Heartwarming to watch this video. Nowadays it's the most natural thing in the world for a couple from Essex to emmigrate to and integrate in Co. Sligo. When I was growing up in Dublin in the 1950's and 60's there was still a great deal of grudging mistrust of the English and the Irish in Britain were largely seen as hod carrying Micks. The oppressive state religion (of which my innate childhood loathing has since been vindicated) along with the nationalistic propaganda taught in schools were the main reasons for me emmigrating to Germany in 1977. It's a matter of profound joy for me to see such a natural warm reconciliation between these two cultures which have more in common than they are aware of. Enjoy your life in Ireland!
This is great. I see you've put some extra effort into the editing and story telling. It shows. Very informative too with a dash of humour (exit only 😄) and if you show the right shots, it turns out like this little beauty of a video. Your best yet in my opinion.

A really good video. Well done! It is great that you like Ireland so much. It is the best country in the world to live. But then I am Irish and therefore biased! Two things I think you mentioned: hilly roads in Ireland and, you are from Wales. Wales is a really beautiful country but I think it may be the world champion for hilly roads! One memorable day was spent travelling from Aberysthwyth to Devil’s Bridge along the Vale of Rheidol narrow gauge railway. Something not to be missed. Enjoy your time in Ireland and I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Yes, Wales is a beautiful country but we were only there for nine months and lived in the town of Neath whilst preparing to move to Ireland . I am originally from London but spent most of my life in the east of England. Suffolk and Norfolk, where I spent a lot of my free time make a billiards table look hilly so it is really lovely to wake up in the morning, open the bedroom curtains and see farmland of rolling hills.

TBH,I really believe the bad historical elements were a double edged sword.I like to think that we Irish and British have a common history too,I trained as as a nurse in London in the 70s and was warmly welcomed.I feel we are similar to a family that can seriously clash at times.I think we would unite, and rise up against any enemy that would threaten our well-being.
@@pulchralutetia I was a nurse, primary care parent,so I can assure you not all rich living in West Cork.Amazing salt of the Earth people.I don’t know any drop outs to be honest, but I always believe people should not have labels attached.
The reason we have alot of ruined churches & monasteries is King Henry's dissolution of the Monasteries beginning in 1536 & the penal laws in Ireland beginning in 1695 in which Catholics were not allowed to practice their religion hence the churches suffered with no income. Many churches had their roofs removed.
In 2011 the Cornish Pasty was awarded Protected Geographical Indication by the EU, which meant only pasties made in Cornwall could be advertised as such. I know this because I used to love them and was very sad to learn they were no longer available here in Ireland. (Must learn to make them.) Not sure if that rule still applies post-Brexit but the supermarkets will still be reluctant to take the risk.
Welcome to Ireland,as a fellow blow in from Wales/Somerset. Pork pies are my favorite but not found in Ireland except Tesco bad attempts. So I make my own. Agree on the pasties too. Garage deli are excellent for food on the go .

The bus service around Cork city is excellent and a 1000 times better compared to when I was a child in the late sixties early seventies when it was a joke.

The recent ongoing ,"Transport for Ireland" T.F.I. Bus routes, 'Roll Out" are now linking up small towns and Villages with the Hinterland thus allowing people to connect and commute into larger towns throughout the Day to do shopping and to their workplace, this conductivity makes access to do shopping and the like , also as you say Wireless Rural Broadband is a Game changer, with good speeds and even that VOIP Phone you have what mimics a local Landline could be handy for ringing back to Wales without incurring penal International rates ...that are charged on the Mobile Network...Great Upload....
I'm sure you've been there already but if not check out Gleniff Horseshoe. It's right on your doorstep there in Sligo. It's absolutely stunning. You're very lucky to live in Sligo. That's where my wife and I intend to retire to. Great video
What an awesome video. I’m so glad that you love our country so much. I hope also that you found the much vaunted hatred of the Irish for England is purely for their national sports teams. It’s mostly jealousy. There’s not much difference between us. I’ve never met an English person I didn’t really like.
The old church grounds are pre reformation churches and abbeys, small abbeys in the west that were closed during the Henry 8th period. Since most people didn’t convert, nearly none there was no use for them. After catholic emancipation in the early 1800s from about 1830 Catholic Church’s were allowed again and they were rebuilt in new French neo gothic style, the people having long forgotten the previous styles.
@@OldHikingGeezer-lp7bu And welcome to Ireland of course. Like all english people who move here, they often become more Irish than the Irish. You have to learn to allow for ups and downs and navigate through the blarney at times, especially in business matters in the west in particular, you might find it very odd at times, but be yourself and everyone will understand. It's ok to demand precision and asking people to get to the point, trades men and the like will not be precise about time and cost at times, but it is a type of patter in the language and culture and you have to search for the point. And you will be believing in the fairies in no time, they were here before us, no question.
King Henry the Eighth is the man responsible for the disolution of the monasteries and the main reason why many are in ruins. But having said that, they are great ruins.
I knew someone who'd lived in Ireland for 40+ years, they were still introduced as the Blow-in. Ireland invented flavoured crisps, Whiskey, and Binaural Stethoscopes, which all Doctors still use! Sadly Tayto Park is no more, they lost the licence to use that name, so from 1st January 2023 its been known as Emerald Park. I grew up in Ireland and moved to Essex, now in Kent.
@@OldHikingGeezer-lp7bu I moved to Basildon when Depeche Mode, Alison Moyet and Denise van Outen were locals. My dad was born in Danbury Palace and fell in love with Ireland on holiday, and moved there!
I wasn’t aware of that but I’m not surprised. I probably wouldn’t have been here if it wasn’t for the abuse that Gabi got from the young idiots in her cab who kept telling to f*#k off back to Germany and scaring her. There was a town mayor who lived in the UK for years, was employed, paying tax and married to an Englishman. She was refused settled status. I was worried that this could happen to Gabi.

