      They're from Grand Rapids-our second largest city. It's mostly OK.
      They did not vacation in the Hoods of Detroit or Flint, however.
      The Issue with cities like Portland is that they are relatively small, and are mostly Non-Ghetto.

    I live in Portland, and I can tell you that this is a direct result of not punishing criminals. These people who feel sorry for criminals and want to say it's not their fault they are the way they are have created this mess. They think jail isn't the answer. YES, IT IS! When people are punished, they are less likely to do it again. Period.

If you are going on a cross country trip, you should plan to take your items with you whenever you leave your car. I remember once, in my 20s, I had bought a new camera and opened it on the way home from the store. After I parked, I walked into my building with the camera in my hand, leaving the open empty box on the front seat. Someone saw that and broke the window to get what might have been in the box, and anything else possibly in the car. It was a good lesson. How can I get interviewed like this? I also had a similar horrible experience but much worse in Burlington Vermont! I was staying at an Airbnb for a work trip and was harassed by 2 ex convict looking women outside my door and I was unable to leave. I told them that I would call the cops and they proceeded to threaten me and say “the cops won’t help you.” When I called the cops, they told me that because they are understaffed and had a bigger issue to deal with, that they could not come and help me out. That was literally one of the scariest moments ever. I ended up having to call my coworker and boss so they could come rescue me. When they got there, there was a whole group of them outside yelling at us and they seemed drunk/high.
    My advice to people is to avoid places like these, and if you can’t, then you better have a gun or some other type of weapon on you, whether it be bear spray, pepper spray, etc.
    I’m progressive af, but getting rid of cops is not the way to go. Having an over abundance/unnecessary number of cops in a city is not safe, and having no cops is also unsafe. No one should feel unsafe anywhere, and we as a country should be more rational about things, as opposed to prone to extremism.

    I first visited Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington in 1962, and fell in love. I was 20 years old then and promised myself that I would be back one day. In 1977 I moved with my two young children to the Pacific Northwest and lived in Vancouver, Washington just across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. The town back then was small, very clean and it was a great place to raise young children. However it had limited ability to satisfy in the social arena. Portland was the place to go for that. Back then the crime rate was low and pretty much confined to certain areas that we avoided. And the city itself was very clean. It was beautiful actually and I loved living out there. Every time I travelled the return to the Pacific Northwest felt like coming home to a place where I had belonged all my life. Seven years passed before I moved back to the east coast. For a long time I pined for what felt like a major loss and seriously considered returning. Even now, having gone back for a visit a few years ago, I sometimes still long to be out there but only if I could go back to those magical days of thick, dark evergreen forests, cool summers, mild winters, snow-covered Mt. St. Helens, the majesty of the Columbia River Gorge, the clean. peaceful city on the north banks of the Columbia and the clean, good fun city of Portland, a fairly big city then that never felt, smelled, looked,or acted like any of the big cities on the east coast that I had known. About five or six years ago my daughter and I flew out to visit friends who lived near Portland. The visit with them was wonderful but a visit to the city of Portland was bitter sweet. Everything basically looked the same, the river, the roads and bridges, the buildings downtown but the streets of town were now littered and dirty and the homeless were everywhere, sleeping on the streets, some in tents, some just out in the open. I don’t have the words to write all that I saw, heard, smelled, stepped over or around that day. What a crying shame! The city had become a pit and was well on its way to becoming a dystopian nightmare. Much later and back home, I learned that Seattle, Washington, a once lustrous, shiny jewel of a city was now the same as, if not worse than, Portland.

That means no more freebies.. Shoot I would take away needle exchanges.. take away the safety nets. You want to live like an animal you can face the consequences of your decisions to include some pretty horrible diseases and suffering.. it might just save some other lives. I wouldn't put another dime into anything except effective drug treatment and not something they can just walk out off. Something a judge can send you to and you don't get to just leave. A get clean farm. You work, you get treatment, you get some pay, you learn some skills but you can't leave and it needs to last quite a long time. 2nd time is just plain old jail and you get to rot in there for being a hazard to yourself. The northwest is ruined mostly by the flood from the south that has been ongoing for over 4 decades. They have changed the culture and ruined what was a nice little city.

    I moved to Portland in 2000. It was the coolest little place to live. We had a blast, and I'm not exactly sure when it changed, but once it did, Portland was being eaten alive from the inside out. I left in late 2019, wound up in California, where I NEVER thought I would be. I was born in Seattle, but didn't live there long. I went to visit in 1999, it was pretty cool, I should've went about 10 years earlier I guess. But the destruction that's happening to both those cities is unforgivable. The people in charge should have criminal charges brought against them. Something.
    The mayor and the governor have been fumbling the ball for YEARS! People are sick of the liberals letting everything run amuck! Most of the state just wishes PDX would either get it together, or let them break the state apart, nobody wants anything to do with more CRAZY!
    I don't know if either Portland or Seattle will ever recover from what's going on now. And honestly, these two lost some GEAR, I'm just grateful it wasn't more serious! I'm glad they're ok and made it back home safely. Sorry about this trip you two, you're a cute couple, stay safe and blessed.

      Yeah, but the city politicians are going to re-fund the defunded police...so everything can return to normal...lmao. • @interior_defecator
      @interior_defecator 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The defunding stuff was almost 100% big talk, anyway. The 2021 budget was down like 4% from 2020, and then the budget grew every year after that. It's currently higher than it's ever been. Turns out you can't make many lasting or serious policy changes by doing insurrectionist cosplay because you got bored during quarantine.

    • @BWolf00
      @BWolf00 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@interior_defecator I can't speak to this budget but across the country most defunding efforts were more about taking the money away from police and criminal prosecutions diverting the funding into other social programs while also passing policies permitting or laws legalizing criminal activity....overall budgets were rarely decreased. Many of these cities eliminated open police positions especially for patrol officers while encouraging early retirements. With the vitriol of the public and the dearth of political prosecutorial will the police quickly realized no arrests was easier and safer for them. So it is better for them to ignore these crimes and/or leave policing altogether...and now there's a nation wide shortage of experienced police officers. As you point out the net result is lasting impacts.

They would have accommodated them and prioritize them... Also you can knock out door glass windows really fast if there's multiple since you know what to expect on the next door... They're back glass also is pretty simple and straightforward I would have been able to knock that car out in probably three hours with the back glass and the four doors... Legislation needs to be passed to create "The B.E.E., The Bureau of Enhanced Extradition. This would create a Law Enforcement unit that takes criminals who are wanted in other States back to the State that has the worst offense on the books that the criminal is wanted for and travels with the suspect to that State. The suspect is turned over to the Law Enforcement agency and is further prevented from returning to Oregon unless their crimes have been resolved in ALL States they are wanted in. In addition, the fees and price to remove and return these criminals to their home States will be recovered through the Court and suspect SS information. The State that allowed them to leave will be billed for the funds and thus they can deal with their own criminal element. The cost to remove the criminals will be less expensive than leaving them here to perpetrate more crime and be a predator in Oregon. When the word gets around that Oregon is the State that extradites, the difference will be evident to the police and the residents of Oregon. Illegal drivers, shoplifting, illegal camping and all the other issues associated with 'cite and release' will be alleviated. It will take legislation and funds but the alternative is a crime filled area ripe for criminals. If you need to have proof, listen to a police scanner for a week. Hear for yourself what goes on near you
