t have automated tanks or air They literally send out soldiers without full body armor
@@sgtroach1510 The soldiers did not have full armor body suits and I saw no tanks There were no tanks not just in this movie but also Infinity War and Wakanda Forever. They did have a rhino at one point
I think the movie also doesn’t work because of T’challa. He is basically sidelined in his own movie by his villains and his side characters. T’challa in the comics is one of the smartest characters in the marvel universe and one of the best hand to hand fighters in the marvel universe. Also his personality in civil war of being a cold blooded and ruthless character made a lot of fans be interested in him. You can even say Civil War was his actual origin. Captain America: Civil war movie gave T’challa an arc. The Black panther movie itself just makes T’challa feel bland and replaceable.
@@c.thepeace3849 if you consider activists and woke panderers as "most people", then sure. Otherwise...no. No they did not. Shuri was not able to carry that movie.
@@iraford5788 If I have to be in the minority to recognize that movie for the boring and forgettable dumpster fire that it was...well...at least I have people like The Critical Drinker to keep me company.
I always figured that the reason T'Chaka held the throne when he got up in age, was because people (even M'Baku's tribe) respected/revered him too much to challenge him as an old man, so T'Chaka passed it down to T'Challa. We see the consideration and patience M'Baku had to reveal that T'Challa was still alive, instead of hastily taking the herb for himself. So it's quite likely this is the case...OR T'Challa was the only person that came to challenge T'Chaka, wanting to "earn" the throne the right way--like in many of the comics--and T'Chaka surrendered; however, T'Challa allowed his father to stay as the leader, due to his expertise and wisdom. The first reason is the most likely.
Lowkey I’ve been saying this for years now, black panther is only beloved because of the sound track and killmonger. It’s not bad it’s just not that good either.
the black panther in civil war and his own solo movie feel like two different characters, the ruso brothers knew how to deal with this character. look at him in infinity war, badass guy who is a leader and can kick ass, idk but marvel need to step up if they ever recast
I think another big problem with the movie is they were so obsessed with putting focus on the villain and the female side characters that they totally forgot to develop the main character. Because this film only cares about the politics (racism, sexism, colonialism, isolationism) that it forgets to be an actual movie and not just a statement.
Black panther did a lot of good for people and had a positive impact. Is it flawed? Yes. It did have its fate written in a sense where it’s great independently however it’s in the MCU and previous events did impact and shape how the movie is written. But I do love the movie still. Wakanda in the comics was healthy due to them trading vibranium however they did it in very small quantities but countries were paying top dollar for it so that’s how the countries wealth expanded.
He gave the beads to Shuri to update them so he didn’t have those specific beads. It would be fairly difficult for killmonger to kill claw with his arm cannon. The claws In his dad I’m pretty sure were just claw marks. The wakandans have vibranium in their clothing. The Dora spears don’t have that specific function if you look at blades.
I could do it with worse ones such as Avengers Endgame and No Way Home. I could also do it with something like Days of Future Past, which has very little problems in comparison and therefore holds up.
@@s.k.4289 to answer one of your points about the Avengers or Stark going to wakanda. the avengers were already being criticized for over reach. Wakanda appears to be a poor isolated african country. It would be an international political disaster of the optics of American imperialism. So the pre Thanos films got it right.
@@s.k.4289 I am talking pre civil war. when they had an easter egg of a pin point on a map of a central African country that was clearly wakanda. come on dude keep up. none of your arguments make sense. you are arguing just to be arguing.
20:00 I agree with most of your points except for this one. Killmonger competing for the throne isn’t the same as someone like Thanos contesting T’Challa. Killmonger is Wakandan blood and also part of the Royal Family. He has a right to the throne and a right to complete against the Throne, and T’Challa refusing to do so would be dishonorable.
Yeah I get he is of royal blood. I probably could’ve explained this hypothetical better, but if someone like Thanos was of royal blood, regardless of their power or atrocities committed, they’d be allowed as a candidate for a king. On a world building level I don’t think that makes sense, and T’Challa would prioritize the safety of his country over giving Killmonger the chance to fight, especially since his crimes should make him a prisoner anyway, and physically fighting is only going to allow vengeance to consume him further.
here's a question? who is down in the vibranium mines? for every fancy technician making space age tech, you need 10,000 laborers in grinding toil. how do they choose? by family, is wakanda a caste system? and how do they have a massive well-trained military and why? who are they fighting that they are equal to literal 4 armed space shock troops chosen by thanos hisself. are they guarding the mines to keep the workers productive?
Also. The avengers knew about wakanda. Steve, Natasha and Sam obviously knew because thats where they took Bucky. But it was said in a book I believe it was called the Wakanda files or something to that affect that Tony got some vibranium from them which is what he used in his mark 50 suit. Which if you remember was quite a big jump from his previous mark 45-47.
About the explosion part of the video, the examples you used are quite different than taking a full explosive to fhe chest. The Hawkeye arrows were really small with not enough power to cause damage, the truck explosion you actually see him be qffected by the shockwave, and at the Vienna explosion, he survived but he was shown crawling to his father showing that he was indeed affected by that. Like i imagine the suite as a bulletproof vest, yes it stops the bullet but youre still feeling all of that kinetic energy on your body. Him nit getting up to chase after that tho i agree was kinda eh, he is super human so he couldve still give chase

