Thank you, Parts Dr, for this video. I’m optimistic our problem is fixed now. One further tip to your viewers: DON’T test the ice chute flap with a cup of water after you put in the new parts until the fridge is plugged back in. That’s because there’s a cam controlling flapper position and it may not be in the right position until you get power plugged in. (Seems obvious now!)

This procedure could be done without unplugging the frig. You just need someone to hold the control panel while you work so it soesn't scratch the door. Great videos! Subscribed!

I removed the lone screw but after repeatedly trying for an hour now, the front control panel will simply not budge even when applying straight out pull pressure using two hands in the dispensing hole. Is there another screw somewhere? Hidden locking tabs? Another technique? FYI--I used a razor blade around the three sides of the control panel just in case debris was causing the problem but no change. The hidden black underside panel is too thin to try and pry try it out with a screwdriver. Please note that my unit (model #RF28HMEDBBC/AA) has a gray cover around the water dispenser while your demo unit has a black ring. Your video suggests that very little pressure is required. I am applying so much pressure that I am afraid I will break off the front panel snap tabs. My dispenser leaks air into the ice maker and I need to replace the flapper mechanism with a unit I purchased from you so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Me Too! Ours is a RF23HCEDBWW with leaking flap as well. And we can't get the cover off either. One screw out, pryed back bottom with screwdrivers but only budged about an 1/8 inch. Can you help?

You will think you are going to break it. Those clips work too good! .. lol. The thumb pushing is the key. Just try the bottom right at first if you are afraid. Remember pull on bottom and push with thumb for pressure...m

I replaced the flap with a brand new one, its seemed to seal initially but after a week seems to be leaking more than the old one. did I miss a step or is it faulty?

We have a Samsung RF22KREDSR/AA-05 with a leaking flap. The panel is slightly different from the one in the video. I have tried to remove the ice dispenser cover several times to no avail. After removing the screw, I have pulled on it as hard as possible and it doesn't budge. Are there any other tricks to get it off without breaking it?

rh22h9010sr my flapper is stuck open. No AC voltage is going to the flapper motor when the switch is activated.
So I don't think the flapper assembly will fix it. What is the next component I can replace to make sure voltage is going to the motor?

I did the water check and it came out the dispenser. The flap doesn't appear to be damaged. Do I replace the whole flap assembly or just the spring?

    • @PartsDr

You would want to replace the flap assembly.

If the flapper is stuck open would that make the water stop working? Our water does not work and the flapper stays open. Everything else works... ice dispenser and maker.

It doesn't sound like a related issue unless both of those problems occurred at the same time.
