How I love a steam engine wish we had never lost them nostalgic
They're not all lost, just fewer in number and we appreciate seeing them more.
When was the last time you saw a diesel haul 9 carriages through there? That's what always gets me.
Missed this one sadly, when’s the next?
Great to see this masterpiece thundering along without any diesel loco assistance on the down line.
The diesel does not provide assistance other than additional electric supply if more than one kitchen car and to haul the carriages out of a terminus if no local locomotive available. It will then haul them around a reversing loop back into the terminus. The steam loco following if no local turntable after coaling and watering. Also adds weight and additional braking to minimise any shunting and jerks between carriages still using old screw couplings.
