I'm only 5yrs younger than this car! In my youth I lusted after a "36 Ford 3 window coupe owned by an old lady in our small town in VT. I understand and admire your ambition for the conversion to the coupe. I'll be following along from my home in the Philippines.
You would have enjoyed knowing one of my customers from back in the 80s, who at one time had a Lincoln coupe and roadster for every year from 1932 - 46. I personally worked on his 1939 Lincoln Zephyr 2 door sedan when he brought it out of storage to use. I put a dual carb intake manifold on it for him and I even got to "test drive" it with him. The old V12s were extremely smooth, though not very powerful. Some of his cars had be converted to later V8s, Chrysler hemi, Corvette 327, early Ford Yblock 312, etc. He also collected Nash Metropolitans and left me one in his will. There were several parts cars and a garage bay full of parts that I couldn't take as I was moving out of state. The second floor of his barn was loaded with piles of Lincoln parts of all kinds. His name was Doc Barrows. He was a member of the Lincoln club of America. Great old gentleman with a truly unique collection of cars. Oh, I didn't mention that his daily driver was a 64 Studebaker Lark...
@@johngrepo9976 I don't know. I did meet a couple of his friends from the club, but being back in the 70s-80s I don't recall their names now. It will be interesting to see your progress on this project.
1977 everyday after school my friend and I went to his dads business. There we helped his dad and in the process learned how to restore a 39 FORD De Lux. The Lincoln Zephyr was our dream car. The 39 is still winning concours de’Elegance at car show’s. My friend has restored 4 Classic Mustangs and many more Fords and Chevy’s etc. Revamped and modernised 1 Mustang. It’s his hobby.
I'm stoked for you man, I can't wait till I see what you create with this baby. It should be fantastic creation when she's all said and done, I hope your starting right away. LOL I love the ole flat head v 12's their beautiful looking Engines. You scored with Norm being the guy who took care of this car over the years. His meticulous discipline in being organized and keeping as you said even the rusted old parts. Congrats...you deserve it, you've done all the hard work to get to where your at, I excited to come along on the journey with you.
To my knowledge I have never seen one of these, but around a third of the way through the video, I was beguiled! The image of the front end as it was on the (really nice) trailer was the bit that finally hooked me, yup! I was captivated by that gorgeous style - And what style it has! The seller clearly loved his car, and had accepted the reality that he was never going to be able to do it justice, and so he passed it on to the man whom would! Having seen your artistry with metal, there isn't anything that you can't do with this to make it just how you want, the seller recognised that too! I think it's in very good condition and is well worth your investment. How fortunate that we'll get to see you bring this car to life, I'm really happy for you that you got the car of your dreams, it's lucky to find itself in your hands. If car's could speak, this one would be pretty stoked at what lies ahead...
Thank you man I am so grateful to have the opportunity to get this car of my dreams. So for these circumstances to come about I am speechless. It’s always been one of my favourite cars but for the rarity and the price tag I figured it would be many years until I could afford one
Mad respect to the ol man, it took a lot for him to sell it, he did what a lot of ppl don’t do. Usually what happens after the owner passes away, the car get scrapped.
That’s exactly what he was worried about too! He didn’t have any kids or family left other than his older sister so he was concerned that the car would not get past to someone who would love it. I hope to take him for a cruise in it

Congratulations on a great find! My dad used to tell me stories about the Lincoln Zephyr he owned back in the late 40's-1950's...in Japan! Imagine trying to make it around the tiny streets of Yokohama in one of those! One of his favourite stories was about the tendency of those alloy heads to suddenly "lose" a spark plug, which would go flying up into the hood, making an egg-shaped bump...
Your excitement really comes out in this one. So cool he kept all those notes and had so many parts for it. I think it was a steal for that price! Will be watching!
Bloody awesome! I bought my wife a 1941 Lincoln Continental convertible (one of 400) a few years back. I am stoked that you are doing this Zephyr as a lot of what you are going to do is similar to what we want to do on my wife's Continental - including a 3-piece folding hardtop roof which stows into the boot space and some changes to the bodylines. You are such a metal magician I have no doubt that that car will be perfect thank you for all the shows that you show us and keep up beautiful good work
you found and purchased a gem my friend, super happy for you. I have watched a few Utube videos from the USA (LA, Calf) Beloes Customs, not sure of the spelling. He was building a 39 Zepher coupe in a couple of videos, a real lead sled custom by the boss. He has done more than one I am sure and had some spare parts hanging on the shop wall.chec it out. might have some measurements. Good luck .
