Orochi as a mother is honestly just so fun to try some off-meta magic builds with the children, even if they need a bit to get their magic stat actually going. I’ve just finished a Birthright playthrough where I used Flame Shuriken Orochi!Asugi in Butler through Dwyer Friendship and it was actually really strong despite the meh start in Master Ninja before completing his friendship, though that’s almost definitely a better build than Onmyoji Selkie just because Asugi already has a good magic growth
I loved using Master Ninja Selkie (Kagero as her mom). She had like 40 Speed at the end of my playthrough without Pair Up and I liked having Even Better (that’s the name of the skill, right?) to heal her back if she got hit. Look forward to the shenanigans Selkie will pull off!
Couldn't you have unequipped Even Better when she learned Future Sight just so you didn't have to spend a turn just waiting and make the grind go a tiny bit faster?
Her strength stat/growth drops off a cliff when her mom is Orochi. All basara would do is give her another weapon to be in E rank hell with for less magic and useless skills
I'm a bit confused, why is potent potion so important for stats? Doesn't it only give 1 to any given stat (except HP and Luck) at its maximum? I understand why that would be useful for benchmarks, but why does that make somebody go from having terrible stats to being usable? Am I missing something, or is 1 point of magic really the difference between usable and unusable? EDIT: Also, why does Potent Potion do more for Selkie's magic stat than Magic +2?
Potent potion only barely does more than magic+2, but since she gets that from being in onmyoji it is better for orochi to pass down something she won't get that'll still help. In this run, the most important thing is one rounding enemies and the ability to not die on enemy phase. In her current state, Selkie can certainly one round enemies without tonics just fine thanks to being overleveled and having all the magic stat boosters, but she's among the most frail members of my army in terms of survivability. If she's in a situation where she needs more dmg than what she deals with the horse spirit, getting the +3 def and +7 hp from the bulk tonics is enough to let her survive an extra 1 or even 2 hits depending on what she's fighting. That's where it's most important
@@Bluegh ohhhh, the bulk thing makes a lot of sense. I was about to ask how Potent Potion does more than Mag +2 before I realized Selkie can get Magic +2 but cannot get Potent Potion ^^; Thank you for clarifying!

Finally, REAL Birthright gameplay.
It took a year and a half, but I finally decided to play Birthright in my Birthright challenge run!
Reject Selkie, embrace Selfie
Nah I’m good.
I prefer Selkie over selfie…
I don’t like looking in the mirror

Why not make Selkie a Basara? Jw