What a lovely video! Thank you! It is beautiful here❤x
It really is!
Lovely lovely video.Delighted to subscribe.I live in Kinsale,West Cork might appeal to you.
Isn't West Cork full of English rich people and drop outs?
@@pulchralutetia I was a nurse, primary care parent,so I can assure you not all rich living in West Cork.Amazing salt of the Earth people.I don’t know any drop outs to be honest, but I always believe people should not have labels attached.
Nice photography. Enjoyed the music too.
Thank you
Thank you.....super video.
Great video keep it going
Excellent ❤🇮🇪☘👋
Great video… and welcome… (still hope you loose in the final though😆👍)
I couldn’t care less about the England football team. I am,however, ecstatic than Great Britain won the speedway world championship yesterday. 😊😊😊😊
Pudding haircuts for the lads are definitely a thing in Ireland.
Great video 😊 welcome to they family
Thank you!! 😊
@@gezley100 I’ve found them! Supervulu in Tubbercurry has them on the hot counter and they are advertised as Cornish pasties but made on the premises.
Nice photographs
Welcome to Ireland,as a fellow blow in from Wales/Somerset.
Pork pies are my favorite but not found in Ireland except Tesco bad attempts.
So I make my own.
Agree on the pasties too.
Garage deli are excellent for food on the go .
@@paulturner7829 Even MacDonalds tastes better here than in the UK. Must be the higher food standards.

The bus service around Cork city is excellent and a 1000 times better compared to when I was a child in the late sixties early seventies when it was a joke.
I can believe that as Cork is Ireland’s second city but, in the areas like where I live it is very reliable but infrequent. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. It is very much appreciated as I learn so much from this type of feedback and it assists me in planning future videos.
Fantastic video. Very informative, nicely narrated, beautifully shot, & well edited. Oh, & lovey a soundtrack too. ❤️👍
Céad míle fáilte.
Thank you for your kind words
I'm sure you've been there already but if not check out Gleniff Horseshoe. It's right on your doorstep there in Sligo. It's absolutely stunning. You're very lucky to live in Sligo. That's where my wife and I intend to retire to. Great video
What an awesome video. I’m so glad that you love our country so much. I hope also that you found the much vaunted hatred of the Irish for England is purely for their national sports teams. It’s mostly jealousy. There’s not much difference between us. I’ve never met an English person I didn’t really like.
Very good thanks 👍🏻
Great video-many thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Very good
Thanks
A lovely video
Welcome to Ireland bud 👍
Signage of trails can be patchy depending on what county. Further down the less good signage.
Thank you
@@OldHikingGeezer-lp7bu And welcome to Ireland of course.
Liked and subscribed great videos
Thanks for the sub!
I love your videos
Unfortunately 'Tayto Park' is no more, goes by 'Emerald Park' these days.
Oh well, that is a shame. Still, its new name is so Irish and charming.
I hope you framed that picture at 1:40, great catch.
Glad you like it. That was taken from the summit of Knocknashee.
@@OldHikingGeezer-lp7bu it's timeless.
Lovely video.
Thank you very much!
Ireland has it's own unique rail gauge?! I never knew. Whose brilliant idea was that?
King Henry the Eighth is the man responsible for the disolution of the monasteries and the main reason why many are in ruins. But having said that, they are great ruins.
I knew someone who'd lived in Ireland for 40+ years, they were still introduced as the Blow-in. Ireland invented flavoured crisps, Whiskey, and Binaural Stethoscopes, which all Doctors still use! Sadly Tayto Park is no more, they lost the licence to use that name, so from 1st January 2023 its been known as Emerald Park. I grew up in Ireland and moved to Essex, now in Kent.
In from Brentwood in Essex. Where did you live?

Welcome. You are one off 350,000 family's who have settled in Ireland since Brexit Referendum 24th June 2016.

Pensioners in Ireland get a public service pass ,which allows them travel free on all public transport. They also get a medical card which means all doctors visits are free and a prescription costs one euro .
Is it not e2.50?
Means tested for Irish Citizens.
@@treborsirrah7916Sorry , maths not my strong point. I pay e1.50 per item which will reduce to e1 if I reach 70.
The medical card is means tested

As far as I know metal detectors are not banned, but you need a permit from the government to use them.
