    Out of any free animation software I have ever seen so far, I think Krita is the best. Krita's tools are a perfect balance of simple and complicated, and they are easier to understand compared to Blender 2d and other software. It is also not too simple as compared to flipaclip and Pencil2d, such that it has ALL of the tools you ever wanted, in the right place. I highly recommend Krita to intermediate animators who has some experience like me.
    And it is so easy to understand how to animate on Krita with this perfect tutorial. Thanks Jesse!

      Krita succeeded cause Boudewijn Rempt isn't an elitist bleep, who discards the need of an artist over the glory of programming.
      Who knew giving artists a hand results in artists loving your software. Who knew. Who knew.

    I always tried to avoid Krita and worked with my cozy best friend Procreate, but since my first Animatic that I did in Krita became my most popular video I used that as a motivation to learn more 2D animation softwares.
    And my respect:
    This is one of the best software tutorials I have watched so far. A good pacing and all the important information in less than 30 minutes. This is one of the tutorials that encourage me to use the software instead of scaring me away xD
    Good Job!

      I’m trying to get into digital art and light animation and can’t decide between getting an iPad and using procreate or windows tablet for Krita. What do you prefer more?

    • @BENWELLAnimation
      @BENWELLAnimation ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@keys299 I personally still prefer my iPad and procreate but the main reason for that might be the flexibility. I simply draw and animate more because I can take my iPad everywhere. Although it is more expensive, I definitely am happy with the choice of having an iPad as my main drawing and animation device and I can highly recommend it for hobby artists.
      As an animation student or professional I would recommend a drawing tablet since the programs available on the IPad are quite limited. In the end it is dependent on your situation and your goals.
      If you are unsure you can also try out the devices if possible (if you know someone who owns a drawing tablet or an iPad). Working with the devices and trying it out before helped me make a decision.
      I hope this was helpful :)

There's kinda just a difficulty understanding the visual flow of animation when the illustrated pages are not ...well, y'know animated! Over the years I've watched a few dozen animation vids & probably a few hundred art tutorials when I considered trying to monetize art.
    This tutorial has got to be at least top 10, even top 5.
    - Clearly articulated
    - Comprehensive guidance for beginners to the software & features being used (very rare)
    - Simple example anyone could follow (not animating some master piece that discourages even trying)
    - Easy tips & tricks w/ with simple examples of how & when to apply them along the way (not just isolated tips w/out guidance on execution)
    Absolutely outstanding. You're who I'll be learning animation, Krita, & anything digital-art-related moving forward. You just set the new standard in my mind.
    Subscribed to YT & Patreon. For $5 I can get a finished animation to study? Definitely want to see what one of your completed animations looks like, & the way you animate different characters / expressions.

    Thank you very much for this amazing tutorial. It's very well made, clear and with perfect pacing.
    I am familiar with animating in Clip Studio Paint and I find the concept of Animation Folders implemented there very intuitive and easy to use. In Clip Studio Paint, every frame you have on the animation timeline will have one or multiple layers that correspond to it in the Layers palette. This is intuitive for me because it allows you to use all the traditional digital drawing practices of separating your scene into a sketch layer, line art layer, flat colours layer, shadows layer, highlights layer, background layers and special effects layer. You're basically still using the approach you already use for illustration but you are doing it for multiple scenes where only one of them is allowed to be visible at a time.
    Krita's approach seems different. You can correct me if I'm wrong but from what I can see, only the first frame in the animation timeline has layers that correspond to it in the Layers docker. The frames after the first frame don't appear as individual layers in the Layers docker at all. It's like they are virtual layers stored in memory or something. If that is the case, how would you approach doing a more sophisticated animation that involves colours, shadows and special effects ? Are you able to recreate the workflow in Clip Studio Paint inside Krita somehow using these virtual layers ?
    I know I'm in no position to ask for this but I would be really grateful if you can make another video about how you would approach animating a full colour short scene in Krita that has line art, shadows, background and (if possible) special effects. I really want to learn the most efficient way to use the virtual layers aspect of Krita when doing animation.

    • @jessejayjones
      @jessejayjones  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure! Every animation program is going to work different, and have its quirks. I come from an Adobe Flash/Toon Boom Harmony background, so I prefer the way Krita handles animation, because it's far fewer layers to keep track of.
      To do line art, coloring, backgrounds, etc. I would simply make one layer for each, and you can set these layers to Multiply for shadows as an example.
      Then, afterwards, you can throw all the layers in a folder, and add a Transform Mask to that folder to animate it like it's a camera. :)
      Like I said, learning any new program is going to have its quirks that need to be learned before it feels familiar. Hope this helps, good luck!

    If you have an editing software, like Premier or Resolve, use the image sequence and do audio design in there.
    This also gives you the options to change colors, audio and speed outside of Krita, and because the programs are more tailored towards that, they are better at it

    • @RoguePlutonia
      @RoguePlutonia ปีที่แล้ว

      do you need ffmpeg to download the images?

    • @mechaboy95
      @mechaboy95 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RoguePlutonia No
      in the output properties, under output, select OpenEXR
      and in Resolve, under Media, drag and drop all rendered frames and select "Sequence" under Frame Display Mode (3 dots). then drag into media pool.
      To be honest, I don't have Premier
      I don't need ffmpeg

    • @RoguePlutonia
      @RoguePlutonia ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mechaboy95 when you say resolve, what are you referring to? I only have DaVinci Resolve for video editing

    • @mechaboy95
      @mechaboy95 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RoguePlutonia Yes, I mean DaVinci Reslove
