One thing to look out for is the method of making your payment. I had a secured card from First progress, and their method of paying it off was HORRRIBLE! You had use bill pay, only on certain days of the month. Ilthere was no “pay now with your debit card” button. It’s like they want to punish you extra for not having good credit. Just something to think about.

I have this card as well. My worst card, but if you call customer service then you can pay from your checking account over the phone. This can be as many times as you want during the month. But there is a $ 10.00 fee per phone payment request. I only use this if I have no choice.

ive got rejected for every card since i got my discover, i think it's because i only have about a year of credit history even though i have a 780, it's just annoying because they want my credit accounts to have time to age but waiting 2 years everytime to get a card will constantly be dropping my average and my credit score, they really don't want you playing their game

It was many years ago, probably in the early 90's. They sent the offer to me through the mail, so I sent it back to them, & they sent me the card. At the time I didn't have a clue about credit scores & such . I'm not even sure they were a thing back then.....Sorry.....

I literally can’t get a card at all I tried paying the 200$ and they denied me before I could .
I see some people saying to not get a secured credit card when u can get unsecured credit card. Well about more than half the time with no credit score, no credit, to bad credit you will not qualify for a unsecured credit card. So most people in those 3 categories usually start off with a secured credit card and I'm sure most of the banks will let you put more than their required deposit so you will have a little more to spend on the card each month.
Yea but when you understand age of history it will tank it because they average the time so if you only have one till you build credit then get 2 more your age of history is gonna tank which isn’t good you might as well go with credit cards that are unsecured and brands that aren’t very popular better than nothing and investing your money

A debit card does not go towards your credit in order for you to obtain & build credit. That’s the point of a credit card.

15% of your credit score is age of credit so longer you keep a credit card open the better. Most people that have a excellent credit score got it because they keep accounts open for 7 years or more. For example some people it takes 18 months to get there score to the way they want it. In my opinion they should keep that secured card open and just use it once in a while and get a second credit card. But lots of secured cards comes with no rewards, so I understand why people cancel them. For me having an account open for 18 months I would keep it open.
I’ve seen bad reviews for the open sky card
They seem to be good with me. Annual rate is pretty pricey for me but considering I've got two charged off cards it's all I could do. I've got two cards now. Keep utilization at 9%. From the high 400s to now reaching 600 within a year.
I have it, the only negative things about it

Plus.... if it’s a closed checking account or an old credit card.... if you stopped paying your minimum then.... FEES exist.
If it’s an eviction depends on what kind of rental lease you had. Personal landlords VS, inc & Corp..... those are harder to get rid of AND can go in your background.
Medical- goes on your collections.
Old phone account notices, they go on your record. Especially if you started a plan that included a free phone.... NEED TO TEAD THE CONTRACT then to see what terminates it and at WHAT point you’d need to pay for the phone.
Really about being responsible about your bills (excluding medical)

No. That's just your credit limit so you have up to $200 to spend on your card. Just make sure you pay your balance in full before your monthly due date. And leave a small balance only like $10 a few days before your statement comes out. The credit card company will report your balance and info to the credit bureaus soon after the statement comes out and you want a small less than 10% utilization showing. So if you have let's say a $10 balance that's a 5% utilization which is good. You're credit score will go up when the credit bureaus see that. If you have a $100 balance right before the statement comes out and the credit card company reports that to the 3 credit bureaus, that's a 50% utilization which is bad and your score will go down.

Debt to income ratio might be to high, try paying twice the amount before the payment date.
You also want to stay below 30% of your limit.

I was an in with a bank that graduates to unsecured. I have Discover and Cap One. Already graduated. I need something else but my credit utilization is really high right now. I think I need to just pay it down awhile and then reapply for something better in two or three months. Grrrrrrr! I hate to have to wait before I can increase my available credit. But I'd rather not get secured cards that you must close to get your deposit back.

In Canada except for new brunswick and Saskatchewan. Easiest secured card to get with no job and filed for bankruptcy in the past is Refresh finacial.

Check to see if it was deleted from all 3 credit bureaus. Sometimes it comes off and then goes right back if you’re not watching it.
