    I was stationed at the USAF base at Comiso, Sicily, Italy from 1987 to 1989. The base is listed on the big status board at 23:48, lower left, in yellow. The "GLCM" means it was a ground launched cruise missile base. I worked in Comms. Great video, brought back some memories!

      La Davil Le Rusher There is no misteryes about Cov 2, the origin is the same of all flu virus we fight every year whit vaccination campaigns. The problem is that people move around the world in hours, is a virus hard to fight by the body, and we dont have any cure at the moment. So-> Stay home, clean hands and avoid to touch your face. To be calm is the strongest thing we can do 👍

    It's quite reckless to enter a place like this without oxygen sensors. With all that rust around you can might as well walk in to an area with low oxygen and never walk out of it. Quite common safety hazard inside non-ventilated areas on ships, but can occur even inside buildings. The biggest danger is that while human body can recognize high CO2, it will not recognize low oxygen.

    Immersive and extremely interesting movie but ... you are totally unconscious.
    Some warnings:
    RADON (heavy and radioactive gas, accumulates at the bottom) is often present in the Italian subsoil;
    in unventilated and deep places accumulations (always at the bottom) of carbon dioxide (CO2), odorless gas that causes suffocation are possible;
    without external support / agreed communications / times, it is extremely dangerous (or rather INSANE) to enter.
    Moreover:
    you are not equipped with a radioactivity or gas (oxygen) detector and (I don't even imagine) first aid kit;
    you do not have helmets (anyone with caving experience will be able to confirm their usefulness).
    These are the first things that come to mind.
    Why do you think the structure has been walled up? To defend the scrap metal it contains?
    For the next video, think about it, get informed. You have a life to live in front of you.

Or wear tyvek as one of you did. Also, re-wearing the tyvek means you are carrying the contaminated suit around with you. They are really intended for single use and disposal...
      You could really use a safety person on the outside, with radio links.
      I realize that traveling light enables you to get in and out of some of these(maybe all?) of these sites, but I was thinking what if one of you had a medical during that crawl-in, you really didn't have a good way to rescue them and get out. This stuff is so fascinating, love it. I watch videos like this, and I can't help but think what an unfathomable waste of resources the Cold War was. Don't get me wrong, I am pro-military and understand the need for a strong national defense. Just the Cold War in general was a case study in wasted resources from a build up to a confrontation that never happened.

      Dave B the confrontation never happened in large part because of the resources that had been used to make it unsustainable and unwinnable man, that's hardly a waste. Better spend money than lives IMO. That's the whole point of the doctrine of the Cold War.

    May I make a couple of suggestions though?
    First get and carry a couple of Sensors. CO2, low Oxygen and Radon. They are well worth the cost.
    Second, when crawling through narrow spaces like your entry Tunnel don't push your Packs ahead of you. Instead bring some Cordage along with you. (I like 100 foot lengths.) Attach a Carabiner to one end and attach that to the drag Handle on the Pack. Do your crawl to the exit or to the end of the Cord and then pull the Pack along behind you. (If you really want to be safe attach 2 lines to the Pack. One for you and one for the person following you. They can unstick the Pack if needed.)

      Without high moisture and vandals, that place would be quite well preserved. Although some damage was obviously caused by the soldiers and, I imagine, a civilian contractor removing everything valuable from the place when it was officially closed down. However, the mountain must be full of cracks with water flowing in them, so it was a doomed place. It's hard to imagine it would have been entirely healthy even when the facility was operational. There might have been some employees with stuffy noses and itchy eyes.