As a Nigerian, the story is so... interesting? For a lot of reasons, for one, it's claims to be inspired by African cultures but doesn't even look at how African cultures have evolved over time till, its just like they slapped tidbits of things they found fun in African cultures and slapped it unto a "semi-fituristic" Africa just so they coulf feed African Americans craving for diversity which i know is important but let's be real, it did no service to the rest of the African diaspora and is really just surface level, like African cultures are really deeper than that but im not really surprised, I've noticed a decline in superhero (marvel/DC) movies world building in favour of flashy fights and cool superpowers. But asides that, it might just be racist, or at least a tribalistic eurocentric view of African cultures, like in wakanda (note: i only watched one black panther movie which was the one killmonger showed up and i lost interest but i did do a bit of online look on what was being said about the movie so i may be wrong so correct me if I'm wrong) but i did read about how each of the tribes have unique roles within keeping wakanda up and running i guess, and i know its helpful to simplify multi-ethnic regions with vast and diverse histories like African countries but it actually comes off distasteful when you realise it isnt far off from the hierarchical structures that were created by colonisers to encourage inter tribal conflicts and benefit them. The rwandan genocide literally has a factor of tribalism fueled by colonial power, same with the selection of WAFF soldiers in British colonised west Africa. Cause in reality a lot of African tribes held their autonomy as a single community not a part of a larger community, even in nigeria where im from, although we consider the term nigerian to be the amalgamation of all tribes, different regions are regarded with unique cultural autonomy that aren't in service to a greater state, I for example as an igbo, although Nigerian, wouldn't revere the ooni of ife, cause im not yoruba even though we are both Nigerian tribes but my culture and our way of life is distinct from theirs and wouldn't typically be of service to theirs. So in that same way, not only is black panther problematic, but its lazy world-building that hardly looks into the cultures its inspired from and can border on disrespectful just to score a few diversity points with African Americans who want to feel connected with their ancestry cause let's face it, asides African Americans or the west in general, that story isnt made for anyone else, talk less the African diaspora
Your explaining all this while offering few alternative ideas to make an entertaining experience. Im not saying that the things you are saying aren't true, as a lot of it is, but it's still a movie. So how do you recreate these scenes with all the realistic context you explained in so much detail and still create an entertaining experience and story? That's why a logical film isn't necessarily a good one, as some suspension of disbelief is required. And while i do believe there is a certain limit to that suspension of disbelief, you haven't offered enough explanation as to how they could bridge that gap. I mean no disrespect, but if you offer critique, also give good ideas about how to correct it as well. Because from my standpoint, this is just a rant.
Another example Russuo Brothers adapting characters including their lore accurately while still making sense in overall context, than other directors and writers. In comics (I'm not sure now) the role of kingship and BP role are separate. The former is only reserved for those of Royal blood, latter any challenge for that position. That was hinted too in Civil War (2016). BP film combined both positions which led to unnecessary logical lapse's in writing.
Funny how this is just a preview into the standard operating process for marvel, something gets introduced in the previous movie then the next project comes and rewrites it all without any regards for the world building. Only makes it worse if you have cool characters in the start