Hello I found your channel a few days ago and looking back on your channel I found this one about the 1939 Zephyr. Our shop weeks ago received a 1939 Zephyr coupe from another shop. This is a full restoration back to original. It is all dismantled it was painted but we are going back to zero. While we have no extra parts what we do have and can share with you is "MATH" ! Our car is apart and I can take pictures and measure the whole car. You mentioned in your video about extending the doors and making the quarters to make it a coupe. We have a complete car and if you tell me what you need I can take pictures and take measurements for you. Adrian Killer Hot Rods Arlington, TX
I don’t normally love pre war cars but this is an exception. That engine ! The shape and rarity make it supercool! I applaud your plan to make it a 2 dr, it’s ambitious but so worth it in the end . I’m sure Matt from Irontrap Garage would love to see this too. Good luck with your project.
Nice car and I can relate since I helped my friend who is a purist and has a 39 Pontiac 4 door. The lines are cool too but, your car is cooler and looks very clean just like my friends rust free 39. It's a shame you want to cut it up but you have your dreams and it's your dream. What would be cooler and a bigger challenge since you have the perfect form is to model off your car, you make your own body and copy everything then make what you want. Good luck with your project you are very talented and lucky because you can tell by your smile. You look really happy on this find!
Thanks man. A 39 Pontiac is a beautiful car as well. I would love to build a car from scratch one day, but it would not be based off anything in particular. Cheers man! This is a dream car for me and I love what I do 👊🏼
Just found your channel and this the very first video iI have watched. I anticipate seeing you work your magic on it and thus have sub to the channel. Its great to see the enthusiasm you have within you for just working with metal and I cant wait to see your interpretation. Rarely does one get to see a metal guy get to build the car he has been dreaming of doing his whole life.
What a find! Don’t know where, but there are government sales where you can find aircraft hydraulic parts at pennies on the dollar. Used to go to the local guy “ Junky Gene “ and get a hydraulic line from a airplane that was probably $500 + new for $10. Got to be sources like that still. Looking forward to seeing you do your thing with this classic!
@@MakeItKustom there is something even more fun about the fact that you are just down the road from me in Maple ridge...I'm in Coquitlam. Wife and I owned a couple of houses in the ridge. Best of luck.
Ooooohhh nice... I almost bought a red 2 dr one for sale like 12 years ago in WhiteRock... When all the old & hot rod cars were allowed to park in that grass field down next to 'The Wag' down by Second Beach... It was a beaut...🪓🤠👍
Saw one at a farm estate sale in Iowa about 10 years ago. It was a 37 coupe, and went for 10k. The guy that won the bid was from Michigan. It was the most beautiful car I've ever seen!!!
Yea I should have bid higher even though it only came with a bill of sale. The farmer that had it had passed away, and had no family. He had purchased the car in the sixtes in Southern California. It was an old street rod with the V12 and original running gear. Hi had about a 10 inch white lightening bolt, hand painted on the front fenders just behind the front wheels. It was killer!!! I live in Iowa. How can I contact you privately about a 51 Hudson coupe that I may buy. I really think your very talented!!
I believe they produced some fibreglass Zephyr 3 Window Coupe bodies, so you might be able to source a fibreglass deck lid. If not, a 39,40 Coupe deck lid is another option. I remember I guy over here built a 39 Willys Gasser coupe out of a sedan and used a glass deck lid for the base.
Yes they definitely did! And they still do produce those bodies. There won’t be any fibreglass in this car but I appreciate the idea. I’m going to push myself to make everything from steel hand formed
First time viewer. You got a new subscriber. I have the kustom Lincoln bug too. 1941 zephyr 5 window. 1948 zephyr 5 window. 1956 premier four door. Mine are major projects to say the least. Will be keeping an eye on our progress!
A man here in Stillwater Minnesota used to have a body shop. He has a late 1930’s Lincoln Zephyr and it looks really good. His needed a new trunk floor and they are extremely hard piece to find. Lookup auction prices for 1930’s Lincoln Zephyr but sit down first as they can sell for much more than 1960’s muscle cars.
Yea I’m well aware of the prices and even more aware of how lucky I am to get this one in the shape it’s in. Some I’ve seen (convertibles) hit near 400k usd just crazy!
Nice find for your project! It would fit well with the 38 and 39 Zephyr coupes we're working on! Previous owner spent a lot on the 4 Door sedan. Looking forward to your progress.
A truly epic car about to get even better, I came here after seeing You beginning the "chop" with the help of Your friends. And regarding You getting the chance to realise Your dream I can only say that it seems to be KARMA :) Keep up the great work. Best regards.
My best friend in Fond du lac Wi is just finishing the restoration of a 39 Zephyr 4 door. He has found parts thru being a member of the , Lincoln Zephyr owners club. Parts are rare, but as I am sure you are aware, they are out there.
