I bought the camera for two things, weddings as an extra for my work, and vacations obviously. It's just AWESOME. The Sony is hands down the best action camera out there.
i want sony to bring 4k 60 fps 130 mbit with their super cpu friendly codec. because i cant edit my freaking yi 4k plus videos without proxy converting. Yi dont ever bring an action cam again with this cpu hungry shity codec

I own Sony FDR X3000 since June 2018, but when I know GoPro hero7 is coming out, and I saw many reviewer make that camera looks awesome, especially the stabilization. And I'm waiting your REVIEW and only you for me without BS review, straight to the point, honest, and a fun review. Now no need to sell my X3000 or waiting for next X4000 maybe next year. If you can really, really be careful with it and dont mind the horrible form factor, the Sony x3000 is a fine camera. If you are more of an action person, the Sony x3000 is not going to last you and will annoy the crap out of you until it dies. Good luck with your decision.
@@KungPowEnterFist no, I don't mind with form factor, I choose this over GoPro, which is can do way more possible thing in X3000, put the CPL filter and other thing which is a bit impossible in GoPro. I hope this camera still strong forever so I can combine this with Sony X4000 or whatever Sony make the next X3000 generation.

Great review, I actually bought the Sony X3000 1 1/2 years ago because of your review. I make mountain biking videos and since I switched from the GoPro to the Sony my channel has grown so much. I have seen some recent comparisons between the GoPro 7 to the Sony X3000 and it was so obvious that the reviewers were biased. Thanks for your honest review.
@@Broxine no not because of brand, GoPro is way more popular, most people has never even heard of Sony Action Cams. My views increased because you can actually watch my videos now. When I used GoPros the footage was way too unstable, I kept on getting comments from everyone to get a gimbal.

WTG - always the best, most creative and entertaining reviews! The only significant missing aspect was a real world test of the microphones actual recording quality. Sadly, as other YT reviews have demonstrated, we still need the GP dongle for external mics to get higher quality audio.
I'm still using a Sony HDR-AS100V for my fireworks videos and it is already damn good in itself and this video makes me want to have the X3000 even more.
Makes one eager to know what sony have been doing for 2yrs. If they can keep 100mbs, get variable f-stop, have higher fps slowmo, maybe a larger rx0 sensor and improve the remote viewer. would set another standard.
@@Jammasamma on unit screen becomes less use in noisey places and out of view. On a motorcycle for instance. I've missed many a good session like that. Having the sony viewer on your wrist of handle bars is a great option. Special for quickly composing the shot.
The Sony x3000 is not a true action camera, and not really a Gopro competitor. People want it to be, but its not. OIS is inherently not durable. Durability in an action camera is required, not optional. EIS is inherently durable, which is why it is the better way to go for an action camera. Also, OIS unavoidably needs that horrible form factor that no action user wants, and a larger, deeper casing. Action cameras need to be small, and are better off with the Gopro form factor (which is why every knock camera copies Gopro and not Sony). That does not mean Sony should call it quits. There are plenty of non action users out there that simply dont need durability, smaller size, and the Gopro form factor, and would rather have higher bit rates, better stabilization, more features, etc., instead. Thats the market Sony should go after. I think they should increase the case size for a variety of reasons. Better OIS mechanism, larger battery for better battery life, and with more power available you can do more processing for better features and capabilities. From a pure capability standpoint, it would blow a Gopro away. And thats fine. Gopros need to stay smaller, lighter, simpler, rugged. You get in, you get the shot, you get out. No rush with the Sony, as you are very comfortable up on the bleachers anyway.
@@KungPowEnterFist Through personal experience. Crashing a lot on motocross, Adv riding ect the Sony has fantastic durability. Mine has dents and still works perfectly. And the form factor is more suitable to helmets or attaching parallel to structures than a cube. Maybe a personal preference. I started off using contours in early 2000, like that similar form factor. When the Sony came out with the FDR-X1000V nothing could compete stabilitywise minus a gimbal. While GoPro is the apple of the actioncam market with it's excellent marketing, because your following a crowd doesn't mean you buying a better product. As covered in the video how they don't even advertise the specs shows the individuals they are targeting with this.
I'll second Brians comment. Ive been using the x3000 for a while now and its hit the ground plenty of times. It has always worked perfectly and never let me down. It is an amazing camera and is by far the best action camera on the market. The form factor is better for the majority of situations. I dont understand why people keep going back to gopro... you are right Brian... they are the apple of action cams.... awesome marketing for an inferior product.

