But I was hunting in Colorado once and a lot of farmers out there let their cattle roam around in the mountains during the nicer months. I was hiking down off a ridge and ran into a calf and her mom, and that big bitch started stamping and false charging as soon as I got within fifty feet of them. People always mais that kind of comparisation to dogs because they were taught that dogs are sweet and lovable and the rest food, but that’s a cultural thing. All animals are wonderful.
Highland cows are just Like That apparently; one stuck its head in my tent once during the night, after slipping out of a nearby paddock, and I was terrified it would rip up the topsheet, so I just kinda patted its head for a minute and slowly pushed it out until it was completely free and it just... left? They’re just big babies who want affection. Edit; they came back yesterday while I was trying to pack up, I was almost getting bonked off the ladder up to our top box bc they just want attention
Nope. The mom is coming over to make sure the calf is ok. You normally never approach a calf if the mom is near. She will knock you on your butt and those horns are dangerous!
So am I the only one, or does that mom also wish to be pet? That cow absolutely looks like a sweet heart. Edit: I'm very happy that 1k people agree that both of those cows deserve pets.

Yep! Especially since, according to farmers, cows aren't good parents. I'm pretty sure that adult saw the calf (for all I know those cows aren't related) getting pets and decided she'd see if the guy was passing them out like straw.
I’ve been around all types of cattle in my 61+ years and Highland calves are the absolute cutest of all cattle breeds in my opinion. I’m usually partial to Holstein cattle because I grew up on a dairy farm and that’s the breed we milked. But the Highland calves are by far the cutest, followed by Angus calves, and then Holstein calves. I guess I think Highland and Angus calves are the cutest because they are smaller, and the Highland calves are so fluffy.
You have no idea how much I agree... it hurts me so much to know this fact... I wish no one would ever hurt an animal, esp dogs and cats... Poor babies 😢
Yes when the video said mom check up on calf I didn't expect to see horns I am a city guy and do know their are different breeds but yes those horns are no joke
It’s the same thing with dogs too. I tend to stick my hand out like a handshake and usually the dog would realize I’m just vibing out and not much of a threat.

This is why I always carried 3 or 4 ears of corn with me when I was checking calves. If I'm checking calves (dry, umbilical cord healed, feet hardened) and momma comes over to check you've got something to give to her to make her think you handling the calf is a good thing.
@Michael Adam that sounds cool, I'm thinking of raising a family like that. Of course wool is nice during the winter haha. If you have reading material or article explaining I'd be interested in learning more from history.
Without the horns they can do a lot of damage. Humans perceptions of what is or isn't dangerous is very low hence why we get killed easily. That cow wouldn't have any issue with killing that man with or without horns.

My Opa has raised his herd of Chiangus for over 50 years, most from birth. When a new calf is born they bring them to my Opa to introduce it… that’s how much they love and trust him. I’ve ridden on the back of his bulls (Hans, Fritz, Johan and Sylvester) around the pasture since I was little. They are just sweet gentle giants. It’s hilarious to watch potential buyers faces when we just walk into the bull pasture and the bulls come to greet us… imagine 20 something young bulls running up and surrounding us… really the only problem we face is getting them to stop licking us and begging for scratches😂😂😂
@@camerongist2159 yes! They feel like large wet sandpaper rubbing against you, but they’re really gentle. Its probably material with bits wire so that electricity can run though it( like a small electric shock when you touch it). They have to be like that so then you can move around the boundries (for grazing ect)
IIRC those fences have enough electricity running through them to be "mildly uncomfortable" to cows and horses and similar, but easily enough to put a human in hospital

Well i don't know if this is on a farm but that calf is going to be a fully grown highlander with horns. In my area the herd lives in freedom though there are of course gates and cattle grids to keep them in their natural environment. We never pet the calfs because this might become dangerous when the calf is a fully grown highlander. It’s hilarious to watch potential buyers faces when we just walk into the bull pasture and the bulls come to greet us… imagine 20 something young bulls running up and surrounding us… really the only problem we face is getting them to stop licking us and begging for scratches😂😂😂