That scene was one of the best in the entire movie dawg lol. It’s entertaining to watch that’s why he didn’t use it 😂 this is why you make TH-cam videos and not movies. It’s a superhero action movie. It’s supposed to be nonsensical is certain ways, they shouldn’t always make the best decisions or else the plot wouldn’t exist lol. Characters are supposed to be flawed.
At First I thought is was a Great Mature Movie, Now after the Disaster that was Wakanda Forever and Rewatch the Movie as Time Passed, Yeah this Movie Aged Like Milk, this has so many Flaws in the Story and adding Too Many Characters instead of Focusing on T’Challa wasted its Potential for Exploring Black Panther Stories we will never See in Life Action Again.
Challenge Day creates a lot of issues if you stare at it long enough. But you have leave room for the movie to have it's own plot. There are a lot of African tribal elements in Black Panther that the movie wanted to channel. Is there an easier way to pick a leader? Sure. But the tradition dictated otherwise. I think there were years when T'Challa offered the challenge but no one accepted. If someone beat T'Challa then someone challenged the winner, then what? The point of the 1st challenge was to explain the rules and the system to the audience before Killmonger arrived. It also created an arc for M'baku. The killing of Zuri was ok b/c he interfered during the ritual combat--rules are rules. Now, the issue I do have is that T'Challa could have yielded/quit like M'Baku did and lived to fight/challenge Killmonger another day. Yielding prolly would've saved Zuri's life too since he only interfered b/c he thought KM was about to kill T'Challa. T'Challa taps out, and then if Killmonger killed him, then Okoye and the Doras could attack him and kill him immediately, especially since he didn't have the BP powers yet. To me, T'Challa chose "death" by not yielding when Killmonger picked him up in the air. He was presumed dead so the challenge was over. The greater good was more important than tradition; this was the takeaway. Now, as for T'Challa not healing KM, KM refused treatment. One of the most memorable lines that you may not be culturally aware to understand was when KM declared that death was preferable to slavery. He would rather die than be T'Challa's prisoner, death before dishonor. Think the scene in Amistad when the female slave fell overboard while holding a newborn baby that was born during the Middle Passage. Could she have survived the trip? Maybe. Could the baby? Highly unlikely. And what was the baby being born into? So in an act of self-determination, KM plunged the knife deeper and ended his life on his terms. A little cultural context might have view the movie in a different light. Please allow yourself room for this.
Challenge day final remark The candidate challengers are selected from the five main tribes therefore at most 5 combats to happen And still you don’t consider the preparation phase of a challenger Conclusion : what’s the relevance of this remark? Have you ever read the books???