All compression is affected by the texture of the source material, but I have seen excellent results from HEVC as low as 60. It also depends on the implementation of the codec. So, it's not simple, as you say, but it isn't really a low bitrate, and of course clipping is another story.
A few comments. 1. My Hero7's touch screen sensitivity is noticeably better than that of my Hero5 or Hero6. 2. Even though I had verified "Wake on Voice" was turned off when I first powered up the camera, it still turned itself on while sitting on my desk when you said "GoPro Turn on". I had to go into the settings, turn it on (verified that it still claimed it was off), and then turn it off again to make sure it was really off. Folks might want to check this if they're seeing battery drain while the camera is supposed to be off. 3. Yes, it's still a Hero.. meaning, it randomly turns itself back on, a couple seconds after I tell it to turn off. It sometimes still locks up, usually right after I've finished a recording, requiring me to pull the battery to reset. 4. I find voice commands useful except for one serious annoyance. It doesn't care what single syllable word you put between "GoPro" and "Recording", and it just toggles between recording and not recording. So if you say "GoPro Start Recording" it starts recording and then say "GoPro Start Recording" again, it stops recording. This is annoying because sometimes when it's mounted on my helmet I don't always remember whether it's recording or not, and I'd like "start" to *always* start if it's not already, and do nothing if it is already. You can literally put any short word between "GoPro" and "Recording" though, and it just toggles back and forth. Also you can't use "GoPro Turn Off" if you happen to be in the playback mode.

Your really good explaining everything for me bro well done after this video i will go tomorrow and buy GoPro 7 .. I was about to buy second hand GoPro 4 silver in 260 $ with all extras from my friend but watching that stabilisation mode in GoPro 7 i fell in LOVE with GoPro 7 ;)

I'm with you. I was die hard gopro all the way back to the hero 2. GoPro has severely dropped off in quality control and customer service. And their nickel and dime business model just pisses me off beyond belief. $50 extra dollars to be able to connect an external microphone? Go Eff yourself, GoPro.

I was really looking forward to upgrading to GoPro 7 from my Sony x3000 because I like GoPros size and shape much more. But the low light on it is kinda bad. I use my camera everywhere on my holidays. That's a bad point I really have to be comfortable to accept to have all the (fixed) good points of the camera. The battery/storage problem is annoying but I'll accept if it's the price to pay. I really like the stabilisation and voice commands on this, very impressive. And it seems like it turns on faster now. Before GoPro turns on/record in 5 seconds compared to Sony's 2 second turn on/record. In your review I can see voice command turn on then record was 4 seconds long. I wonder how fast it can turn on and record with the one touch button feature. Thanks for your amazing thorough review as always.

Hello, great video comparison, i use GoPro 5 and I just returned my GoPro 7. I am an amature video-ograpgher, 🤪. I needed a camera with higher reliability, and easier to deal with In post. The file extension drove me to tears as my kick butt new cyber power desk top couldn’t play the dam Hcv file extension, and troublesome with the Corel Video program I was learning to use. I gave up on both the 7 and Corel. With my return credit I got the Sony FDR AX33 / AXP33, I See now this will not suit my needs and I should return it before it’s to late. It looks like the Stoney 3000 will be exactly what I need for my always in motion videos. I just need to see how the Sony 3000 does for panning. Thank you so much for this video! Subbed!
Great review. I like everything about GoPro 7 Black. What is missing from this great product, it would be nice with volume meters on the display to indicate the camera is picking up sound from internal microphones or a external microphone if you use that. Higher bitrate options and some other display tweaks. I am sure most of these things can be fixed with firmware updates.

