The reason you struggled to get the front strut to clear under the fender - and the reason the knuckle didn't drop any further when you loosened the tension arm bolt to subframe - was because the brake line was completely tight and being stretched by trying to force it downwards... If you remove the caliper, so the brake line isn't limiting the movement, and unplug the wheel speed sensor, the knuckle can then drop down as far as you want. You'll want to loosen the control arm to subframe bolt as well to save that bush also being twisted - unless M3 LCA which have a spherical bearing.
Oh dude! That is neat. I gotta pre-assemble my shocks and springs. Not a big a deal. Watching your video to get an idea of what it takes to change out my beat up shocks/struts
Love the video but wanted feedback on the transition from koni sport yellow to the koni actives. I just bought the yellows but am not entirely happy and are considering selling the yellows for the actives but its hard to find someone who has had both until I stumbled upon your well made, well narrated and just well done video. Love to hear from you, thanks
Good video. As a suggestion for the front struts removal / install, you can attach a spring compressor to the coil and compress the spring an additional 1/2" or so. This makes it easier to swing the assembly in and out.
What s your return on experience for Koni Active Special. I have them on my E60. Way better than stock in terms of dampening and comfort while cruising but somehow buggy at lower speeds
I have done this job twice. Both times I had to unbolt the front tie rods to make enough room to get the front strut out. Are you sure no damage is being done to your front tie rod when you do the job like this? I don't have a shop manual so maybe I am just missing something here.
What I do to get a little extra room was turn the steering wheel away from the side I'm working on. Also, removing the tie rod would definitely help, but then it's just a pain to put the new strut in IMO. The service manual recommends removing the "wishbone" (lower control arm) first in order to remove the strut. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and for watching, Stoney!
Nice. Not much of a drop. I wound up going with dinan springs on my 335 xdrive. They had the least drop of any lowering springs. I was going to go with bc or fortune coilovers but they were on back order for several months at the time so being impatient I got the dinan springs and koni yellows. Awesome ride compared to the 100k stock struts
Do you need to upgrade anything else when putting coils on these cars such as control arms or bushings or anything of the sort? I have an x-drive model not sure if that matters
This 335 looks clean ! I need to do this upgrade on mine lol How much is this kit? Looking for a budget friendly option for new shocks . Might just source a junkyard
The kits are price individually, so you can try reaching out to the company. You can also get factory style struts for cheap on ebay if you need something to hold you over. Good luck, maybe you'll find some used sport shocks or coilovers at the junkyard!
Hello JDN , this is my ride , I didn't want to drastic of a drop , I have my family in it occasionally just wanted something a little bit lowered but nothing crazy , this was the right combination after searching.
Good video. I had already decided on the Koni special actives before seeing your vid. Would have liked to hear more about the ride performance at the end. I'm at 280,000 miles on my 335D and it has been a great car. Hope to have a like new bimmer after a little more work.
Installed today along with new bushings kit from ECS. Ride is amazing. Super smooth. The Koni Special actives made my 280k mile E90 ride like a new car.
Don’t remember exactly. ECS Tuning has them for around $570. Did the refresh kit from them too for another $120. Still happy with them. Just turned 306K miles this week.
Awesome… thanks for sharing. New to the channel 👊🏽. I’ll be doing my front and rear in the coming weeks as I jus put in an order with Cygnus - x1. Question… I’m all about replacing/upgrading parts while I’m in their. How difficult is it to upgrade/replace the rear subframe bushings and other parts? Where in FL are you at? Again, thanks for sharing 👊🏽
@@TheBimmerBarn you can make a tool from parts available from a hardware store....BUT it's still a JOB, took me about a month over winter to do them in my 335iS
What is your feedback about the suspension? I'm undecided between Bilstein B12 (B8 struts + eiback pro kit springs) or your kit. PS: I have a e90 335d too :D
If it spins, you'll need to put a vice grip on the shock in the wheel well to tighten it. it should grip up and you can tighten it the rest of the way. Hope that helps!

I need mine to sound like this, looks good with stock wheels and lowered. That’s next on my list plus the abc at some point
I have the same setup coming. I bought from strut. I hope I like the ride
Nice job! I am curious to know the name brand of the struts/shocks/coils? Thanks!
Thanks for sharing - in envy of your hydraulic lift ramps! What is the model?

You are uploading back to back everything I am planning to do this week..LOVE IT! Keep up the quality videos (:
Thanks I have to do it on mine 👌 have to find a kit in France 😅 take care
Can I get the link from where you bought it?!
Thank you for the video! This is my next upgrade for my e90

Thanks bro helped me a lot but what if I wanted comfortable suspension? What would you recommend?
Lowering springs and new oe struts if you want soft comfortable suspension!
6:50 .. that brake hose about to leave the chat like Drake ....
335D E90 is cool, but 330D E91 LCI Manual is just as capable and wagon increases cool level no doubt.
Capable but not nearly as fast. Don’t get me wrong. Launching out the hole that 330 torque gets it. But after 60mph. The n54 will pull considerably
Nice vid! Went with the exact same Konis along with M3 arms and OEM Sport Springs and I love it!
Very nice setup Chris. Have an amazing day too! Dutch regards, Nico.
Thanks Nico :) I mean it when I say it!

How comfortable do you feel the Active Koni shocks are ? Im thinking about getting them because I feel the stock sport suspension is too jarring.
Way better than stock.
I have them on my E60
The timing chain rattle is yikes, id be scared of that on my n47 lol

Definitely! And honestly there's no point in coilovers unless you need to go very low, or will be tracking the car. Thanks for watching Pugs 😎
@@TheBimmerBarn When you coilover, are you saying, new springs weren't necessary ? In retrospect of coarse.

Amazing how much easier the e46 and the f30ix are to do suspension on.
What is that jack that lift the car?? thtz nice
Those are Quickjacks, I have a full video on my channel!
Were the springs you removed sports suspension springs? I noticed the Eibach springs didn't lower the car much from it's original height.

The subframe bushings require a special tool and you must lower or completely remove the rear subframe to install. Sadly that's a job of its own! 😅
@@TheBimmerBarn thank you. I saw your video. I’ve done the front, and was wondering if the rear was just as bad 😄. Thanks again

You used to work at psi didn’t you? I was watching an old adamlz video and I think I saw you but I’m not sure. By the way this car sounds crazy.
Yeah! It was an experience building Adam's 335i, although I will say I'm not a huge fan of the single turbo turbo-lag. Thanks for watching brotha!

How did he get the window shades????
Factory option, very rare to find. A BIG flex for sure 💪

Anybody know if I can use e90 suspension on e92? Someone is selling coil overs for the e90 but I'm not sure if they fit on e92
You should be able to. Check the part numbers between the cars and see if they match just in case
-2cm and -3 cm ?
Shepherds always want to know what’s going on
How did you tighten the rear top bolt without it spinning? I tried with a impact but it’s spinning

Nice tractor 😂
How’s the ride quality with these anyone ?
its not a m sport

Slap those used konis on the e91!
You may have given me a good idea! It would lower it a bit to fit those 550i wheels better....
The sound of that dirty nasty diesel 💨 would drive me insane. Not 2 mention a little car sounding like that 🤢.
No, it’s NOT the way to do it
