Come On Lawrie let's crowd fund for your 3rd Ruston 😂
Yeah let's do it
you beat me to it - lets do it
Yes
Yes, come on, do it!
Yes
i can tell Lawrie wants that little 0-4-0.... Cmon Lawrie.... Start another Go fund me or what ever, we will help you save that little steamer.
No I want it! I'll bring it to Florida and bring back the Florida West Coast Railroad and restore it to its former glory
@@AverageJailBreakEnjoyer you know what happened the last time a British tank engine came to the states?
Look up the Flying Dutchess
@@HeavyTanker-vx4oq Dear god what happened
@@AverageJailBreakEnjoyer To be honest, I would like to bring a Class 60 to Florida in the future and run it on a private line I would have. If only I had all the needed money. I would do engineer/driver experience days for the public.
@@BritishRail60062 so true. If I could, I would make my own Live steam railroad
QUICK! Give Lawrie views so he can buy the Ruston or the steam engine!
If it goes to scrap crowd fund to save it
I hope those engines and peices of rolling stock find homes, none of them deserve to be scrapped.

Next time on LMM
So I bought a third Ruston…
that, or "So guys...I bought an Avonside..."
MK3 sleepers ran here in Denmark. Probably the only British passenger rollstock that was used here.
Back in the 1980's DSB only had couchette cars but wanted to offer a more comfortable service on their night trains, yet also saw the end comming for them as the great belt bridge would be build reducing travel time to the point where sleeper trains would be unviable, hence it did not pay to buy new sleepers, They found out the UK had surplus MK3 sleepers, bought a few and had them painted in the Danish sleeper livery of the time with red middle section and dark blue night sky painted across the remainder of the body.
The Colne Valley is a very special Railway to me by and my family. When it oldest son was at his sutistic worst, this wonderful Railway welcomed him weekend after weekend. We always felt welcomed and able to enjoy. Ourselves without looking over our shoulders. I wish the CVR all the best. May you grow and prosper.
you should buy the 165 lawrie!
its a shame they are for sale but its a bigger shame i cant afford any of it
We gotta buy the 165! Time for triple Rustons! I’d donate for sure
Wellll… i do love trains. And most certainly would love to have my own, buttttttt. No room. No place no nothing☹️☹️☹️. This one’s for you Lawrie👍🏽👍🏽
Lawrie, you are the Ruston man.... you know what needs to happen.
Here in the US, I actually had a plan that fell through to buy a classic pullman dome car. and have it moved to my property to live in it. I was going to have a UP train pick it up in Southern Cali. Move up the UP mainline, to the Albany & Eastern railway which is about 1/4 mile from my property. From there it's a relatively easy move via truck. As a rail enthusiast, i wanted it to remain as original as possible. Setting it on a set of tracks i had started placing. I already had water, power, and sewer at the site. Problem was that UP would require me to upgrade the brakes, wiring and electrical, trucks and bearings to modern standards before they would hook up to it. And if i'm going to do all of that work to it, why take it off the rails? Further problem is with the neighbors, they have no problem with me living in a disused automotive shop, but having a beautiful art deco chrome railcar placed where they can't even see it was going too far apparently (i have many acres of property). They fought tooth and nail to block me from putting it on my own property.
Smell that freedom? No? Yeah, that's been stolen just like everything else here.
Can we crowd fund Lawrie to get the industrial saddle tank engine + a retube and boiler certification?
British Sugar must have purchased a load of those Ruston 165's as I believe the two at the Severn Valley Railway also came from the nearby Sugar Beet factory in Kidderminster.
Whoever buys the one at the Colne Valley, it if they tidy it up it will look great. Plus it would be ideal for small preserved railways for passenger services, light freight services or shunting.
The steam locomotive is definitely a great little locomotive for the Colne Valley or likewise.
There is also an ex British Sugar R&H 165 at the Derwent Valley Light Railway.
Ruston 165 at the Nene Valley too, I believe.
