    Great job! Perhaps you will take some advice from me. It seems to me that the weight of these nests can be reduced by: 1.Plywood thickness from 16 mm, at least up to 10 mm. 2.The floors on which the mat lies can be made of galvanized welded mesh. The design will not change, the weight will decrease. Good luck!

    I built a set of roll away nesting boxes on my first chicken coop. The floor of the entire coop, including the nesting boxes, was hardware cloth so the waste fell through to the ground. The only thing I regret is that my nesting boxes were kinda shallow because I was using cull wood as well. Next time I will make deeper boxes. 🐣🐥🐤🐓

    • @SaintTrinianz
      @SaintTrinianz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheDonovanFisher Yes, the hens did lay in it, aplenty and the eggs rolled to the back as designed, where they could be accessed by a hinged roof. It was a good design but I think I'll do better next time, at the very least with a roomier nesting box. I didn't use any litter or Timothy grass in the boxes and it didn't seem to bother them at all

    Thanks for the video. I am planning on using another idea for the egg rolling, but will use your design, as I won't be going into the pen. I plan on using coated hardware cloth for my roll, not the carpet as you mentioned. That way andthing that is not eggs can drop down and not get the eggs dirty. Helps when you want to water bath the eggs. But I do like your initial design. I plan on starting the build this week.

      if your chickens are eating their eggs it because they need better quality food...they are in need of calcium and/or protein. My layers get minimum 18% protein feed plus the addition of other foods like sunflower seeds, beans, lentils, and raw meat. For calcium they have oyster shells to eat anytime they want. And sometimes they get raw milk.
      When people ask if its worth keeping chickens I tell them you will be eating the best, most expensive eggs ever.

    When you say it is a 3 inch slope, that is for 16 inches of run, right? Only clarifying that because I though when a slope number is normally given that it is usually relative to 12 inches, but that is probably my incorrect understanding. Which I think means that the opening where the eggs roll through would be a 3inch high opening? great video btw. agree that the music should be ditched, but it was still pretty clear. thanks.
