For many people outside the UK (certainly in the case of a lot of us Americans), it is difficult to understand the depth and complexity of Association Football, let alone its long history there. There are some similarities between the structure of AF and that of Major League Baseball, with the rather considerable exception of relegation - I can *promise* you that the concept of relegation would never enter the minds of any sports franchise owner in America, mainly because no one wants to imagine the New York Mets or Baltimore Orioles suddenly playing AAA-level league teams after a particularly bad season. I personally find that concept honestly amazing and one of the most fascinating aspects of AF - if the NFL played with a relegation system, the Cincinnati Bengals would currently be in danger of being dropped as they are winless thus far in the season. In typical American fashion (well-intentioned concepts poorly thought out), we use draft systems that permit the worst teams an opportunity to pick the best available talent each year to try to give some balance and parity to the leagues - sadly there are holes in that concept, like teams "tanking" (intentionally losing for a better draft position on the premise the rebuilt team will be able to compete right away), or teams like New England who just cheat (getting caught repeatedly) and don't give a shit. The most amusing aspect of the recent trend of teams tanking has been how incredibly pathetic most of those front offices were in their attempts to rebuild - the Miami Dolphins (who pretty much started the season with people *expecting* them to tank) have already given away proven talent on several occasions for future draft picks, yet have (amazingly) won a couple games in spite of this. Meanwhile, the aforementioned Cincinnati Bengals entered the season with much higher expectations, don't seem to be tanking and yet they have plucked defeat from the jaws of victory at every turn. The Indianapolis Colts, whose franchise quarterback retired on the night of their last preseason game, are still fighting for a playoff birth in spite of that considerable handicap - I suppose I bring that up with some pride, given I'm a fan of that squad and a lot of folks might have understood if they had just packed it in after that kind of news. Meanwhile, teams in Cleveland (Browns 2.0) & Phoenix (Arizona Cardinals) have been "rebuilding" for so long that they never truly seem built at any juncture - in the case of the Cardinals there are brief flashes of greatness separated by decades of despair, while the Browns have been mired in mediocrity for so long now that a season winning percentage of .500 would be considered a benchmark moment for the franchise. Point being, I suppose, that regardless of what approach they take, it still requires club management with live brain cells to build or rebuild teams. Folks still seem to be marveling over Leicester City a couple years after their surprise championship, and in my mind that is a feather in the FA's cap.

All of this can be found after like 5 minutes of research lads.
Stoke City are not one of the oldest, their stated age is factually - and proven - incorrect. They formed in the 20th Century. Nottingham Forest are an older side, the oldest currently in the English Football league.
It is interesting that the first Australian Rules Football club was found in 1859 whihc was before the rules were setlled upon.
Yep Melbourne Demons and Geelong Cats should technically be on this list
Great job!!
The EFL did dispute the claim that Stoke were formed in 1863, and confirmed that Nottingham Forest took the title of oldest football league club from Notts County following the Magpies relegation: www.nottinghamforest.news/2019/05/10/nottingham-forest-officially-confirmed-as-the-football-leagues-oldest-club/
Could you make one about the oldest teams outside of Engeland? Because all the oldest teams in the world are all english which makes perfect sence but still haha
It is interesting to see the first football club was formed by cricketers ..
A lot of them were, Hallam FC (1860), Sheffield Wednesday FC (1867) and Sheffield United FC (1889) were also formed more or less the same way.
Stoke were Founded In 1868 and Nottingham Forest were formed in 1864 how are Stoke older
7 best clubs formed after 1980
Hi Brandon, I have done the 7 best founded since 1968. It's here if you wanted to watch it: th-cam.com/video/nPRDM2xhyf0/w-d-xo.html
@@HITCSevens hull destroyed us :(
HITC Sevens oww wonderful ❤
Not sure about Notts County's colours influencing Juventus. The Italians played an absurdly named world cup around 1908 against a team from West Auckland Town who were given a set of Newcastle shirts when that team declined to go to Turin
Sheffield United didn't officially start playing football until 1889.
However we did form from the cricket club that invented football as a way to keep fit in the winter when there was no cricket.
Wrong
SUFC did not form Sheffield Cricket Club in 1855 I'm afraid
Can you do one of these about teams that are currently in the football league (only down to league 2)
I think the first club to named as such was Edinburgh Football Club.
The further you go in the list the more it looks like you only add one random geographical word to the name of the division
I mean, that is essentially what you do. It's mostly because everything gets broken down because there are so many teams. Like the vanarama national league north and south. If it was just one division they'd have 40+ teams. And that is only going down 5 levels.
I know this isn't a 7 list but can you fo a best club in every county thanks :)
I'd always thought that Corinthians (UK) were one of the oldest. I guess not. 🤔
late 1880s. No longer existing anyway, the merged with Casuals FC.
There is evidence Chesterfield were formed at least as early as 1863
I'm now a Cambridge and Tottenham fan.-)
I'm still a Stoke fan.
imagine being an organised club formed years before any other club. what you gonna do before the other teams started.
Be the best in the world
The team pictured at 5:58 is not Sheffield FC but Sheffield United FC and the large gentleman on the front row is Fatty Foulke. Check out his Wikipedia page, it uses the same photo.
I am just wondering who did the oldest club play against until the second oldest club was formed. Vs random guys?
Watch again - he tells you.
You need to update ... Palace have proved the link to the earlier club .... same ground same owners .... keep playing cricket but couldn't do football until the new football ground was built but did play friendly games..
There's only one team missing here 😉 that's Crystal Palace, but because this video was made prior to our announcement I'll let you off 👍
Melbourne Football Club was established in 1858.
Do Current 1 man national teams, with 1 amazing players and the others kinda or very bad.
Would definitely put Chatvetadze and Georgia on this list

Wanderers est. 1859? although reformed in 2009, still considered the same club)
You need to change your videos name to Oldest Association Football Clubs. Australia has Melbourne Football Club Est 1957 but Australian Rules Football is played.
1858.
@@pauljarvis446, which is funny because when I was a kid I had a poster that said 1856. Geelong was the same. 40 years later maybe they have all agreed on a year.

Crystal Palace are now proved to be the worlds oldest football club.
Early gang where u at
I was about to put a disclaimer for myself saying if I didn’t see anything about Sheffield or Sheffield fc I’d be fuming, 10 seconds in and we good fam.
well crystal palace are now apparently the oldest professional football club.
Notts County is NOT the oldest 'football' Profesional football club in the world.
It's actually Melbourne FC, based in Australia who were formed in 1858
Wrong sport mate.
@@michealflaithbheartaigh4139
To avoid confusion it should be called by its correct name, Association Football.
@@michealflaithbheartaigh4139 then Sheffield FC should not be on this list either since they were playing something closer Aussie or Gaelic rules
And the fsct that Australian Football rules was codified before association football
Wrong, you need to read the Sheffield rules, they made the civilized game you see today.@@downnice95
How can an Australian club be the oldest club in the world? Football started in England.
Do a best Nordic clubs of all time
Stoke City were founded in 1903ish. The stock Ramblers were founded in 63 and folded to make Stoke City, so although holding the name Stoke, they are not the eldest.
