- Is it worth it putting liquid metal on a Reference design Vega 56?
It is well known that the HBM2 memory's thermal problem affects performance on both mining and gaming.
Will this simple option increase its possible performance?
Lets find out.

Put clear nail polish around the GPU die to prevent shorts. Liquid metal also needs to be spread onto the heatsink. It doesn't work properly if it's only on the GPU die.
Can i use termal paste to protect the die?
nail polish will break down over time. if you keep ur card for awhile you will major regret it. you can buy the real stuff for like 10-15 a bottle.
you know they make small screwdrivers right ? lol
Son of a Tech Yeah i do 🤣
Sad how money can buy you everything but cant buy knowledge how to unscrew passive block. and also settings needed to not burn down vega. Those temperatures are awfull, especialy because you use wrong settings for mining, not because of bad paste or bad cooling.. Someone whos gonna buy used gpus from guys like you is buying half dead one. And there are lots of ppl like that. Sad world for gpus..
I purposely set the graphics cards settings wrong to get high temperatures, then i added the liquid metal to only monitor temperature difference, it has nothing to do with what you just said..?
well if you look at gpu you can see it has increased around 200mhz!! thats why the temperature dint drop that much. try running both tests with same power limit and you will a difference.
This just shows that the reference cooler can't get rid of the heat. LM on aib Vega 64s do show gains.
Matthew Bishop just applied a good amount on my Limited Edition and no temp difference. I guess the stock blower style cooler does suck.
Thanks for the try and saving money!
Do you also have to replace the thermal pads?
Hey, you can desassemble the top of the cooler 6 small screws, on mine the fins we completely blocked by dust, so the change of paste did not affect much the temp.
Nice vidéos !
The fan was not able to push air through the fins, i needed to clean them.
Sorry for my bad english.
Maybe that is also a cause to it yea!
what cam have u used for this video? great zoom and quallity
Don't use a knife, do you want me to buy you s set of screw drivers? WOW.
Thanks
I just applied Conductonaut to my LE edition and see no temperature difference :(
I did apply the LM to the vega die, hbm and the copper cooler as well, and applied a good amount, with nail polish to the surroundings and all. I thought I did something wrong but im pretty sure that’s just as much as I can get out of the stock blower cooler.
In the case of GPUs I think it's best to use thermal paste (and lots of it) because it's direct die cooling. Liquid metal forms a thinner layer and the cooler mounting pressure isn't enough to make good, proper contact.
So basically cake the thing with thermal paste and bolt that cooler down with enough pressure to squish a bit of paste out
Look at your clock speed after LM. There might be no temp drop because your gpu clocks are boosting higher so it cancels the temp advantage. You can also see the improvement on your benchmark scores if it does boost higher.
Hi, what software you used to check the GPU and HBM2 temperatures?
GPU-Z
never understood why people combine stock coolers with LM... o.O???
Like how it looks / don't wanna buy a water loop
Please send me the name of the intro track
Liquid metal is better to apply on a delided chip versus directly on the heat spreaders just saying
GPU Chips have no lid. XD
Yea? I'm saying that liquid metal is better on delided chips? And also Vega HBM typically has a height difference from the GPU it self, typically you see more thermal paste over the HBM versus the GPU for contact over the cold plate of the heat sink.
Also GPU do has an IHS it's soldered on
@@NotQuiteAsianOG Just nope... it has silicon as thermal interface material. Please don't spread missinformation.
anyone tried with sapphire nitro+ ??
I have used Liquid Metal on my laptop and Liquid Metal killed my motherbord on my laptop one year later gg
Yeah you have to be carefull not to use too much, and there is a way to protect it even better, you can use thermal paste or nail polish and make a very small layer of that over all the components next to it, the metal wont be able to short it after that!
@@BuriedOne funny thing is I have droped my laptop manny times xD and I did not use so much Liquid metal.
we are going to the question, it is the liquid metal, so I have the same vega 56 and coolaboratory liquid ultra, I still do not understand English well: p
wtf, why the knife!?
Submerge card into mineral oil..... maybe.... there is some special fluids for submerged electronics cooling.... manufacturer is 3M if i can remember correctly.
LBi Guy Yes, 3M Novec
Very Interesting a submerged pc would look sick sadly the Fluid is fucking Expensive
Knifee ! xD
Arion Denis Andrei My srewdriver set didnt arrive untill today xd
I actually cut myself during the making of this video 😅
You cut your self which is bad ofc but the vega was screaming when you used that knife "in" it xD . Hopefully you won't cut your self anymore :D !
Wow very nice..... :) ;)
HBM is lower than the GPU? might not be making full contact with the heatsink. terrible video
Wayyyy too much liquid metal.
