- This video kicks off my series of painting all the models in Warhammer 40,000's Indomitus boxed set! I use a series of drybrushes and washes to speed paint all 20 Necron Warriors in under two hours!
This paint scheme was heavily influenced by the great videos on ZorpaZorp's channel which you can find here: • How to Paint: Necrons ...
Here is the list of the paints I used in this video:
Leadbelcher (Citadel)
Canoptek Alloy (Citadel)
Necron Compound (Citadel)
Retributor Armour (Citadel)
Nuln Oil Gloss (Citadel)
Agrax Earthshade Gloss (Citadel)
Cryptek Armourshade Gloss (Citadel)
Basilicanum Grey Contrast (Citadel)
Black Template Contrast (Citadel)
White Scar (Citadel)
Tesseract Glow (Citadel)
Simple with huge effect... Love it
Thanks!
I was hitting a wall trying to get the right metallic colour for my necrons. They have been collecting dust a long time and there has been a couple handfuls of warriors sacraficed for my dynasty testing paint themes out. Basilicanum Grey Contrast saved my necron army from forever being in the pile of shame! With my metallic primer the grey contrast is just perfect thank you!
Please post some more speed painting necrons!
doing it over a metallic primer definitely saves even more time! Glad to be able to help, I may do another video in the futures with one of the HQs to a bit of a higher standard but we will see!
Like the look and those crystals look amazing.
Thanks!
This was amazing work! I'm not as afraid to start painting now haha
Glad this video was helpful! You should never be afraid to start painting just go for it
Excellent way to approach these!
Thank you!
You are so talented! These look amazing. Really well done. Great job!
Thank you!
Very nice result! Is there any chance get a tutorial for the bases? I like the crystals.
I may try to do one in the future.
For these I think I used these crystals from GSW : www.greenstuffworld.com/en/transparent-resin/1439-green-glow-resin-crystals-small.html
and did a thin layer of tesseract glow over them then used GW astrogranite debris over the rest with a very thinned down wash of 1:1 nuln oil and agrax earthshade with a very light drybrush of any light0ish gray color
I didn't see you use Nuln Oil in the video but it says in the description you did. Can you confirm?
priming them in leadbelcher and then applying nuln oil over the whole model will give the same effect as priming them in black and drybrushing leadbeclher. it will take less time however.
Yes and no. The effect will be similar but not as dirty and interesting on a textur effect. Dry brush in this case give some nice effects on flat panels that spray can + nuln oil doesn't.
Their is still a method to achieve and similar effect with cans, an light zenithal priming with leadbelcher (or any other low-pressure metallic paint spraycan). It's an double speed effect because you can skip the first dry brush stage from the tutorial and the nuln oil stage that you propose.
And if you've an air brush, give a try to steel or dark aluminium from Vallejo it achieves the same effect too.

Well done, good painting !
Thank you!
Hello
Superb work, bravo. Where did you find these beautiful fluorescent crystals please ?
These were glow in the dark crystals from green stuff world. They look kind of off white normally I think I just did a thin layer of tesseract glow over them so they still glow through but look a more neon green in light
@@giantsdenminis8727 Thank you
Where did you get the crystals for the bases?
I'm not sure if they're exactly the same but Green Stuff World do these : www.greenstuffworld.com/en/transparent-resin/1463-green-glow-resin-crystals-medium.html?search_query=Crystal&results=32
Matt is right, I used the greenstuffworld glow in the dark crystals and put a thin layer of tesseract glow to give them a nicer color in daylight without getting rid of all of the glow in the dark ability
Would Leadbelcher spray be ok to use instead of the black primer + drybrush leadbelcher step?
Definitely could go that route, I think the main difference is you would have less black in the recesses and I find the metallic pigments in the sprays tend to be larger than than the pot paints. Though for army painting it would speed things up even further
Would you recommend these multiple drybrushes on any unit/dynasty first before using the main colours, as most necrons are gray/silver.
I think it would be a great way to knock out the 90%+ of the models that will inevitably be silver/metal really quickly then you could paint the dynasty colors over. Though I would definitely do some heavy weathering and/or chipping over any non metallic paint to make it match with the dirty/grimey feel the drybrushing/washing over the black gives to the metallics otherwise it may clash
Great video, I will use this. Could you list paints in the description?
Glad you found it helpful! I added the paints used into the description as well.
Maybe add some abandon black
sweet video :) what are the green stones you used?
Bit late but a common way to make crystals is to use hotglue sticks cut into crystals then heated very slightly with a lighter to make them clear, then painted over in a clear colour to give it that see-through green glow in the light. Can also use foam or similar materials.
These: www.greenstuffworld.com/en/transparent-resin/1439-green-glow-resin-crystals-small.html
then coat them in a thin layer of tesseract glow so they look a bit more fluorescent but still maintain a bit of the glow in the dark abilities when the lights are off
Nice job ! But you need a real microphone now
Ha thanks, point taken I guess the regular headphone microphone will only take you so far
sorry but.. exoskeleton underneath.. oxymoron right there. Exo is the stuff on the outside.. if its underneath, it is not the exo.
Necrons.. exoskeleton.
Terminator.. endoskeleton as it is under the skin... some random food for thought. ;)
Great attempt but tbh the crystals take away from the actual models on the bases. It drives your eyes to the crystals straight away when I look at them. Not being mean, just being honest bro. Those crystals are really cool but if you wanted to add them, maybe 3D print terrain or something and put it on there instead of on model bases.
Fair point, easy enough to replace them with some rocks or other debris instead to not draw attention from the models
@@giantsdenminis8727 They would be amazing on pieces of terrain or something. I still might have a go at them when I get round to painting haha, I've had necrons sitting on a shelf buried under dust, ironic considering what necrons are haha.
Enjoyed the video, it's always good to try new things and see what works, even if it isn't perfect.
