Lexan Windshield Cut Fit & Install - Chop Top Rat Rod Truck

  • Let's cut to the chase then cut some lexan and make a windshield out of it for the chopped top Rat Rod Truck. Then later we can use that for a pattern for the glass shop to cut laminated glass. It's a split windshield so we make custom center section metal molding pieces to sandwich the center split together. It's a custom built truck so it deserves a custom windshield.
    Did you know you can use super glue to put together the rubber windshield seal after it's cut to size for a chopped top?
    Also we get a look at the whole truck ... it's awesome!

    Soapy water in a spray bottle helps with putting the rubber in the frame

    Next time you try a window install, lube the rubber with a soapy solution, you'll find that a bit easier.

      Seen them use a soapy spray bottle , but every professional have there own way of installation.

    The Windshield looks fantastic, it does look factory. So would the other windows, if you do them in Lexan Glass it would look amazing with all the windows in it and just make the side windows pull straps. Back window would take about a hour to put in,if you take your time. Next put some black wipers on it with a hand crank "awesome ". Keep up the great work and God Bless you and your family RAT ROD BOB, love you man .can't wait until your next video 🤔 🔥💯💪🏼👍👍🙏🙏✌😊✌

    McGuire's makes a mirror glaze product that the motorcycle is used on their lexan/Plexiglas. Removes the superficial scratches

      Similar to the McGuire's, Kit Scratch Out. I use the Scratch Out and now the McGuire's on acrylic (lexan) saxophone mouthpieces that I rework for customers. If you have some scratches, you can lightly sand with silicon carbide wet or dry paper, 800, then 1000, then 1200, finally 2000. Then polish with the plastic polish and voila!

    Great work Bob! However I think you will have a problem with the super glue on the rubber. I would use silicone or my favorite stuff Through the Roof, that stuff will stick and dry in the rain and it stays flexible!

    • @RatRodBobBuilds
      @RatRodBobBuilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      As you can see .. no problem with the super glue so far but if that time comes I'll have to stop doing that and do something different. By the way ... that super glue is not to stop leaks but to glue the rubber back together. Super glue is the only thing I could find to do that and still stretch the rubber seal around the glass. 3M weatherstrip glue didn't work ... silicone didn't work ... but super glue works like a champ.
      Should've already knew that because that's how you resize rubber orings .... super glue.
      As far as stopping leaks .... this ole Rat Rod has so many holes and cracks in it ... it's like a motorcycle ... drive it when the weather is nice or be prepared to get a wet a$$.

    • @saxmusicmail
      @saxmusicmail 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Super Glue is used in O-ring kits sold to make custom size O-rings. They sell the round rubber, you cut to size, glue it with the super glue. Look up the Permatex 00112 O-Ring Splicing Kit. If it works for O-rings, it should work fine for the windshield rubber.

    I've made a few windshields in my day. I worked at a place called opg which is Ohio plate glass. There no longer in business which sucks cause I could make anything and temper it as well. Anyway I still make double pane safety glass as long as its flat glass, I just need a pattern. Its really easy to do. I'm in love with this build Bob. My favorite is the falcon. Would really like to see you build the galaxy I think that's what it is. The black one. Looking forward to seeing more builds
