I used to have the denon speaker until it broke :( It was the best sound I had experienced from a speaker that size. Thanks for including it in the comparison. It makes it easier to pick a new replacement for it. Great video ❤
I know we’re not the biggest fan of non embedded EQ’s on this channel but I will say this, I use Spotify over other music services simply because Spotify has a rather effective in app 5 band EQ alrighty built in. Boosting the 60hz band on their EQ just a bit I find adds a touch more depth to the Bose’s sound that I can really appreciate. I tend to just leave the 60hz band a little boosted for listening across (almost) all of my devices as especially with my AirPods max , I feel it just gives a little more energy and excitement to their sound. Really enjoying the audio from the Flex right now, this is the first time I think I’ve heard a Bose speaker in this size that I haven’t really had an issue with. It really is a warm, rather satisfying listen for casual use, especially nice for it’s pretty compact size.
yeah tweaking for your own taste and environment will always yield an improvement. i have to stick to certain rules for simplicity. long as you like what you hear job done 👍
@@alanrossreviews Yeah that’s completely understandable. You’re absolutely right in that regard and it’s been working out pretty well for myself thus far, so no complaints. 🙂
still love my Denon it's quite usable for serious listening. If you use it regularly the battery self discharging becomes marginal. If you don't use it for longer time you can set it off completely with a simple button combo so you disable self discharging. Hard to find better separation and stereo effect in this size and form factor. Not perfect but pretty 'HiFi'. Still one of my favorites also in 2022 when it comes to sound quality.
I think use case plays a big part in the appreciation of the sound quality. With a portable speaker, intended for casual listening even outside, I don't think most people typically pay attention to mids, especially in a non controlled environment which does affect the sound enormously. I thing the tuning is just fit for purpose for the BOSE. If I really want to enjoy music that way, I'll seat in my couch with the audiophile arsenal take a book or close my eyes. Outise on a bike, I'd rather have a little bit more bass to counter the wind and other external noise, decent high to have a sense of clarity, enough medium to feel the sound a bit more open and wide. I think that's the equation BOSE nailed and made its success
It's a real shame they discontinued the Denon. It was ahead of its time. In spite of its issues it would be my pick between these 3. Unfortunately, the few places I've seen it recently the price is substantially higher than it's original retail price. The Bose did well but I'd choose the Denon over it because I typically don't listen at top volumes anyway. Thank you for another awesome comparison, Alan! 😁👍👏
Off topic but..... I got the trance 😶. Everything you said is spot on. For me it opens up at higher volumes but by then it's an overwhelming experience for indoors. As I mentioned I did apply an eq to bring it to a very clear and crisp sound with good bass that's tolerable for indoors and pretty bass deep compared to the preset sound for outdoor mode at high volumes. I still find myself angry that one volume level is a tad too low to give a full listening experience then one up touch after my doors are rattling. My conclusion is that it's not a bad buy seeing its 40 dollars above a boom or a motion plus but it's not a balanced speaker. Might as well boom your chest out or use an eq to tailor the sound at lower volumes. Motion+ is still my go to. Thanks for your reviews.
I actually purchased the Bose Flex today and compared it to the Denon Envaya and sound wise the Bose doesn't compete with the Denon. The problem with Denon is it has battery problems and you basically have to baby it to get it to work right. It's a shame because the Denon is a great sounding speaker and I haven't heard anything better in this size but it definately has connectivity problems and the battery drains fast unless you go throught the procedure where it doesn't drain the battery by pressing down on 3 buttons at the same time. I wouldn't recommend the Denon for a travel speaker and would stick with the Bose myself. I basically keep the Denon plugged in most of the time so I don't have to deal with the issues. I think this is the best sounding bt speaker I've ever heard from Bose and to have the option to connect to another Bose bt speaker is nice. I would say for a travel speaker this is a great option.
