Too stiff!! I put a set of ECS coilovers on my My 335d. The height is perfect. The dampening is good. The problem is the springs are too stiff. (No preload on front or rear)
THIS IS HOW EVERY DIY VIDEO SHOULD BE .. HE COVERED EVERY SINGLE STEP....GREAT DIY!!! I'LL BE DOING THIS SOON ON MY E90...KEEP ON UPLOADING VIDEOS... I'M DEFINITLY SUBSCRIBING .
Yeah I was expecting a comment like that as I scrolled down...absolutely great DIY video. One thing i think it would be good to go over what to put back together as you are reassembling the front suspension.
All involved in this production should be very proud of it. Concise and matter of fact. Excellent throughout touching all bases. Illustrating and verbalizing all torque specs was a great inclusion. Thumbs waaaaay up. Bookmarked for sure.
I think the person that wrote the video also deserves a raise iv seen videos even from companies not state torque And leaving me searching the internet or a bunch of work manuals for it,thanks for this video its gonna come in very handy soon 🤞🏻
Just installed my full coil over kit in my driveway with only floor jacks and hand tools, honestly I could have never done it without this vid, big thanks to ECS tuning! cant post pics on TH-cam unfortunately :(
What a fantastic, thorough explanation of coilover installation. My E90 goes in to the garage tomorrow for an install I will be referring to this video as they work on it ! ! ! to make sure they are doing it right !
+PR0J3CTXYZ Agreed it was very professionally done. It still surprises me when (many) people who I would expect to know call it dampening instead of damping. If your suspension is dampening anything, you probably have a blown shock/strut!
Helpful video thank you. But I will add when he says to not worry about the alignment when loosening the inner bolt on the rear lower control since you'll need an alignment anyways ignore that comment. Mark it and make sure you get it back into that position. I just loosened and re-tightened it only to extremely put the alignment out of whack. Out right dangerous driving on the wet free way later that day. Major rear steer going on. I then adjust it by just eyeballing and its better but still very out of alignment and now have a dsc malfunction. I plan to get it aligned of course but not after I drive it a bit and make minor height adjustments. Would have been a lot better to maintain the alignment I did have by simply marking those bolts positions.
Great video, great tips!!! I tackled my coilover installation this weekend and your video was extremely helpful, thank you for sharing!! Sometimes I wonder is those random shops actually take the time to torque the bolts to spec or just use the impact gun and call it a day!! :I
They use an impact and call it a day, working in a shop can be brutal tbh, everyone is working on commission, some techs straight up don't care and will use an impact on everything so they can flag hours, it's rough out there.
At 6:11, the closed caption quotes says '165 millimeters' and at 6:17, the video captions correctly show 165 Nm (Newton/meters) for the bolt torque setting.
Question: Can I go ahead and torque the strut nut before it is installed? Or is this something that is recommended be done after installation for fitment purposes? Thanks and excellent video, has been priceless in terms of knowledge and help it has provided!
Great video. Can you please tell me the size of the nuts and bolts on the rear control arm please? Specifically the ones that you are only to tighten when the suspension is loaded. Thanks!
Brilliant video and great advice however I have one question, if you set it all up then drive for a week while it settles then get an alignment don’t you risk uneven tyre wear?
wow I shouldve watched this before installing megans on my car, I had to push down on the rear rotors cuz i didnt think about the rear control arms like that. BTW i needed wheel spacers in the front so ALWAYS have them just in case cuz u will be rubbing and messing up the inside of the wheel (2 days did a number on mine)
Would it be necessary to replace the bolts that connect the contol arms to the (forward) subframe? I've taken the tension out for extra clearance on the strut/fender..
@@charleshang2842 you could have watched any brands' cheap ass Chinese coil over install video on a MKIV and applied the same process to the cheap ass Chinese FK's. Then made your own video to share with others and help them. However, if this was an actual question you would have been better off contacting ECS directly- Instead of posting your question on a TH-cam video that's installing ST coils on a BMW. It seems common sense isn't very common these days.
@@seanthao that 90 degrees is part of the torque spec according to bmw. A lot of torque specs require an specific additional degree of rotation after the foot pound torque figure
Toko H assuming you've already done it... but they're not the same. Bentley manual suggests a different number for our e90s (installing ST coils on my E90 330i today)
Hi, great video and sheds loads of light suspension . my 116d se I notice the the rear right gap between the tyre and wheel arch is smaller by 1 to 2 cm than the other wheels, so basically one side looks higher than the other. Would you know what might be causing this??
+Balle K.Lorin it does sit lower on the driver side around 1 cm I've seen this on a few cars , is that normal for the car to lower on the drivers side / right hand drive car
+awais shah i have read bmw documents that say the ride higth is a little lower on passanger side, and i have messured my own car E92 m-sport left hand drive, my left side is 5mm higher, so yes this is normal.