43 years ago my dad, brother and I were looking for a Ford project. The first sniff was a ‘29 Plymouth. Not quite right. Next up we went to check out a Lincoln Zepyhr coupe. As a 15 year old I knew that this was it. I was shocked at how tiny the pistons were, they looked like tomato paste cans. It was a project for sure. Dad walked away from it. I pouted for weeks. I was not happy that dad dragged home a ‘39 Ford sedan months later. I’ll never forget that Zephyr sitting in that bank barn. Never. I hope it found a good home.
@@MakeItKustom It was a ‘39 or a ‘40. Literally just facing the barn doors when they were opened. The car was green. The block had no heads and you could see the cylinders. It was magical. For me. My dad didn’t get it. I think about that car a lot. Sadly we would have been the wrong buyers. It deserved someone who could restore it to it’s proper glory!
My brother owned a 39 Ford back in the 60s he went to college and I was only 13 but I would drive it around a little bit before mom and dad got home from work. He sold it to a friend of his who’s brother I was best friends with. My friend sold it to someone and not telling me. I had asked him to keep it in the family and all he got was three $400 in 1970! Now that was a classic look.
Edsel Ford designed the front end , grille/headlight area , of the Zephyr . Edsel also designed the 1939 Ford and Mercury front end , that’s why they are so similar .
In the 70's there were a couple of articles in R&C magazine featuring Zephyr Coupes , Including one article showing a guys massive collection of parts in California. I was living in New Zealand at the time and although not many whole cars were left but the occasional engine would show up. A guy I knew had one in a model A Roadster....
Kickass Kustoms sent me, looked at 4 of your video's .....Very impressive!!!! Looking forward to you building your dream car. Go for it no matter what the purists say! I'm om board!
Glad to have ya on board. I love the controversy With this build. I knew there would be sad purist but there needs to be restored ones too just not by me haha
"Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin' if you don't stop drivin that Hot. Rod. Lincoln" That song *had* to be written about that V-12! Looking forward to this build.
Happy to see you got the car you wanted. It's gonna be a wicked car by the time you finish with it. Looking forward to watching the process. Another awesome video as usual 👍👍
Just found this channel, and it’s so awesome! I’ve got a 1939 Chevy pickup my grandfather left me, his dad bought it used in 41 at the local Chevrolet dealer. I plan to build it pretty soon but have no idea witch direction to go. I don’t wanna cut up a virgin 39 pickup. But I also don’t want to throw a v8 in a 39 pickup and call it done lol. I never liked hydraulics or low riders but that’s definitely growing on me. At this point I realize I just need to watch and learn some more ha. Awesome content though man! Watching from Georgia, USA
Right on Cody! You own my favourite track of all time. I’ve been dreaming of a 39 Chevrolet since I first saw one. The lines on that pick up our amazing the grill is perfect. I like them done more like a bomb. Low and all the extra chrome goodies

Congratulations mate, be careful consummating the marriage. I’ve only seen one ‘39 Lincoln Zephyr, it was in similar condition to yours, located in Sydney back in 1991. Gunna be a great project dude.
Looking forward for this project to start. I have 37 Hudson Terraplane and it's a 4 door. I'm probably going to keep it 4 door but I'm definitely going to look at how you will be chopping it, it will almost be identical. I keep going back and forth about it. By luck I snagged a hudson straight 8, throw that bad boy with 4 carb feed. I like that your keeping the old iron flathead 12.

Adrian! I will take you up on this! Thank you very much for the offer it will be very helpful when I’m ready🙏🙏🙏
glad i ran across this channel ,great work
Thanks so much for watching, John! Glad you found us!
Can't wait to see you do it all .😊😊
I don’t normally love pre war cars but this is an exception. That engine ! The shape and rarity make it supercool! I applaud your plan to make it a 2 dr, it’s ambitious but so worth it in the end . I’m sure Matt from Irontrap Garage would love to see this too. Good luck with your project.
Thanks Kevin! I'm really looking forward to this build. It will definitely test my skills as a builder!
Cheers man! This is a dream car for me and I love what I do 👊🏼
Can't wait to see it completed.
Me too man! I'm extremely stoked for this build!
Thanks Grant I hope to not disappoint! This is certainly a rare opportunity that I did not expect
CANT WAIT TO SEE HER!!
Buddy of mine had one of these with power hydraulic windows and a v12 flathead.
Nice car, good luck with the project!
Wow that’s really cool! Thank you so much
Car is going to look sick. Can wait to see your dream come together.
Thanks an I can’t wait either! Soon
Seen a new video on this and had to go back and see where it started! Cool car!
Can't wait to see how you do it.
Me too lol! I’m a little nervous
This is very exciting. Can't wait to see where it goes.
Thanks David! Me too
@@MakeItKustom there is something even more fun about the fact that you are just down the road from me in Maple ridge...I'm in Coquitlam.
Cool find can't wait to see what it looks like when you're done. I have a 33 Plymouth Coupe. 😎
Lucky you! I love those cars!
