life saver, you are a life saver. i was soo frustrated with the transparent layer coming in view when I was painting on background layer. I tried looking at the krita online articles about it and everyone was soooooo unhelpful there. they suggested many weird ways to fix it with lot of technical terms. I ended up cussing few of them. But you just in 5 sec you fixed it. can't thank you enough you restore my faith in humanity and krita application lol.
Thank you for this! I am entirely new to digital drawing and was looking for something that would highlight the basics. I am now off to watch all of your other videos...
Wonderful job! My 12 years old son is a cartoonist and i introduced him to Krita, which i think is a wonderful program that will certainly help him accelerate his passion in art. We both looked at this tutorial together and it was very explicit and easy to follow. Looking forward to more of your videos on Krita!
Thank you! This is perfect. I've never ever used any digital media and this is a terrific beginning. I've just taken up line drawing during covid and thought I could just colour it in using Krita until my artist daughter commented, "Mum. Have you heard about layers?" Hahah Whaaaaat? So now I know :)
Thank you so much for your tutorial, i was looking for something like this and this video have the content very clear and precise. Keep doing this kind of videos I love them.
I was wondering if I can make make the upper layer totally cover up the under layer Ex (Hair over head and ears). Especially when animating. If I don’t color and it’s just black and white, I’d presume it wouldn’t work regardless. But do I have to add color to cover up the under layer so the hair can run over normally, or is there a way to do without?
I don't know much about animation but whatever you paint on the upper layer will cover the drawing beneath. You should look for krita animation tutorial and ask this question. Hopefully, someone will give you a better answer as they would know about animation.
Great tutorial! Been wanting to learn digital art for many years but starting to use Krita without guidance was pretty unintuitive. Glad to find your playlist for using Krita.

comming from Clip studio paint, this helps me so much . gonna take getting used to , since im moving away from clip on mobile ,but still using it on pc XD
Glad to know that the tutorial has been helpful. I have always been curious about clip studio but as I am comfortable with Krita, I never got around to try it.
I didn't want to use a paid app as a beginner as I didn't know if I would like digital painting. So free software made much more sense as I was able to explore digital painting as much as I wanted. However, after a while I became very comfortable with Krita so moving to another software didn't cross my mind. Now I recommend Krita not because it is free but for being a very good software in itself. Maybe someday, I will try clip studio. 🙂
If you merge layers into one, does that mean I can put together what I want into one layer and work those items in the layer? I am hoping to do something like that. I need to pull animals from one big drawing and place them onto a page so I can use them for a match game when it is printed out. Can I do this with the merge layer system?
@@Drawfishan Just to recap the steps, put drawing in layer, then select or clip? the section I want on another layer, then add another layer for another selection or clip, and merge the two layers (or more) together? Should I use the select tool, or copy past, or clip each animal I want off the image? Sorry, just need to figure out the steps right. Long project!
Even if you don't put the drawing in one layer, it will work as during printing you will need a jpeg or png which will automatically merge everything together.
Which version are you using? It should not affect the regular functions of Krita. May I know the brush that you are using or if you are working on the background layer?
Ty for the valuable information, I 👍 & sub u jus wanted to know if background layer can't be painted or even erase then what is the purpose of the background, I mean what situation it is used?
If there is no background layer then there will always be chance for the artist to accidentally painting over the bottom layer and exposing the transparent pixels. Background layer makes sure that you always have the base.
The icons for my layers have been showing up on the bottom of the screen, recently I clicked a small button that made the layers' icons disappear and now I'm not sure how to bring them back. Could I have some help? Thank you^^
There is an icon on the far right top corner. Right under the close (X) icon. Click on it and select default. Your layout will be restored to original settings.

Thank you so much, but for some reason the layers are not working on my drawing, I am working on a layer and when I move this one in order to be behind the other one it still show the color in front of this one, I do not know what is wrong, if some body know how to solve this problem I will appreciate your help.👍👍🤗🤗
@@DrawfishanHi, moving the layers, something happened to that file, because I created a new file and the layers are working normally , but for some reason in that one moving the layers does not affect the order they appear.🙄🙄

Did you check the auto save file? Maybe it's in there still. Next to your Krita painting file will be another file with ~ this symbol. Remove it and see if the layers are still there.
I would advise against unlocking the background layer but if you still want to do it then simply click on the lock icon on that layer. It will unlock background layer.
1. Try making a new document maybe the background layer was deleted accidentally. If the problem persists, use fill tool to fill layer one with white color. Then lock the layer. 2. If you still get a vector layer, right click on the layer, select "Convert" and then "Paint layer". Then you will be able to paint on the layer. Hope this helps ☺
Your video is great. However, I would like to advise on one thing. Only include your narration in a tutorial; never anything else. Imagine you are in a class and your classmate is playing music. You can't focus on what your teacher is saying. I hope you will accept my input as constructive and not be offended by it. All in all, it's a wonderful tutorial. Thanks.
Light background music helps most of the viewers to concentrate as many comments indicate the same. I include the music for that reason. And no, I am not offended by comment. It is nice to know that you are looking out for me. Although I can not remove the background music in these videos. I will keep this advice in mind for futur videos :)
It really depends on the artist. There are some times that I can draw on three layers in total but then there are some times that I make 20 plus and still need more.
