if you didn't already know, the engine is a 4-53 and the oil to use is strait 40w. They say multigrade pils like 15w40 will cause damage of some form. But, logically speaking the wrong oil is better than no oil .
The machine has a lot of "experience" but is absolutely worth $3K!! A little "trick" you may already know to minimize damage to the ground when turning: Lower the bucket, lifting the front tracks a bit, rotate the doghouse while turning 1 track. Helps in tight spots, on rough terrain, wear and tear on the machine, etc. Doesn't hurt that it's fun and looks cool too. ;-)

I like your runway project. I think you are going to need a second You Tube channel to document your repairs on the old P&H. Be prepared to always be down. Just trying to honest. Can’t wait for some real progress. 👍
Yeah… the old P&H will probably need some issues addressed. Hopefully nothing more than hoses for awhile! 3 of 4 cylinders are rebuilt and taking it pretty easy. (slow moving)
"Paint" any and all exposed and rusted metal like the sprockets, track, etc with used oil. Find everything that needs grease and grease it. Make sure the pins get it, etc. A broken pin will stop that project for a while as they are a pain in the ass to remove and replace.
This really shouldn't need an electric fuel pump as it is gravity fed. Spraying ether like that probably isn't doing much. I would hold the starter on and give it a shot of spray at the intake while cranking. With my P&H i would have to do a heavy shot down the intake tube. But, after getting a good battery where the cranking rpm is good I haven't needed ether.
The pump was installed by the previous owner, so I’ve normally used it just for starting. But it’s started before without it fine, so yeah probably it’s not much needed.
@Blaircraft.Engines there is a mechanical pump on the back. If the mechanical pump failed, that's why he installed the fuel pump. Also, the ether probably isn't doing anyway as they are an oil bath intake.
The gages are powered through a pressure switch on the engine. The power comes from the starter hot lug, to the pressure switch. Why an excavator and not a front loader with a back hoe on it? It seems to me a bucket loader would be much more useful for moving large quantities of earth and leveling things, plus you'd still have the back hoe for the trenching, hole digging, heavy lifting, and what not.
My father in law actually suggested and good size excavator for pushing the larger trees and moving the stumps. He also has a good size dozer that I’ll be able to use for leveling things out. Good question though!
@@Blaircraft.Engines oh yes that makes sense. I have heard that an excavator with a 6 way blade is the best thing for leveling out a road or driveway or in this case a runway

the big lever next to the seat is a clutch to disengage the pumps. The lever on mine moves, but the clutch is stuck on.
That makes since, the previous owner never moved it. Not sure why you would ever want to disengage the pumps.

You need to put a manual thumb on that, it will help you to pick up trees to move or cut up, brush. Just put one on when you have new teeth welded on
