I’m so sad to hear Clapton’s drunken rant from 1976. It’s shocking and inexcusable. All I can hope is that he has had a reckoning , will denounce that horrific behavior, and no longer dismiss it as the ‘drink talking.’

YES a white musician who plays blues can be a racist. I have run into quite a few, sadly. For someone like Clapton, he comes from a culture of British/ European colonial attitudes. An educated gentleman of such a culture might be expected to master music from such "primitive" people as Muddy, or speak Arabic as fluently as any "wog" or to cook Indian food properly... Learning arts from other cultures doesn't always mean cultural imperialism- but with his unrepentant attitude, Clapton's guitar might be akin to a tiger pelt hanging on Lord Salisbury's office wall.
