I watched the entire 3 hours. The Facts are, Will lost control of his emotions, and didn't think twice about the consequences. And then afterwards he accepted an award and cried like a baby to condone his behavior. And then to finish off the night was smiling and laughing for the rest of the show. Will showed no class! Chris took the high road! Mad respect! #teamchrisrock

Chris did take the high road but Will wasn't out of control. He was very controlled physically, because it was a slap not a punch. Will was very much in control and so was Chris Rock. Leave it alone, Now Chris Knows. This wasn't TOXIC masculinity. Both of these black men were in controlled. Black people always maintain a sense of control. Dealing with racism made Blacks more controlled than any other Race.

Yes, Chris did take the high road and Will Smith was never out of control just tee off mostly because his wife was offended. Neither one of these men were out of control. It does give a pause for the cause. Will just came off of movie where a black man had to constantly stand up for his family. He was probably a bit still in character but neither one of them was out of control.

C’mon dude! Will Smith is part of the extremely privileged in Hollywood; Jada and Will’s pains are not more special than anyone else’s: getting ranked on at the Oscars is a given for everyone who attends it. Alopecia is a common condition; it isn’t cancer. Many less privileged people are suffering a lot more than Jada Pinkett and Will Smith. If they’re going to show up at the Oscars, buckle up and take the roast just like everyone else; it’s part of Oscar’s arsenal … It’s just embarrassing for Smith to collapsed to a terrible black man’s trope of using violence to settle a score.

That being said, the man had no idea, and definitely meant no disrespect. Anyone that saw the movie; knows GI Jane, was a hero of sorts, for overcoming odds. As an Aussie I don't know who these two guests are, but Dr Johnson was extremeley accurate in how he described Will Smith's actions. Toure's argument was purely emotional and he showed extreme bias towards the Smith's who he is obviously a big fan of.
Constantly using the word attacked to describe a lightweight joke and justify the response is nothing but nonsense. Comedians can punch up, down or sideways it is their prerogative and the collective audience get to judge whether we like it or not. Chris Rock has had a hugely successful career and it pains me to hear fu kwits like this dude try and dictate what can and can't be said or joked about just cause he doesn't like it.

So who isn't being protected exactly? And why does this protection have to come at the cost of a black man risking himself harm to do so. That's toxic.

Thank you, Dr. Johnson, for a cogent counter to all the emotion-laced statements that seek to justify Will Smith's action. What he did was the "considered act" of an out of control ego. Chris Rock told an awkward, silly joke referencing an outdated, but once a highly touted, iconic female movie character. It did not intentionally disparage Jada, nor Black womanhood, nor alopecia sufferers. Except in the minds of those who are determined to make this about "Jada" and "hair". Consider this: I find far more offensive the egregious assumption that Black women's psyche is so fragile when it comes to our hair that any perceived slight justifies a violent response. A true irony in this case is that Venus and Serena endured remarks and intentional ridicule about their hair throughout their tennis superstardom--yet King Richard never assaulted anyone for that reason. He instead taught them to make it a signature point of pride! Once again proving that Black women are made of much stronger substance than hair!! Will's attempt to justify his action by comparing himself (in his rambling speech) to the "a protective Richard Williams" was outrageously self-serving and narcissistic. You can love Will/hate Chris...love Chris/hate Will...or go back and forth. But you cannot contort this wrong act into a right. There is no purely credible and logical justification for Will Smith assaulting Chris Rock that in any way elevates Black people, Black womanhood or humanity at-large.

15:03 "attacking a specific woman's physical appearance". Dude. He said "she bald" and looks like Demi in GI Jane. Well, news flash, she bald and look like Demi in GI Jane. IS Jada really that insecure in her appearance that everything she is hinges on her hair? Is Will Smith so sceptical of his wife's ability to be strong in herself that he has to white knight for her at a black-tie event? Come on, man. It's not a random insult in a nightclub, it's a comedy bit at an awards show. Intent and context matter. They do. If every single joke Rock did that night was about Jada and her hair, a lot of people would say he crossed the line and he would likely have suffered professionally as a result. But even then, even then, it would've been bad comedy and not a personal attack. Comedians have an obligation to be funny, like authors or songwriters, they get to choose the material. Not the audience. You don't like it, that's fine, but it's an act, a show, a bit, it's not personal, and in no way necessitates an act of physical violence. There's no justification, in this context.

Dr. Jason is absolutely right the joke was harmless I could see if he deliberately attacked her alopecia but he didn’t he didn’t even say she was bald he said Jada we love you And the purpose I believe he might have said that first was to kinda lighting The mood to show what he was about to say wasn’t to harm anybody it would just be a joke which that’s all it was he wasn’t joking that she had a medical condition the joke was Jada was bald like Demi Moore in G.I. Jane which Demi Moore was also bald and beautiful and a hero in that movie, And if you think about it Jada would be the perfect person to play that part she’s bald and beautiful and also athletic she was good in the matrix and recently queen Latifah‘s the equalizer I get the joke it was about Jada being the next G.I. Jane that’s it nothing about her medical condition but as usual people take things out of context it was a harmless joke at the end of the day . And now someone caught what happened from another angle and the angle showed Jada also laughed at the joke if anything she should have took it as a compliment because Demi Moore’s character and that movie was no joke she broke a barrier for women being in the military Will reacted from emotions that could have been addressed in a better way and add another time but for everyone that’s trying to come down on Chris rock about the joke just didn’t get it and did not like the joke which is fine but don’t say his intent was to personally attack Jada and her medical condition which he didn’t know she had .

But, this is similar to that “but” when a person starts off praising another before “keeping it real.”
It’s just hilarious whenever people go to tell anyone what he/she just accept. When, that person was used as fodder. There probably wasn’t anyone in that room less relevant (career-wise) in that room than Jada, and she was only worth mentioning because she was there as Will’s wife.

I know she could possibly be bald due to chemo or alopecia. The fact that she can means I wouldn't make a comment on her hair. It's just too sensitive a topic. Jada has alway worn her hair short and if you didn’t follow the Smiths (like me) you had no idea she was going through something. Also it was combination of her army green dress and the hair. If she wears orange or yellow he probably doesn’t roast her.

Was it a cheap shot and a lame joke? Yes. Was it inconsiderate if Rock had known it was a health issue (which allegedly he didn't)? Of course, yes. Was it appropriate for Smith to storm up the stage and slap the living daylights out of a comedian doing their job (albeit could be viewed as poorly so) on live television that was broadcast to the whole planet, walk back to his seat nonchalantly and continue to use expletives for the sole purpose of intimidation? Absolutely no. Being privileged, successful, powerful, and wealthy does allow you to get away with a criminal offense, I guess.

What if it was a Woman comedian who made the joke? Would Smith be justified in slapping her for the joke? If not, then how come he would be able to compose himself not to hit a woman? Shouldn't his response be the same regardless? You all are bringing up the race hypothetical but ignoring the major issue. His response should be the same for a man as it would a woman!!! Debating only man to man is in itself toxic masculinity as if men have only one way to settle disputes (violence). The the root of the problem is that men tend to settle disputes physically/violently and not peacefully. If a male is willing to hit another man then they most likely would do the same for a woman. If a man is able to control it because it is a woman then he should be able to do so for a man. That simple