Actually in Wakanda you are allowed to have champions that represent you. Hence the elders don't fight in Black panther. That's how it can be. Even in the comics.
That’s even worse, because as I explained that is direct acknowledgment that being the best fighter does not make you the best suited to lead, yet someone as bad as Killmonger can be crowned king solely for winning a fight.
@s.k.4289 Of course it is. I'm just addressing the "why not challenge T'chaka". In the comics it's also the Panther goddess "Bast" that chooses who is worthy. Winning the fight is just one thing the next is Bast deciding. If you fail she kills you. You right tho, it's very primitive for an advanced nation
You're picking apart the force field stuff, for what? they just added accurate storylines from the Comics, your argument is with Marvel. The comics always mentioned the illusion techniques of the Wakandan nation. However, All of the killmonger plot holes are valid though. He is a walking contradiction. Just there for eye ogling. the rest of you vid is pretty spot on. They only created the contrived misguided uncle in America storyline to validate MB Jordan's character's motivations.
how did wakanda conceal the existence before that hologram shield invented? its a country! and it existed long ago... much like i have a map that already marked the location of Japan, and not japan build a hologram, somehow everyone forget japan existence
I have a genuine question and this could be me REACHING. But is it possible that whoever wins the trial by combat has the option to choose as to whether they will be black panther or not? And taking up that mantle isthe most traditional aspect of that part of their culture?
I hate how they made T’challa a harmless friend towards outsiders (especially that scene with Ross when he put his hand on him) so they wouldn't feel threatened when comics T'challa doesn't play. He isn't second guessing his traditions or opening up Wakanda to the rest of the world and he isn't letting people in so easily. The guy is a no nonsense savage. He is not just an ally monarch from a neighbouring country. You better watch your manners and how you act when approaching Wakanda. You are at their mercy and thus don't need anything from you.

"You have a great facility for the obvious." Hank McCoy
Bring him in the lab then.
I didn't like how weak T’challa was without his suit and powers. With it he's just a guy who can't die.
Without it he's a decent fighter at best.
I love the movie but I agree with everything in this video. I feel like the behind the scenes decisions with Marvel also affected the story and quality. Kevin was taking a risk but at the same time should have trusted the writers to make a good story so long as it’s consistent with Civil War and Avengers 2
Chadwick, Michael B Jordan and Andy Serkis carried that movie imo
I love Avengers: EMH cartoon show's
Black Panther. He feels like freakin Batman.
Combat skills, badassery and intelligence. The problem with the MCU is that it left him only the combat skills, and moved the other two traits to Okoye and Shuri respectively.
It feels like the true Black Panther is there only if you put the three of them together.
He did not let killmonger die for no reason. Kilmonger chose to die.
Black Panther could’ve attempted to save him earlier but didn’t. Killmonger has no control over where he brings him either.

Bested by a Wakandan who had military training. You forget Eric Killmonger is Wakandan...by blood. It gives him an advantage.
I was litraly checking your Discord server and got a notification
Honestly, one point is that nothing that happened has any impact on the grander narrative as a whole.
Yeah, just part of world building but if Chadwick/BP didn't die, he would've been central in the current phase...
He always needed help to defeat killmonger

There were no tanks not just in this movie but also Infinity War and Wakanda Forever.
And the worst part is that even his replacement ended up bland and replaceable.

And the common culture being held hostage by ideology
the black panther in civil war and his own solo movie feel like two different characters, the ruso brothers knew how to deal with this character. look at him in infinity war, badass guy who is a leader and can kick ass, idk but marvel need to step up if they ever recast
All of the marvel movies have plot holes and plot armor but it’s a movie 🎥
I think another big problem with the movie is they were so obsessed with putting focus on the villain and the female side characters that they totally forgot to develop the main character. Because this film only cares about the politics (racism, sexism, colonialism, isolationism) that it forgets to be an actual movie and not just a statement.
The reason Killmonger didn't kill Claw earlier is probably because he's a psychopath and enjoys violence and killing people
i was fully ready to disagree but this video made me realize how little i actually pay attention to these movies
The way you pick apart Black Panther. You could do this on Any Si Fi project??
I could do it with worse ones such as Avengers Endgame and No Way Home. I could also do it with something like Days of Future Past, which has very little problems in comparison and therefore holds up.

I agree with most of your points except for this one.

Excellent incites. These kinds of movies require suspended disbelief, and NOT paying attention to the man behind the curtain.
If the man behind the curtain is too obvious in the showing, it’s worth talking about why.
Yeah that trial by combat thing is kinda weird especially considering the modern and technologically advanced era they live in.

The fact T'challa intellect was completely taken away in favor of his sister is the main reason why this movie is just disappointing.
Good video. However Black Panther, was the best comic movie.
If only we allowed trial by combat to decide who's President in America. Maybe than, we wouldn't have to put up with another 4 years of Biden or Trump