You really have the best product test on TH-cam.
As Mark041 and others have noted, a bitrate of 80 in HEVC is excellent and the equivalent of ~160.
..but is it really? I don't think the comparison between h.264 and h.265 is that simple.
All compression is affected by the texture of the source material, but I have seen excellent results from HEVC as low as 60. It also depends on the implementation of the codec. So, it's not simple, as you say, but it isn't really a low bitrate, and of course clipping is another story.
The best review ever bro. Funny as hell and mad informative. You had this crazy looking gaze in your eyes when you were playing the guitar.
A few comments.
1. My Hero7's touch screen sensitivity is noticeably better than that of my Hero5 or Hero6.
2. Even though I had verified "Wake on Voice" was turned off when I first powered up the camera, it still turned itself on while sitting on my desk when you said "GoPro Turn on". I had to go into the settings, turn it on (verified that it still claimed it was off), and then turn it off again to make sure it was really off. Folks might want to check this if they're seeing battery drain while the camera is supposed to be off.
3. Yes, it's still a Hero.. meaning, it randomly turns itself back on, a couple seconds after I tell it to turn off. It sometimes still locks up, usually right after I've finished a recording, requiring me to pull the battery to reset.
4. I find voice commands useful except for one serious annoyance. It doesn't care what single syllable word you put between "GoPro" and "Recording", and it just toggles between recording and not recording. So if you say "GoPro Start Recording" it starts recording and then say "GoPro Start Recording" again, it stops recording.
This is annoying because sometimes when it's mounted on my helmet I don't always remember whether it's recording or not, and I'd like "start" to *always* start if it's not already, and do nothing if it is already. You can literally put any short word between "GoPro" and "Recording" though, and it just toggles back and forth.
Also you can't use "GoPro Turn Off" if you happen to be in the playback mode.
Because of this video...I have decided to buy Sony FDR X3000R in 2019 👍
And i think i made the right choice 😁😁
For me i sold my hero 5 and 7. Time to go for the fdrx3000

I'm with you. I was die hard gopro all the way back to the hero 2. GoPro has severely dropped off in quality control and customer service. And their nickel and dime business model just pisses me off beyond belief. $50 extra dollars to be able to connect an external microphone? Go Eff yourself, GoPro.
FDR looks ridiculous with a mount-poor shape not fit for an action camera.Action camera is best as a cube or square not pointed like a carrot like SONY

I was really looking forward to upgrading to GoPro 7 from my Sony x3000 because I like GoPros size and shape much more. But the low light on it is kinda bad. I use my camera everywhere on my holidays. That's a bad point I really have to be comfortable to accept to have all the (fixed) good points of the camera. The battery/storage problem is annoying but I'll accept if it's the price to pay.
I really like the stabilisation and voice commands on this, very impressive. And it seems like it turns on faster now. Before GoPro turns on/record in 5 seconds compared to Sony's 2 second turn on/record. In your review I can see voice command turn on then record was 4 seconds long. I wonder how fast it can turn on and record with the one touch button feature.

Hello, great video comparison, i use GoPro 5 and I just returned my GoPro 7. I am an amature video-ograpgher, 🤪. I needed a camera with higher reliability, and easier to deal with In post. The file extension drove me to tears as my kick butt new cyber power desk top couldn’t play the dam Hcv file extension, and troublesome with the Corel Video program I was learning to use. I gave up on both the 7 and Corel. With my return credit I got the Sony FDR AX33 / AXP33, I See now this will not suit my needs and I should return it before it’s to late. It looks like the Stoney 3000 will be exactly what I need for my always in motion videos. I just need to see how the Sony 3000 does for panning. Thank you so much for this video! Subbed!
Great review. I like everything about GoPro 7 Black. What is missing from this great product, it would be nice with volume meters on the display to indicate the camera is picking up sound from internal microphones or a external microphone if you use that. Higher bitrate options and some other display tweaks. I am sure most of these things can be fixed with firmware updates.
Not that I need another GoPro but with the better mic and stabilization than a GoPro 5 I will be upgrading! Another great review as always!
Hang on to your horses, GoPro 8 is coming out soon, and I see the 9, 10 ,11 and 12 all coming out in about 10-12 month intervals.