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS. Just a thought on the JBL Flip 6 vs the Bose SoundLink Flex. They are the same size and according to the internet the bose has a larger transducer than the JBL but the JBL has a tweeter and an adjustable equalizer within the app where as at this time on the bose connect app there is not an equalizer to adjust the sound. But I have another bose speaker and it uses a different music app and it runs on the bose msuic app and in the bose music app it has an equalizer so you can adjust the bass and the treble to your liking. And in the JBL portable app you can do the same thing except you can also adjust the mid-range. Bose could add an EQ to there app in the future/near future. Bc I read on the internet that when the JBL flip 6 was released it did not have an adjustable eq within its app for its speakers. But now it has an eq in the app. I think with the equalizer off on the JBL the bose sounds better but with the eq on I think the JBL sounds better. So if bose added an equalizer that could change things. I know the speaker has position IQ technology where it’s supposed to adjust the sound depending on which way you lay it but it would be nice to be able to turn that off if you wanted to. A similar portable speaker called the sonos roam has a similar feature but in the sonos s2 app you can turn that feature off. In the bose app you cannot do that or on the speaker itself either. And also Sonos has an adjustable EQ within the app like the JBL. The bose is behind the times with that but I bet they’ll change for the better. I would turn position IQ off and have an equalizer set to my liking if I could. I prefer my bose soundlink flex to sit upright so it’s pointing at me but they say it will produce more bass if you lay it flat, in my testing this is true. A little more bass for sure. Which I like. But I shouldn’t have to lay it flat to get maximum bass output. And the speaker needs better rubber feet on it because sometimes it will move it self. Or vibrate itself off the table. So I would recommend not placing it near the edge of a table if you don’t have to. Thank you for whoever actually takes the time to read this.
Well well Mr Ross, good prepared comparison 😉 the bose is not bad, it reminds me to the motion boost soundwise. If you have still two boosts, it would be an interesting comparison because they are still cheaper then...

@@ThibautMahringer agreed, but for flying or just squeezing it in small backpack these small speakers are more relevant. So it depends which type of travelling we're talking about. In general of course the motion boom is better.
right really depends on your needs but for small and light and then the bose is a major major maybe. we already saw even the charge 5 will sound better, im just comparing the smaller ones now. also i take smashability into account and the boom is not very knockable imho.
I dont know what your talking about the flip 6, it is brittle? What do you meen :)) jbl Has a Sound Signature specific, it's not brittle and how it Händles Bass to mids is better than both, maybe you dont like vocals of jbl, but thats how is tuned.
The Flex sounds too boomy next to the Denon not to mention it lacks completely in the upper high range and mids for clairty. The Denon just sounds more hi-fi since it is stronger in the harmonics range to extend all the way upto 20 kHz with a wider soundstaging. To me its the Denon that's better in terms of overall signature because it just sounds more accurate at reproducing the og recording as per intended by the artist.
I agree the flex sound pretty good but it's way too boomy; I was on the fence between the flex and flip and I went with the flip. Better separation and more clarity... oh and did I mention it's $30 cheaper? lol
@@alanrossreviews not necessarily...it has a decent bass from what I hear in your demo but taking into account all elements (design, balanced sound, size etc) I'd choose the Bose.

@@alanrossreviews expect several thousand views, form factor is definitely not an issue here. Looks like bose revolve but sounding better. A nice package.
Great, but what about motion+?
against the flex? that would be murder? flex already lost to charge 5. 🙈
Its too big?
@@alanrossreviews Motion Plus > Flip 6
The Bose seems impressive except for the battery and in the summer do you ever plan on checking out the JBL Pulse 5?
pulse series, hmm, not top of list and rarely get asked. vs?
Lol every speaker within the charge size and flip. I plan on reviewing this as well since I never had a Pulse before
but the pulse is about looking like a light show rather than the sound right?
Yep but this time it has a speaker set up like the Flip 6 except for 1 down-firing pr I still think it is over priced at 250$
I don't believe..bose battery are best it doesn't drown like other speaker even if you didn't use for days..