Thank you for the amazing tutorial! Could you please list us the tools needed for the job as well?
Too stiff!!
I put a set of ECS coilovers on my My 335d.
The height is perfect. The dampening is good.
The problem is the springs are too stiff. (No preload on front or rear)
It’s been a decade, and this is still one of the BEST TH-cam tutorials of all time.

he didn't mention he removed the strut brace. great vid nonetheless.
How close was this to the E90?
I'm putting B14 Coilovers on my 2010 335D next weekend.

I love how professional you guys are. Very rare to find people that take care and attention. Respect.
The best DYI video I've seen. All steps are clearly explained. Professionally done.. awesome job dude!!
Great video. Extremely professional quality of work. Give that dude a raise!
Agreed. He deserves a fat raise!!

Hell no, Not with that background music.
Seen a few videos doing this now, you're the only ones to not remove the tie rod or completely undo the control arm. easier the way you do it.
this video helped to save me 400 bucks to get my springs replaced. thanks so much for DIY video. Respect!
Best 335i Installation DIY on TH-cam. Thanks from Germany.
I remember doing this job thanks to this DIY when I started learning. Very easy to do with it.

So glad I found this video ! Thanks heaps ECS !
Glad it helped!
Great video, just ordered some Bilstein p14 from you guys,, hope my tinstall goes as smooth bas yours
Good luck!

Great video guys. Thank you for including torque specs. Well done.
Awesome ! Thanks !!
Great vid. Awesome play by play. But I have a none related question. Why the exhaust. Big brake upgrade. BOV. But stock air box?
excellent video. This video added so much clarity to my upcoming project.
SUBSCRIBED... I especially like that you actually make an effort to respond to viewer questions...
Thank you Mike with ECS Tuning
Well done. You didn't fly through and I actually learned something...
Thank you so much for making this video. I assume this will work for 128i
Great video guys! This helped me out so much while installing coilovers on my E92
The car is clean af, I have 2009 e93 335i dirty af 😂
If all mechanics could be has good as this guy!
Great video. Can you please tell me the size of the nuts and bolts on the rear control arm please? Specifically the ones that you are only to tighten when the suspension is loaded. Thanks!
cảm ơn bạn đã giới thiệu và hướng dẫn rất chi tiết,BMW Coilover installation
Love the detail work !
Fantastic video. Helped me immensely! Thanks!
Thank you for the great video, thumbs up. I wonder if ECS Tuning is Deutsche TUV approved.
Do you know if the F30 335i is roughly the same? Rumor is they are much more difficult. Very well done video btw, great job and just all around pro!
Is there a video for xi awd or would I basically be the same just need the xi coil overs is there any difference in installing?
awesome video this is how you roll
omg is that a brand new car or what?!!
The undercarriage of my 2006 bmw e91 is so freaking rusted that it looks like it was built in 1952
Brilliant video and great advice however I have one question, if you set it all up then drive for a week while it settles then get an alignment don’t you risk uneven tyre wear?
Any idea if the torque specs are the same for a 09 335i Xdrive? Great guide by the way, super informative!
I love that you don't show the use of your spring compressor adapter plates.
how much do you guys charge for coilover installation for F30 ?
Whats the purpose of the 90 degrees turning of the bolts for the control arms after you have torqued them down to factory specs?
So I don’t need to mess with the pre load for the rear? Just twist the collar rings and thats it?
Also, where can i find the torque wrench tools small enough to torque the 3 bolts of the strut under the hood?
Excellent video
Thanks for sharing! Very informative. =)
What was the 90 degrees after you torqued down already?? Extra tightening??
wow I shouldve watched this before installing megans on my car, I had to push down on the rear rotors cuz i didnt think about the rear control arms like that. Nice exhaust! Which brand and size pipes?
what wheels are those? they are sick
Fantastic video 👍🏼🤘🏻💯
Gold medal diy video🥇
where could I find that tall jack?
Hello, I ordered a ST coilover kit , for my 08’ BMW E88 and was wondering how to access rear strut
Where can I get that shirt for my shop? Thanks
very well done video, damn nice
Great Video , Love it !!!
Would it be necessary to replace the bolts that connect the contol arms to the (forward) subframe? I've taken the tension out for extra clearance on the strut/fender..
ECS, would you happen to have a specific video for installing the FK street line-coil over kit on a MKIV?
oh man, I wanted to order the FK's from your site but needed a DIY video..Thanks tho

