I'm a harley guy which means I do a lot of work on my bike as a youtube mechanic. Recently finding my self helping out a guy with his 2010 ninja 250R which has been real fun. THIS video is by far the best, most thorough instructional/step-by-step I've ever seen. Thanks so much for the effort in getting the right camera angles and narration inserted!
Hi, your tutorials are so thorough, clean and well explained ! they have been so helpfull to me, i've got a Ninja 250R since March, and i've been practising my mechanics skill on this bike, using videos like this one to get things done. Thanks again for all the time and effort you put in this.
"The clamp is difficult to remove difficult, to install, and generally worthless". (Brilliant description of a worthless part. ) Fantastic video. 2 thumbs up. Worth the watch if you are new or even experienced when doing motorcycle repair.
This video is very helpful and thorough. I want to just drain my gas tank because it's been sitting for 6 years. What is the best way of draining. I'm afraid of removing the tubes and fuel start spilling out.
My daughters 250 has sat in a shed 5 years- do I need to remove the gas tank and clean it out? Or is there an easier way? Thank You. Your Video is Excellent!
My man on god I’ve got an 08 it’s my first bike and I’m sitting here in my garage at midnight taking it all apart to winterize it. Watching video after video and I must say yours was the most help. 👌🏻 taking the tank and fairings off to put some new ones on(old ones are factory from 08 and are all beat up) she’s gonna look nice in spring! But uh. I’ve got a question how should I empty my half tank of gas from the old tank?
I have never winterized a bike, but I believe you're supposed to fill the gas tank completely to prevent the inside from rusting and put gas preservative in so that the gas doesn't go stale.
Don't worry. Gasoline evaporates very quickly. Just be sure to work on the motorcycle with your garage open and with plenty of ventilation so the gas won't build up in your work space.
Gasoline won't hurt the bike. The bike is designed to be rained on repeatedly. I have ridden my bike in the rain over a hundred times and left it overnight in the rain probably 30 times. It's okay.
Also, make sure your garage is well ventilated. If gasoline does evaporate out of the fuel tap, fuel vapor can explode violently, much more so than liquid fuel. I've never had a problem with this, but there's always a first for everything.
Also, don't tilt the tank forward too much because fuel can come out of the tap, even when it's not on drain mode. And don't turn the tank upside down or fuel will go into passages it's not supposed to.
I have a 1998 Kawasaki Ninja ex250. Any chance you know if any newer models 250's or higher fuel tanks will fit my bike? I'm trying to find a tank without spending $600-800 for brand new 250 tank. I've seen a few ex500 tanks on Ebay. I don't know if they will fit?
Also, don't tilt the tank forward because some fuel can come out of the tank, and don't turn the tank upside down or gas will enter passages it's not supposed to.
I've never done that, but I'm sure you could. All you have to do is use a coin to turn the slot on the fuel tap to PRI. Then the fuel will come rushing out.

What is the point of the hoses at 19:40? My bike has one on it.
Something to do with reducing emissions in the environment. Only for California models.

Hello I accidentally left it on Pri and gas spilled all over the motorcycle. Is that bad for the engine? And how should I clean it up?

Thank you so much
Great video. Wow. Do you have to empty the gas tank before removing it? I've got a full gas tank and have to remove it.
You don't have to remove the fuel. Just be careful not to drop the tank because it's fairly heavy with fuel.
Thanks! You're a saint.

Dear good sir, did you already emptied the gas in the tank or is it okay to remove with some fuel left in it?
It's okay to remove the tank with fuel in it, but be careful. If fuel evaporates, it can become explosive.
Make sure your garage is well ventilated.
