Love how your UK trip with British people instantly descends into getting wrecked together lol What an amazing adventure and an incredible site! I’m honestly so envious of this one Bob - I’m stuck in a fairly boring situation at the moment and the spirit of this video and the good vibes gave me a real boost, so cheers for that!
@Tom: hear! hear! from a 68j NL-man living in DE. These vids make me feel I'm there, without leaving the 'comfort' of my own surroundings: I keep my mind fit with&through the iNet, while keeping my body fit by exercising locally with my dogs (& bike). ;--] hYlkeW
Very cool fort. Fifty years ago I was exploring an abandoned ferry an got so absorbed in the adventure I almost lost the dingy that was tied up to the side when the tide came in.
What a fantastic location!! It's actually remarkably well preserved considering its been abandoned for nearly 100 years - the absence of graffiti is also so refreshing!! Great video guys, well done!!
In 1852, they absolutely had concrete of differing binder compositions. Portland cement was invented in England in 1824 and in regular production by the 1840s. The first reinforced concrete was in 1853. The bricks are likely mortared with it or natural/Roman cement. But this early Portland was very susceptible to attack from sea salt and also expensive to use en masse because production techniques weren't quite as advanced as they are now, so it'd probably have been cheaper and faster to build with brick, not to mention the labor would be more readily available since Portland was so new.
Not an ordinary location. Seems like you had lots of fun during this exploration, which makes the video a real summertime adventure 🙃 Love the visual of the brick walls and green vegetation! Thanks for sharing with us again!🤗
Well it was built to withstand cannon bombardment plus I'm guessing its very difficult to access for people so it hasn't been stripped away and looted like buildings on a mainland. Very cool location for sure
Here in Bermuda we have British forts of the same period. In fact we have one or two that started life in the early 16 hundreds and were continually upgraded until the late 1940s. That makes this fort particularly interesting and familiar in many ways. There are RMLs restored to their original stations in semi-circular installations just as they are there. Brilliant explore, and thank you!
@@midwestmike613 I did some research into Bermuda's military history, from the very beginning. It seems that Bermuda has had a very important strategic position, being some 770 miles from the East Coast of the US. So we became quite heavily fortified against anticipated attacks by, variously, the Spanish, the French, the new United States, Germany, and finally the Soviet Union. This left us with more fortiifications per square inch than anywhere on earth I think lol. As for the British fortifications of the 18th-19th centuries, generally they had installations at the extreme ends of the island, and a few major and minor ones in the middle, being as we're a long, thin island as opposed to more rounded. Quite a few of them have been convert to other uses. Some are museums, others to recreational areas and nature sanctuaries.
The small internal windows would have been glazed on the magazine side and a lantern placed from in the recess from the narrow (light corridor) side that seperated the casements and magazines. This to prevent flame's being taken in to the powder magazine and provided illumination without risk of explosions.
extraordinary building - loved the architecture. was great to watch you guys having so much fun. bet is sucked though first thing in the morning having to be woke up with all those birds making so much noice and having a fat head from the night before. LOL.
Cool place, great to see it and the party looked to be a blast. Many thanks for taking us to these fantastic places. Looking forward to the next one. All the very best.
Thank you very much, we added subtitles and it was a pleasure to watch. And each of your content is unique, it’s difficult to say when answering the question of which content you would like more. your content is all good. Using translator.
Ahh this was when we were in Wales too and I message you you but you'd left already. I was going to visit the fort a couple of years ago with a group but I had to pull out. Andy & Jacques are great lads, I've partied with them more than explored though! 😂 Excellent insight as ever mate, love the use of liquid drum & bass in the edit too! 🙌
This was incredibly special, historical. Can you imagine the sound from those cannons? The smell of gunpowder. Absolutely deafening especially because it is round the sound would have reverberated throughout the fort. I wonder if they ever got to use the canons there. In the early 19th century, they would have had animals, chickens, goats, possibly rabbits for eating. They would have kept livestock and food stocks in case of invasion and not able to resupply for some time. These forts had to be pretty self sufficient.
that's the best one I've seen yet. the possibilities with that place are almost endless. a bag of seeds to plant a garden a rain catchment and one could survive in peace there. 👍👍
Just imagine (without thinking about finances) how cool it would be to be able to purchase one of these Military Bases to live on for you, your friends, and family!
The little windows you find between the magazines are for illumination. They were separate to the main rooms and accessed by Light passages> Suggest if your still in the UK, or thinking of coming back, check out Fort Nelson in Portsmouth. Its part of the Royal Armouries, and its free to enter. They have preserved examples of the 12" RML (Rifled Muzzle Loaders) you saw in the fort
Glad I came across your channel 😊, Im new to exploring so it's great seeing these type of videos and to pick up great tips to help me along the way. I just liked and subscribed x
Supertoffe locatie! 👍🏻😃
Stack Rock Fort, Milford Haven. An amusing & stupid line in the Wiki page "Concerns over the security of a nearby LNG jetty were raised in 2013, following the discovery of potential trespasser activity"
I just watched a video where the fort they were on was made into a hotel for a period of time. Not sure if this is the same one it doesn't look like it but still very impressive to see. I can't imagine building something of this size or working there back in the day. Very Cool to see 👍
Hello my dear friend Bob, another exciting exploration of epic adventures as always looking forward to your next video love old decaying places it makes me wonder how people lived in here 🤗❤ NICE wishing you guys well, good to see Frederick 😊❤
Great job Bob who ever filmed this did an amazing job! Only thing left is the History and seagulls!! I just saw u on the Discovery channel What on Earth on Amazon Season 11 episode #1 ur space shuttle explore! Tv Star!!!😘💜💙💕 Bob!
Thanks Linda😊😊I filmed the drone and beauty shots and Frederik filmed the walkthrough. And thanks for the update. Still have to see all those episodes on Discovery when it’s available in Europe. There will be another one too about a radar and a bunker! 🤩
This fortress looks a lot like IJmuiden Fortress island (same era). The ammunition storage has windows for candles, and a long hallway so you can light the candles. While there was not electricity, and candlelight (or an oil lamp of some sort) was the only light that was down there. So it seems like a waste of space the hallways, but they certainly had a purpose. They could make it into a museum, that is what they did in IJmuiden when in 1996 the entire Defense Line of Amsterdam was put on the UNESCO world heritage list. You can go there by boat 3 times a day on the weekends, on other days they have escape rooms and workshops there. Going out with everyone of the job and have yourself a teambuilding experience sort of deal. The place has potential. Cool trip, i like it a lot. Seagulls are shitty im mobs. As long as they are kept at bay, it should be fine. Greetings, Jeff
12:20 Great video! We know this fort! The alarm in the background confirmed it😉 we live in the local area. We can hear their engines from ashore. We found this video after watching your MV Astor tour! Loving the videos!
@22:33 that wood is to brace the vaulted roof. looks like moss growing & prob water damage weakened the structrue & theyve stred it up by adding the wood to stop any further damage.

Are they abandoned there as well? Or are they used for something other than a sea bird sanctuary?
