I don’t know what it is about her voice. Just about any song she sings makes me cry a good cry. Not many things in life does this to me . My heart is somehow in line with the tone of her voice. The sound of her voice is so soothing and hypnotic that my mind goes to places in my past. Some memories are sorrowful and painful and just by listening to her angelic voice some how makes everything better and replaces them with joy and happiness. I agree with you. This is one of the most amazing vocal performances I've ever seen for so many reasons. It's insane that a nine-year old knows this song; it's insane that she can understand it musically; it's insane that she can rewrite it basically to make it her own. What I love about Angelina is not just her beautiful voice. But how she is in here own public life,her love for kids and everything person on this planted. There is a not a day goes by without her asking everyone to stay safe and she loves us. Now that's someone that just doesn't come around very often.

What is interesting here, is that at barely 9 years she had already been singing jazz for 7 1/2 years, been studio recording for 3 years, and writing her own arrangements for a year, had become the youngest published author in Norway's history, learnt 3 musical instruments, learnt to speak 3 languages (english singing is her 3rd language), achieving top marks at school, oh and along the way she entered Norway's got talent at age 7 and won it. just a nice normal every day little girl. Angelina was just barely 9 years old when this video was made. 9 years old! I have said this many times, but this is the single most impressive thing I have ever seen a 9 year old do. All the things she is able to with her voice is impressive enough. Then add to that all the master level choices she is making in her arrangement... and then on top of all that, she makes it look as effortless as breathing. Like it's just nothing at all for her. You will find this song is not like a lot of her other performance in terms of the rough, growly vocals, but this is one where anyone can tell immediately that they are witnessing something special. You still have a lot more special performances to hear from Angelina. She is going to impress you every time. every. single. time.
Rusty, I agree with you wholeheartedly that this performance by Angelina is truly the best thing I have ever heard from a 9 year old child (and most 15, 21, 35, and 48 year old singers)! I noticed in her later video singing this, maybe around age 12, she pulled back just a little bit, especially with the high stuff. I wonder if someone told her to take it easy so as not to damage her voice. I'm sure you probably have heard about Joey Alexander, another child prodigy. Like Angelina, his family played music, especially jazz, all the time as he was growing up. By age 6, he had learned to play jazz piano all by himself. If you haven't watched his early videos or heard his recordings, please do so. He is 16 now. I would love to hear Angelina and him in concert together. It would blow my mind!
I've watched a lot of reactions to this, and I've noticed a pattern: Reactors are amazed by the first words, then they are amazed by the next thing she does. They kind of think they've heard it all, but before they have a chance to react, she ups the amazement with the next thing. And while they are soaking that in, she does something even more impressive. Then she takes their breath away with the next thing. And so it goes until the very last note. Its like something great from the past took over her body and did all that. And when the song ended the kid returned as you noticed in her final hand gesture. 😉Amazingly unbelievable. Seriously she channeled the Great Screamin Jay Hawkins here..., the original singer of the song.(His face is in the candle she's holding in the start of the video.) And no one will ever think of doing that even pro and experienced singer coz it's unobtainable task. But Angelina with all her innocence just put that easily in her belt.
Ah! but the shy and private Angelina in real life becomes the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing immediately she goes into performance mode and back to the shy and private person within seconds of the end of the song. I know of no other singer who can do this so flawlessly.

After 40+ years as a music educator and jazz musician, I would say to all young singers: Don’t try to sing like Angelina until you know how to do it, especially where she belts out in the high register. Take voice lessons and learn everything you can about vocal technique and artistic styling. If you try to do what she does before you know what you are doing, you could severely damage your voice and may never be able to sing again. Angelina has a gift that, comparatively, very few people in history have ever had. All of her physical vocal abilities and sense of musical style came with her at birth and because her family played music all the time as she was growing up. She is a force of nature. You can aspire to sing like her, but don’t push it. We would like to see and hear you on TH-cam someday!
Not since Janis Joplin has there been a singer able to growl a lyric like a hurricane followed by a mellow cry of passion. i believe Angelina will be the voice of a generation.

Yeah, definitely an old soul inhabiting a new vessel!!! She won Norway got talent at age 8 for a reason. I highly recommend her cover of "Summertime" from that competition. What you just heard, Sofie, is a masterpiece. For me, the entire production is about as good as it gets. She's paying tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins (in black and white), the composer of this song (1956). This song has been covered many times, with a wide range of styles. I would say the most famous is Nina Simone's. While I have only heard a few of them (maybe 10), for me, this cover by 9 year old Angelina is the best I have heard. Great reaction. If you take an hour and listen to the reactions of pros, vocalists, etc., you will see on this song and others, human beings reacting in wonderment how this child/kid/teen is performing the song(s). Especially the slower emotional songs, real professionals/wannabees/whomever all react pretty much the same. I can sum many folks first reactions... "WTF just happened there!" to "OMG, this isn't real!" My view is she the first talent in 50 years that is operating outside the bounds of our existing music system. She was exposed to jazz recordings early on but her innate ability to express the emotion of the song is stunning. Many have described her as an old soul or reincarnation. Its like something great from the past took over her body and did all that. And when the song ended the kid returned as you noticed in her final hand gesture. 😉Amazingly unbelievable.
Seriously she channeled the Great Screamin Jay Hawkins here..., the original singer of the song.(His face is in the candle she's holding in the start of the video.) And no one will ever think of doing that even pro and experienced singer coz it's unobtainable task. But Angelina with all her innocence just put that easily in her belt.
Ah! but the shy and private Angelina in real life becomes the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing immediately she goes into performance mode and back to the shy and private person within seconds of the end of the song. I know of no other singer who can do this so flawlessly.

After 40+ years as a music educator and jazz musician, I would say to all young singers: Don’t try to sing like Angelina until you know how to do it, especially where she belts out in the high register. Take voice lessons and learn everything you can about vocal technique and artistic styling. If you try to do what she does before you know what you are doing, you could severely damage your voice and may never be able to sing again. Angelina has a gift that, comparatively, very few people in history have ever had. All of her physical vocal abilities and sense of musical style came with her at birth and because her family played music all the time as she was growing up. She is a force of nature. You can aspire to sing like her, but don’t push it. We would like to see and hear you on TH-cam someday!

What you just heard, Sofie, is a masterpiece. For me, the entire production is about as good as it gets. She's paying tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins (in black and white), the composer of this song (1956). This song has been covered many times, with a wide range of styles. I would say the most famous is Nina Simone's. While I have only heard a few of them (maybe 10), for me, this cover by 9 year old Angelina is the best I have heard. If you take an hour and listen to the reactions of pros, vocalists, etc., you will see on this song and others, human beings reacting in wonderment how this child/kid/teen is performing the song(s). Especially the slower emotional songs, real professionals/wannabees/whomever all react pretty much the same. I can sum many folks first reactions... "WTF just happened there!" to "OMG, this isn't real!" My view is she the first talent in 50 years that is operating outside the bounds of our existing music system. She was exposed to jazz recordings early on but her innate ability to express the emotion of the song is stunning. Many have described her as an old soul or reincarnation.
