    Hi! This video is awesome. I may have missed it, but how do you get the hens to go in and lay the eggs in the roll away nest?

    So could you please show a diagram of what I would have to cut if I wanted the nest boxes at 13"×13".. I'm either tired or dumb, or over complaining things. That's what happens when I watch too many videos.. so are your boxes 16" across the bottom? Thank you

    Hens dont normally poop on the eggs, they step in poop then step on the eggs, keep coop clean, gather eggs regularly, dont let them roost in nest box, no problem

      @evelyngoodshot-segovia4978 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That doesn't stop them from eating them. Which is the purpose of the egg box not the poop.

    Can you leave the eggs for a few days in Texas heat? I worry they will cook.

    That music is madness-inducing, which is bad enough, but it is also at the same level as your narration, which makes the video almost unwatchable. If you have poor taste in music and you lack audio skills then DON'T USE MUSIC in your videos.

    Thanks for the video. I am planning on using another idea for the egg rolling, but will use your design, as I won't be going into the pen. I plan on using coated hardware cloth for my roll, not the carpet as you mentioned. That way andthing that is not eggs can drop down and not get the eggs dirty. Helps when you want to water bath the eggs. But I do like your initial design. I plan on starting the build this week.

    I bought a metal three nest box from Amazon and built a wooden one for $50 like yours but used three paint trays for the angle and low pile outdoor green carpet. To sum it up my Girls only lay in the wooden nesting box. 😊

    I think the nap was a little too long, I used those foam rubber like floor tile that snap together like puzzles it works great and washes off nicely also!! That is a super nest bx,,,

    How much poop did you have to clean up on the astroturf?

  • @johnb.kirkland3926

    When you say it is a 3 inch slope, that is for 16 inches of run, right? Only clarifying that because I though when a slope number is normally given that it is usually relative to 12 inches, but that is probably my incorrect understanding. Which I think means that the opening where the eggs roll through would be a 3inch high opening? great video btw. agree that the music should be ditched, but it was still pretty clear. thanks.

    astro turf is not good for this. Learned this from experience. The weave is not strong enough. The chickens pulled the "grass" out.Good thing none of them got sick from it. And this was high quality stuff. It was scraps from a batting cage facility or whatever they call it.

    This has given me the starting point I needed to design my own boxes. Thank you! Do you feel like the egg landing tray is far enough away that a broody hen won't break eggs trying to get them back under herself?

      @preppingtexashomestead6315 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I am glad you asked that question I just had a broody hen she was able to get the eggs back so probably another couple inches would stop her from doing that
