Bob, my grandad took wax toilet seals back when they were 10 cents, but heated it up with boiled linseed oil, let cool, rubbed down his metal tools in his garage. I was about 10 and early 60’s now. In WW-II, an electrical engineer, he ran field generators that made 3 or 4 different voltages to operate the new gadget call RADAR for English troops who ran the radar. He said he learned it over there, but also has olive drab cans of WD 40, he used on relays, contacts, brushes and other parts. I miss him a bunch! Nice protection on the car, it always rains on days events are planned. Best of luck!

Yea my buddy is a an airplane guy and he introduced me to eBay way back in the day and his eBay ID was P-51. So I think of that when I look at it!

Years ago I used a detailing product sold through George Foreman and it was the best stuff I have ever used. Then they stopped selling it.
So, I experimented and came up with my own.
I take an old Windex spray bottle and add windshield washer fluid to about 3/4 full. Washer fluid won't hurt the paint. Then I add any spray furniture polish. I spray it into the bottle while counting to five. I try that on the car and check the shine. If it looks good, I spray a little more polish in and top off the bottle. I use a paper shop towel the first time through. This solution will even take off dirt and mud very well. Just let it soak in for a bit.
If I want a very nice shine, I go over it again with a clean cloth and the solution. It is surprising how fast this is and how good it looks. It takes less time than driving to the car wash.
This mix will also do wonders with any plastic on the car.

Looks gooood. Might want to wipe it down with a dry rag before it dries completely. Otherwise it’ll turn rubbery and sticky

I did the oil trick on my old Datsun pickup I built in the early 1980's . I lifted it 4 inches , cut the roof off and built a roll cage for support , made a soft top for it and painted it black and gold stripes . The paint came out bad as it was my first try so I used the same oil you did to rub on the truck . Looked great . I even added cruise control to it and it was a 4 speed manual shift . LOL That truck looks like a museum piece of rat rods to me Bob ! Fantastic build man and can't wait to see the next one .

When I was in the army, a 3 star general ordered a humvee from our motorpool . he ordered the humvee from our motorpool for a parade. He told us he wanted it to look good!! So, I got the idea to cover the whole thing in DOT 3 brake fluid. The General was pissed, he said "that is not what I ment!!"