Saw one at a farm estate sale in Iowa about 10 years ago. It was a 37 coupe, and went for 10k. The guy that won the bid was from Michigan. It was the most beautiful car I've ever seen!!!
That’s a steel
Incredible styling man so slick
Awesome car and looking forward to watching progress of the build,
Thanks Phil I can’t wait to get on it!
First time viewer. You got a new subscriber. I have the kustom Lincoln bug too. 1941 zephyr 5 window. 1948 zephyr 5 window. 1956 premier four door. Mine are major projects to say the least. Will be keeping an eye on our progress!
Wicked man that’s quite the collection! I’ll give you my left kidney for the trunk lid 😆
Wow man that’s a lot of zephyrs!
Can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Me too I want to jump on it there’s so many projects I don’t know where to start lol
A truly epic car about to get even better, I came here after seeing You beginning the "chop" with the help of Your friends. And regarding You getting the chance to realise Your dream I can only say that it seems to be KARMA :)
Keep up the great work.
Best regards.
My best friend in Fond du lac Wi is just finishing the restoration of a 39 Zephyr 4 door. He has found parts thru being a member of the , Lincoln Zephyr owners club. Parts are rare, but as I am sure you are aware, they are out there.
Thanks to the club many cars have been restored!
This is going to be an awesome new project. Will be exciting to see it come alive. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks man, I'm stoked!!
That V12 flatty makes the car one rare puppy, I'm so jealous!
Yeah that’s the jewel in the jewellery box !
Halfass Kustoms sent me here and now I am a new subscriber.
Welcome to the channel! Glad to have ya!
Nice ride brother. Looking forward to the conversion...👍👊
Wow what a crazy story! Do you remember what it was? The year
@@MakeItKustom It was a ‘39 or a ‘40.
You got yourself a unicorn 🦄 there mate so rare and to be in such good condition can't wait to see the finished work,oh and I want your rat rod 😁😁
Man THAT'S INSANE!! I saw one of the sedans with a chopped top and a rake and it WAS awesome!!
Wicked man! There’s nothing like em!
Can't wait till you get started on the metal work. Stoked on this build.
Thanks man! Me too
My brother owned a 39 Ford back in the 60s he went to college and I was only 13 but I would drive it around a little bit before mom and dad got home from work. He sold it to a friend of his who’s brother I was best friends with. My friend sold it to someone and not telling me. I had asked him to keep it in the family and all he got was three $400 in 1970! Now that was a classic look.
Wow what a beautiful car 39 It’s crazy how much things cost these days versus back in the day
I think there’s one down the street! I’ve seen it on blocks and no windows. Wilbraham Ma
Edsel Ford designed the front end , grille/headlight area , of the Zephyr . Edsel also designed the 1939 Ford and Mercury front end , that’s why they are so similar .
The joy on your face says it all. Why do old cars do this to us I'll never know.
Haha thanks man! Old cars are just have so much style and are so classy and cool!
Looking forward to this build
Congratulations on finding you long life dream car 👏👏 This coach-built series is going to be awesome 👍👍😎👍👍
Thanks Joel! I'm really looking forward to this build
Make it the car of your dreams Carl. Congrats 😎
I got to say I am looking forward to this build.
Thanks man!! Me too
I cant wait to see it done. You can tell the old owner loved it. Good luck and keep making videos. Maybe a welding one. Your welds are great
Thanks man I appreciate it!
I know who Bill Hines is, its so cool that you do. This should be a great project. I can't wait to see it evolve.
Thanks man! I can't wait to get started!
"Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin' if you don't stop drivin that Hot. Rod. Lincoln"
That song *had* to be written about that V-12!
Looking forward to this build.
Love that’s song man ! I know every word 😂

Happy to see you got the car you wanted. It's gonna be a wicked car by the time you finish with it. Looking forward to watching the process.
Another awesome video as usual 👍👍
Thanks so much Andy I can’t wait to get on it!
Love that your going to keep the old school cool mechanicals. It always amazes me that uncool people remove the v12 to fit a sbc or LS.
Hey man! The V12 is one of the things I’m the most stoked on! How could anyone want to change that?!

@@MakeItKustom thanks for the reply! And I agree, the low look would look awesome. I just have allot of learning to do before I dive in haha. I dig your style of builds so I'm gonna keep watching and learning!
OMG that car is awesome! Can wait for you to get started!
You and me both!
That v 12 is the ultamite kool engine for a kustom, maybe we can hear it run in a future video. Great job.
Yes definitely! I'll make a video just on the fire up!
Sounds like a gangster build! Cool. My dad had a 37 terraplane
@@MakeItKustom awesome man, thanks for the vids tho, helping me along the way with my build. Keep up with the channel man stuff like this is so helpful, especially people like me getting into metal fab.