that was an awesome video.
Hello, May i know the reason behind to rotate the bolts to 90° @16:09 after torquing them down.. Thanks..
This is what I'm wondering too. Any thoughts on it?
Like if he already torqued it, if he tightens it again to have the marker lines 90 degrees that wouldn't be to spec anymore
@@seanthao that 90 degrees is part of the torque spec according to bmw. A lot of torque specs require an specific additional degree of rotation after the foot pound torque figure
Hi,
What wheels are installed?
Muito Obrigado
Esta exelente o vosso Video
Obrigado
Excellent instructions 👍
excellent how to video. best ive seen!
Perfect job
is there any harm in installing the rear spring perch on the control arm? I've seen setups with the adjuster at the bottom.
On the e9x the lower spring perch is part of the subframe (and is quite aggressively shaped) so an adjustable lower perch wouldn't be optimal
Thanks a lot!! Great video!! :D
Hey! Does anybody know if the the tightening specs are same for all e92?
Great vid ! Tx !
so the alignment is needed for coilover installed, but what about the just springs installed? still need alignment or not?
Absolutely Zero it is always best to get alignment done even when changing springs as it can affect the camber etc.
YES ... if ride height changes geometry changes, period!
I have the issue of my shock going thru the top and I think it might be the bushings can someone help me?
is their anyway u can list all the wrench and socket sizes needed for this install please. It would be greatly appreciated. thank you
If i want a confortable ride in my BMW whitch suspension setting is best for the car
Bilstein b8 and eibach springs
What tool did he use to torque the strut nut
That would be a torque wrench
Bitcoin was $600 when this was made
11:43 no spacer on top of the strut mount?
Can you tell me what exhaust that is, looking for tip diameter. Thanks!
What the brand of the rims.
Is the process much different for an e82 135i? @ECS Tuning
Thanks
The overall process should be similar.
Awesome explanation mate. Could I use the same torque settings for 2005 e90 320i sedan? Thanks.
Toko H assuming you've already done it... but they're not the same. Bentley manual suggests a different number for our e90s (installing ST coils on my E90 330i today)
Nolan Norris what are the specs you used if you don’t mind telling?
Great video

where is that body shop?
What size wheels are those?
Would be nice if you had a list of tools needed...
How about he just comes over & does it for you the gives you $100?
is it the Same process for E60
06 525i
yes, essentially
👏👏👍 hi from Turkey 🇹🇷
Awesome useful video!
is 90 degree necessary after torque?