If I had the money, I would literally move to Britain and buy that tank engine, no questions asked! 😉
Nice to know that money grubbers are not just in the states , the property owner I think came on hard times and saw a bag of money to be collected and or a way to get they off the land
The land owner has probably found out it's possible to get planning permission to build houses or industrial building on the land plot which raises the value of the land dramatically - more so with houses.
We have a huge housing shortage in the UK.
As much as I hate seeing heritage engineering getting scrapped you can't blame someone for trying to get the maximum return on their assets. It's just business.
The Derwent Valley railway in York seems like an ideal home for that Ruston!
I live about 2 miles from where the Ruston would've worked. Just outside of Kings Lynn. Great bit of nostalgia seeing it and hope it finds a sympathetic new owner (hopefully yourself) who'll safeguard it's future.
It would be awesome to see that little steamer working again.
The little avonside loco Barrington is so cute. 15 grand for something like that ain't bad either, thats cheaper than most electric cars, and having something like that would surely be great. I am definitely thinking you should buy it if you have/had the money
It sounds like a reasonably reliable piece of kit, And isn’t the steam locomotive a little Andrew Barclay? Looks a lovely little locomotive for a heritage railway.
Hi, It's an Avonside, the slightly lesser-known Bristol based rivals of Peckett. The 'good will' and intelectual property/design rights went to Hunslet, the same as Barclay's did though.
There's the story two Salesmen from the Bristol rivals, Avonside and Peckett, somehow met and got chatting, and mention was made by one of an odd bloke in the design team - who'd then recently retired - who only came into the office at lunchtime, then worked _very_ late into the evening. The response from the other Salesman was to the effect of, "That's odd, we never understood why he started in the small hours of the morning and only worked until lunchtime!"
Would probably fit in quite well at somewhere like the Tanfield.
The avonside tank looks a good deal, might have a look into it cause it looks promising when restored. I think I have a contact who might like to save the Ruston but if you get this Ruston we can dub you the king of Ruston’s
Tell them to buy the flying Scotsman whenever it is for sale
@@Canadiansteamer43 Flyingscotsman is never going to be sold.
That horse box would make an awesome home office if you just happen to live in an old station!
I couldn't imagine the little 040 would actually get scrapped. It certainly seems like something that'll find a home. The Ruston is a little trickier. It could certainly get a good home but it needs a railway that doesn't already have something of that class in service or needs another. Since it's got some issues buying it would be a bit of a gamble. If the gearbox is fine it could be a great purchase. If the gearbox and drivetrain isn't fine it would turn into a moneypit right quick.
The generator van too will probably find a home. As lawrie says, it's a useful thing.
The sleeping coach... I have a sinking feeling it's the most likely thing to end up scrapped. Just too much hastle for a preservation group to handle I think. Maybe they can find some entrepreneurial type to turn it into an BnB somewhere?
The little tank engine it's one of my heart over
Lawrie has always said he wanted a Barclay...when does the funding start. I'll drop $100.
Wish I lived in a old station that sleeper car would look awesome sat on the platform hope it all finds a good home soon
Had I had bought Haddiscoe High Level when it was up for sale a few years ago I'd have had this like a shot !
Well done to whoever saved the 165.
What a great video idea and I would love to see more!!!! I'm very surprised that those coaches havnt been snapped up!
I'm depressed I can't give any full-sized stock a home but I will be sharing this, and hoping they'll all find nice homes
If I had it I'd buy the saddle tank and the horse box, for use as a horse box, when my mare grows up she would travel seabiscuit style!! 😍😍
Shame the national railway museum haven't bought them. But surely you or someone else could crowdfund for the little diesel and 040 and get them restored. Honestly the site if they appealed for help I'm sure that there could be some companies to help with building some more sidings and storage facilities to protect the trains and wagons whilst they get restored even if it's just concrete foundations and a metal building frame and steel sheet walls and roof. If I won the lottery I'd have it all hahaha. Get it restored and working again. The sleeper carriage doesn't need to remain a sleeper either. Have it converted to a normal carriage.