❗❗❗Lenyes S810 please!!!!!!!!!! ❗❗
So, after the Flip 6 vs Flip 5 review, I was convinced to upgrade.
Now, if I want to upgrade, I'll go for the Bose Soundlink Flex.
But...leave it six months and see what else comes along...
there is always the next thing coming along, just go with the flow and get the flex 🥳🥳
@@alanrossreviews
After somewhere around a year of using the VLC graphic equaliser on my Flip 5, with great results, I've been told this will damage the speaker.
No damage yet, but is there any truth in this?
I'm on the verge of getting a Flex, and don't want to damage it with the VLC equaliser.
@@lazer2365 any eq can potentially damage a speaker UNLESS you reduce overall gain
Flip 6 for me, but why getting any of these when you can get a Motion Boom ? 🤔
All of these are much lighter than the motion boom
@@udim7284 But the handle make the Motion Boom easy to carry around
@@ThibautMahringer agreed, but for flying or just squeezing it in small backpack these small speakers are more relevant. So it depends which type of travelling we're talking about. In general of course the motion boom is better.
@@udim7284 True, I guess my way of travelling suits speakers of any size
right really depends on your needs but for small and light and then the bose is a major major maybe. we already saw even the charge 5 will sound better, im just comparing the smaller ones now. also i take smashability into account and the boom is not very knockable imho.
Yes sirr Alan 🏆
I’m late
tut tut, i hope you have a good excuse? 😱
@@alanrossreviews I’m very good and you? You’re the best
you are the best yup!!!!!!!!! 👌😁
I dont know what your talking about the flip 6, it is brittle? What do you meen :)) jbl Has a Sound Signature specific, it's not brittle and how it Händles Bass to mids is better than both, maybe you dont like vocals of jbl, but thats how is tuned.
lol, excuse me for having an opinion.
LOL. Greaat review. Stop making me buy speakers. i have run out of ruuoom
but its only a little speaker 😝😝🤭
The Flex sounds too boomy next to the Denon not to mention it lacks completely in the upper high range and mids for clairty. The Denon just sounds more hi-fi since it is stronger in the harmonics range to extend all the way upto 20 kHz with a wider soundstaging. To me its the Denon that's better in terms of overall signature because it just sounds more accurate at reproducing the og recording as per intended by the artist.
the big difference is forward vocals on bose and recessed on denon. with some tracks the difference is huge.
@@alanrossreviews I mean the vocals are more pronounced on Bose but it lacks the details.
Bit too boomy for me and to my listening it subdues the clarity in mids.
I agree the flex sound pretty good but it's way too boomy; I was on the fence between the flex and flip and I went with the flip. Better separation and more clarity... oh and did I mention it's $30 cheaper? lol
JBL bluetooth speakers always sound harsh and not warm Bass to me. Wanted to like jbls... But just can't. Their soundbars are nice though.
charge 5 not bad for the money.
flex for me...
yup its the new standard for small form factor i think.... 🧐
with that battery its impossible is the best speaker the bose... i think the best travel speaker is ch 5... stiil!!
but charge 5 is bigger, i think the bose is in a smaller category
This is a major major go. I'm ready for the infor wars on the Bluetooth speakers! 150 quid that's a major major no!
After watching the whole review I'd say get the motion boom know you
but if you had to travel light it might be a major go? 🤷♂️
Hahaha
@@alanrossreviews I'm thinking about that one again guess it could be a major go after all
The Bose sounds better, I know crazy right.
Not really, both companies have different signature tuning.
Bose
its a no to the denon?
@@alanrossreviews not necessarily...it has a decent bass from what I hear in your demo but taking into account all elements (design, balanced sound, size etc) I'd choose the Bose.
Mossss
What ever your snorting, just try a good cup of tea
ok grandad!
Alan Ross dont use EQ
JBL like radio 90s signature ugly
I go for Bose Soundlink Flex 🔈🔉🔊
LOL - what happened to your ears over the years ?
ive been deaf since i was 7 👍
