"Its already been done but not in a 928" Jeff, dude, you got some big kahones venturing this route with the Porsche. I'll be definitely monitoring this transplant. Keep up the great work.
Concur. But then I'd take no risk, challenge, or chance. I may regret the direction, or be super happy in the end. Either way, I'm going to get an education.
@@ThrottleGrotto I’m all for it. It’s an interesting motor. Doing it to do it versus you can’t get the 928 motor to run right are two different things. I’m about to pull my 928 motor and re seal it but I kinda like the motor. However, in my 944 I’m looking to do a swap, and not LS…something closer to home.
Just rebuild the original engine....will be cheaper in the long run.......and sound like it should!..... Plus putting a different engine in it can change the handling characteristics.....no longer 50/50!..... Something to keep in mind........not a fan of doing this, but I'm following the progress. Good luck!
Not a fan. I always recommend to people who buy older cars to understand one very important thing. If you dont do it right from the start, it will NEVER run the way you hope. When i saw the way you were prepping the engine, i was confident it wasn't going to end well. This is no surprise to me. These cars are old! One must assume everything potentially needs to be replaced. Everything needs to be inspected, too. First and foremost, everything in the engine bay hss to be gone over with a fine-tooth comb and 100% before moving to the rest of the car. I think you're making another mistake. Just being honest.
I’ll be interested in to see your “all in” $ total for this one. Agreed that this engine has a glorious exhaust note. I’m very curious to watch your progress on this swap. Good luck!
+10pts for a unique swap. I love the Maserati engine, love the corvette suspension, but you're brave or stupid mixing german electronics, iltalian eletricals and adding the driveline for complexity. New subscriber ftw!
Wow man. This is going to be monumental. What are you going to use for your mounts? Aluminum? I wonder if there is a way to have the motor sit a little lower?
I'll have to sit the engine fairly low. Not sure what I'll use for the mounts, probably steel since the f136 is 150~lbs lighter. Have some room for weight addition.
This one is the wet sump engine. I considered a dry sump for pan clearance, but room for the tank is sparse in the 928 bay. This one should fit pretty well with some custom parts 🤞
@ThrottleGrotto there is another youtuber who remote mounted the dry sump reservoir in the cab of a drift car. Very janky setup, I thought. Made it prone to flood the block with oil. He put a manually operated valve to keep the oil in the reservoir after shut off. It will probably be ok for a motorsport setup. I think you made the correct choice. I am very excited for your build. It is the best sounding v8. I think you will be very satisfied with the results. Good luck!
By the time you do all this Maserati crap to the beemer...AND swap in a 'Vette driveline....you coulda done 19 other, cheaper, easier swaps and saved yourself a HUUUUGE amount of BS and had a saleable item in the end....as it is.....aint NOBODY gonna want to dig into THAT mess
You're correct. But, I would have never taken the risk, pushed myself into a new level of knowledge, or gone out of my comfort zone. This isn't about saleable at this point. It's about pushing myself and my limits. And finding out what's possible, and putting it all on display so we all can learn and share how to make it work. Maybe it's a terrible idea, but it's gonna be fun if it all works out

there's been some freakout moments already this week. I'm sure those will get less as the components are sourced.
Probably could have done a lot to the 928 motor for $2500…complete rebuild, head work, cams, etc.
Concur. But then I'd take no risk, challenge, or chance. I may regret the direction, or be super happy in the end. Either way, I'm going to get an education.

You of all people can make that happen! Looking forward to this project!!
I might be able to!!!
I'll come by next year and see how your work is going.
😁 hopefully it's made good progress by then!

Project Deutschitaliener! Hoo boy - strap in, we are in for a ride! 😁

Looks like a fun build . You better still have the rabbit
Rabbit is still here. Got some things coming for it too
Points for an unusual engine swap! If you complete it, you'll be a legend. BTW, I spy the Rabbit in the background. Any updates on that :)
Been working on the rabbit a little bit this week too. I'll try and get an update video on it soon

I'll try and be as transparent as I can and keep the community updated as I go
It's not stupid, just a mental deviance. Welcome to the club
Great project 🙂
Brave man!
Brave is an understatement

I am definitely less on the brave side of your equation!
I've wanted to swap a ford coyote V8 into a 928. Did you ever consider that engine?
I did consider that, but the cost was higher for the coyote engine, and I wasn't entirely sure if it would fit
interesting, challenging and stupid:) good luck - you will need it
Oh, incredibly stupid. I will definitely be challenged

Oh dear lordy
2008 I believe there were both dry sump and wet sump variants.. which one is this?

No mufflers at redline please. .
The thoughts of cutouts crossed my mind
😂 you got this 🎉
I hope so. It's big.
Not a fan of frankenporsches. You lost me there but good luck.