That mk3 would make a great portable home
Or just a home in general.
and as we know old rolling stock has a history of being converted into a house and then converted back.
a sleeper is perfect, just needs power and water then it's sorted.
I want that steam loco! Let’s crowd fund!
If you want to do more historic rollstock brokering, feel free to come to Denmark and help find a new owner for Skagensbanen M1 which is now lingering outside of Gedser Roundhouse. It is a rare Maybach railmotor of which few if any are preserved anywhere. It was in running order untill it was unprofessionally moved in the 1980's which destroyed its side-rods because someone forgot to disengage the gearbox when dragging it with a locomotive from one location to another. It would be a travesty to see such a rare one of a kind historic vehicle be scrapped, and if it could come up and running it would be an excellent vehicle for small excursions or a start up heritage operation.
Come Lawrire make the dream come true and save that little 0-4-0 saddle tank
best advertising video ever :)
When you hear your self sighing, if only I had the money. :/ the small steam engine looks really nice. If I had the money to I think that would be what I'd go for ahah
Congrats on 100k subscribers
I remember the sleeper coach coming here and that generator coach on Dick Hymas's dining trains.
COME ON LAWRIE !!!
10 pound and a big mac meal for that Final offer
Unfortunately nothing I can do from the US. Also surprised you didn't go for the tank engine yourself
Hi Lawrence, russ here with yellow zr. We spoke at donny. I've passed this video to a mate who is involved with a railway that operates several Rustons to see if he knows of anyone that may want the 165
I’d prob buy that 0.4.0 steam engine if I was lucky enough. But the fact the Ruston starts and sort of runs is also interesting. Maybe if i had a farm and set up like at mangapps farm railway they’d be ideal
Do you know if any progress has been made with D2046 there? I volunteer at the railway it was previously at!
If I had a railway to run on I would probably go for the Ruston.
Or ideally Skagensbanen M1 which Gedser roundhouse seems to want to get rid off.
Oooooh! Driven that Ruston when we were at County School.....
I didn't know it worked there, or there was enough track there for anything to run.
I REALY WANT TO GET THE STEAM ENGINE!!!
The sleeping car doesn't necessarily have to be used for sleeping per se, it could be used for any number of chores. It is such a nice clean looking vehicle even in this forlorn state.
I saw a short video on TH-cam a few days ago where a sleeper was off loaded straight into the scrapyard and it looked in a slightly better condition than this. Unfortunately they can't all be saved.
Some organisation with deep pockets may have a soft spot for what they see here and come to the rescue. Fingers crossed.
It's time for a bigger shed!!!
If I could afford them, I'd love to have either of the locomotives! They're the sort of ones that'd definitely be amazing to run on a McAlpine-esque private railway.
Oooooooooo tempting
Please, please set up a fundraiser to let us help you buy the steam loco!!
You should go on a scrap drive and buy the Avonside. Surely one fire engine is enough?
Ah man, if I had 15k I would totally snap up Barrington! She's a lovely little engine! I love little Avonside's and Peckett's!
Ah yes, good old Mk1 rot! I remember going to Midsomer Norton back in November and noticing two rather sizeable holes in the bodywork of one of their Mk1s! I'm surprised they haven't sent it off to CTMS for some remedial work tbh!
Do you think, I could buy No 1875, because I'm saving up and getting older
Go on get it
Lawrie going shopping again
yeah that mk3 has seen better days lol
Nice Dieselsound and Video
Thank you
Lawrie's Light Railway :3
It's definitely heading in that direction, isn't it. But how cool it would be if he was to run one! There'd be loads of volunteers.
2 stroke antique gloss on maintain Nance on u 2 good luk on u
🎉
It be cool if the Housebox coach would be restored as a traveling escape room. Imagine riding it while solving the puzzles before reaching point B.
That's an idea
I call dibs on Avonside!
Well I was gonna save up £3K for a beast of a laptop (my current 10YO one is struggling!) but for an extra quid I'd be tempted, just need somewhere to put it!
I would say the Landlord of the heritage site is the Grim Reaper of old locomotives, but that nic-name goes to Beaching.
