What a great video. You said that the Victor is around 60 years old. With proper maintenance it will last another 60. Not many things made today will outlast it.

I have lived 70 years and have flown a multitude of aircraft, worked on cars and disassembled a multitude of machines. However, three things that are and remain complete and total magic to me are women, music, and sewing machines. Hats off mate.

Greetings Dan. I stayed thru the video and enjoyed every minute of it. I spent 11 years as a TV producer of Informational, Educational and Instructional television for the Feds, and I have to say you did an excellent job of production and presentation. As best I can tell, the person who invented the Victor machine was a student of both sewing machines and motion picture projectors. The similarity is amazing; just different names, like awl versus claw. Great job!! Glen (Molasses Cookies) from Maryland

The one thing that is NEVER discussed is how the needle drives through the new insole and the welt, but never nicks the upper! A camera down below, showing the path of the needle wrt the upper would be fabulous!

as an unpaid novice helper at a repair shop, the owner wont let me go anywhere near his stitching machines until i know how to use them, even if i bring my own shoes to work on. Catch 22. Rewatching this whole video like 50x over and over. Thanks for the info on how these things work.

Thanks Dan, fascinating machines, Them old engineers were clever folk creating a machine for stitching soles together such intricate parts but simple stitching, so many things need to happen to get it perfect.

Great video as always Dan! I must say I recently became a cobbler apprentice (thanks to you and other YT cobblers who inspired me). I was in the other day and I wanted to learn how the Landis outsole stitcher worked and I tried my hand at it. I must say it’s much more difficult than it looks. You can go off track easily, break needles etc. It was a surprisingly sensitive machine when it came to speed as well. But I’ll continue to practice on it along with the sanders and finishers, and hope one day I’ll be as good as my teacher and you!

@@dustinwilkinson6264 I must say I’m a Pepsi guy, but I’m also an athlete (Goalkeeper [Soccer]) so I keep my soda intake to a minimum and my water intake to a max. I’m learning this trade more so as serious hobby than a career, but also to have something to fall back on should university not pan out the way I hope it does. But I’m going in to the shop every week three days a week, just finished up my first 6 days. My teacher has over 30 years experience. He is also a very kind and patient man. Thanks for the demo. I do my own resoling, but, the one thing I (obviously) can't do as a hobbyist is to sole stitch, I have to find a kind cobbler who'll channel and stitch my soles on for me. Sadly, our local cobbler doesn't do goodyear welted shoes anymore so i have to go up to Cardiff. I've considered hand stitching, i have the tools, but I've never seen a neat job done... I am confident I can put a new welt on... as many cobblers do as they often lack a machine. Thanks Dan, fantastic videos. Marc.