Times like this I seriously wish my Euro millions would come up!!!! Damm Universe!
Me too
often day-dreamed about buying a coach & turning it into a house ( and a baggage train as a shed )
If only I had the money. You could buy it Laurie when you get it running you could always sell it again? To save it?
The Mk1 horsebox could easily be converted into a nice disabled access coach
That would be a great use for it
Ashville likes his trains, he might have some use of these items in his yard. Might be worth sending him a message
Good luck on getting access to this railway. I called today and spoke to a person in the ticket office/shop. I asked if I could go and take a photo of the signal box. Oh no, said Job's Worth. "There men working on the railway." Fair do's. The railway was closed but Job's Worth's attitude contrasted with the attitude of staff at many other heritage railways I have visited. Usually I find that staff are only too willing to be helpful. On one occasion, a volunteer accompanied me down about a quarter of mile of track so that I could get a photo of a signal box. Incidentally, I had contacted the CVR before my visit but got no reply. Nor is there any information on their webpage as to the days when they are open.
I'm sorry to hear that. When I visited - with prior arrangement - they could not have been nicer or more helpful.
The manly urge to buy a locomotive and start a railway
You should buy the steam train.
£15,000 for a loco sounds pretty good ngl
Hope the diesel and the tank engine get restored in future. 😊
NGL very tempted to make offer on sleeper carage however gonna be a mare to move
Probably worth a discussion if you are serious. I think we may have a cheaper way to get it out. Paul, Chair, CVR
neat locos for sale I hope somebody buys them
Me too
LAWRIE trust me, i would like to see running the steam locomotive 0-6-0 tank engine to bring back to life in operation ☺️
Hmm do you think my missus will be happy if I move from n gauge to Standard?
Like everyone here I would love at least one of these items - the horsebox for me - but they would need to knock a zero of the end before I could even considered it unfortunately.
Think it includes the big generator inside. If you want it without, I am sure that could be open to negotiation, Paul, Chair, CVR
Laurie please set up your own locomotive restoration company and buy both Locos you will need to employ some full-time workers but we can chip in to help with a bit of time and cash, even though I would love to buy the Avonside I have so much to do already it would just sit there and deteriorate even more. But then the Ruston looks like a good buy as well and would be a very useful engine to have.
Don't think the shed has enough space for that yet...
Lawrie you should put a go fund me for both the ruston and 040 then you have more engines plus the railway would be happy to help you fix them go for it you only live once
Your at a railway auction, hehehe me thinks it could be some new videos coming out with I accidently brought .... as a title.
Come on Lawrie, crowd fund a steam engine. Let's gooooo
Hey Lawrie, are you able to pass any ideas/suggestions over to the Colne Valley Railway?
I know there's a carriage & wagon holiday let down near the Kent & East Sussex Railway, and it could be worth getting in contact with them
Let’s crowdfund these locos
than goodness i have 00 gauge rolling stock. hope all goes well
How much are they asking for the Avonside?
Buy the 165
Lawrie how much is the Ruston? I woud like to buy it if i can get the funds
It would be a great buy. If you look at the similar Ruston at the Severn Valley Railway in the Bewdley yard they do look good restored both internally and externally.
Considering it would go to the scrap yard, probably scap value and a promise of restoration is enough
This is why I wish I could win the lottery.
god if I was even remotely in the same country and could anywhere near afford it I would snap up the steam loco in a heartbeat
i hope someone saves the mk3 sleeping coach
about 20 grand for a potential new house right ere.
long as one has somewhere to put it...
Free shipping ?
To Vancouver Canada.
What would the scrap value be for the Ruston?
Good question.
Supposedly they weigh about 28t, and the first source I found online suggested steel scrap in the UK is going for about £200 per ton, so around £5600?
@@BrooksMoses soo around 6-10 grand for a potential runner?
shame thats out of my budget. Though that is very good.
Right then who’s buying what 👀🤣
Hmmmm I might ask my local railway if they would like to buy a sibling to ruston and maybe the Avonside engine 7:01 mainly because they love engines built in Bristol
