The diamond back cover has the feature of folding either panel all the way open, just open the cover remove the gas shock which takes 30 seconds, then fold the panel all the way open remember to strap it down in case wind lifts the panel. Also 1 person can remove the entire cover to open the bed in 7-10 minutes and reinstall with one person in the same amount of time.

I was wondering why they didn't mention this and other features until I noticed the video is made by one of the product developers, as Diamondback owner I just came to see if I'm missing out. I don't feel like I am but the renegade cover is pretty cool 👍🏼

@@saikyouabe Look who posted the video, and it's clear why they tried their hardest to make the Renegade cover look better. For instance; anyone who wants a drop in toolbox in the front of their box can't use the Renegade, because it doesn't open in the front. If you want to open your cover without opening your tail gate you can't. If you don't want all the tie down cleats on the Diamondback you can request them not to be installed, or remove them yourself.
Nah instead the sales guy talks about how the Renegade is smooth, and "doesn't have anything sticking up" as if your ATV could not drive over a 1" lock or 1/2" hinge back.
Lastly when talking about "build quality" he calls the Diamondbacks interrupted welds "tack welds." Anyone with a brain would know those are not tack welds. Interrupted welds are used when welding the full length will provide no more strength to the part. They're also better than full length welds, because if they weld was to ever fail or crack it wouldn't be able to continue past itself. Where a full weld will crack through the entirety of the weld, but hey I am sure the sales man was too focused on making the renegade look bad to notice.
I am curious how water drains from the quick detach hook slots on top. I just see snow and ice getting in there making them useless in the winter.

I was looking at the Renegade vs Diamondback. I liked the features of the Renegade but after some investigation several things made me go with the Diamondback. Cost: (which most people care about). The Renegade, after paying for shipping, was $850 more than the Diamondback. Lead time: the Diamondback had a one month lead time but the Renegade was three months. I didn't expect either of them to keep every size in stock, but three months and more money was a real sticking point. Installation: the Renegade is much more complicated to install, which in and of itself is not a deal breaker, but the more moving parts you have, the easier it is for something to go wrong later. Also, when I was trying to get information about Renegade, I had to email three times and call twice before I got a response... Not good for someone who's looking to buy your product. Everything I've seen and heard about Renegade says it's a good product, I just felt Diamondback was a better deal for me.

I am about to buy a diamondback for my Colorado ZR2 but seen this video and thought Id like the renegade better. Not sure if they make it for my truck, as I typed on their site the vehicle spec and it shows only a 5'6 box which the ZR2 only comes in 5'1 or 6'2 I believe (Im probably wrong though). I also do not know if they ship to Canada, but we'll see. I messaged the company as well so we'll see :) Great video

I just came across this video searching for mods to the diamondback. I just ordered my second one from Diamondback. While the convenience of the Renegade to be fully removed is nice, I was use to the function on the Diamondback with my 2020 Ranger. I'm selling that cover to my father-in-law, and ordered the SE this time around with my F-150. Never really pushed the limits of the HD on the Ranger. Was also able to snag the 3 day lead time this go around as well. The Renegade is very sharp and clean looking though. Had I known about it before, might have tried it out.

Both have great features, but I think the Diamondback is best for my use and offers much more options for the people who don't plan on constantly needing to take the thing off. Being able to open up the two separate sections to gain access is HUGE for many people, especially if you get the Diamondback tool box for the front part. With the Renegade you lose access to the front of your bed and will have to fold everything back to get things that slid up there, or you will have to crawl under it. With the Diamondback you simply lift the front lid up. I do like the slots built into the Renegade to add optional attachments...that is crazy cool.

Addressing 5:48 issue on the Diamondback. You can fold the tailgate panel all the way back onto the cab panel after disconnecting the struts. I've done this before while transporting a refrigerator and only using the tailgate end of my truck bed so I don't have to remove the cover. I love the low profile of the Renegade but the fact that you have to open your tailgate first before you can open the cover is a huge inconvenience for me since I carry my tools at the cab end of my truck bed. Also, you still have about 90% usage of your bed rails with the Diamondback while the Renegade covers up the entire bed rail with the locking mechanism.

I’d like to know how secure that latch is. We have some highly motivated thieves that can pass through the gap between the tailgate and the cover and pop latches on covers like the bak flip.
This latch is towards the back. How tight does the cover hug the bed rail?

    • @RenegadeCovers
      @RenegadeCovers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Great question, generally speaking when we install it, it will have 1/8th wiggle factor in the latches. We do this because as the truck travels down the road and constant use its not so tight that it wont be able to unlock. Now as for your motivated thieves, It would be nearly impossible to crowbar off the bed. This is because there is 4 pins securing the bed on each side (8 Total). About the only way to get into the Renegade is to take an angle grinder with a cutting wheel and cut a hole in to reach your stuff. It would be easier to access the valuables but cutting the bed of the truck. This is why various law enforcement agencies are opting for the Renegade for their firearm protection.

Wow, this is a really cool cover! Were you around in 2018? That was when I bought my truck, but the only heavy duty cover that popped in my searches was the DB. I do love mine, but it does have some cons. Mostly, when I need to have full access to the bed. I love that yours is more easily removable. Don't get me wrong, the DB isn't too hard and even by myself I can get the cover off in about 15 minutes or so. But then I will have to spend another 20 minutes putting it back and adjusting because I never seem to get it just right. It's too bad the toolbox option isn't available yet. I have one on mine and use it pretty often. I don't mind having my tie downs sticking out and it is a nice handle when I'm trying to jump up onto the cover. But I really like that accessories are easily mounted, without having to drill any holes. Also, the lock on the inside and not having to have extra keys is a real bonus. I guess, maybe on my next truck...

Is the Renegade Cover made vehicle specific or is it possible to fit on another truck, possibly with bolt in filler blocks or something like that to adjust 1-2". I noticed in this video that your cover appears to be rectangular rather than matching truck bed external shape like the Diamondback cover.
When I sold my truck the Diamondback cover was not a convincing selling point. Even the person that bought the truck was indifferent about it.
I loved the functionality and security of my old Diamondback, unlocking and fiddling with locks were annoying but worth it. The fixed center panel was a PITA, I only removed the cover once in 12 years. I would just put stuff that was too big to go underneath on top and tarp it if necessary.
I owned a Diamondback HD but had to sell it with my Titan because I knew from trying to find one used before I bought new that they are very vehicle specific. Most truck beds are wider in the front than rear (external bed rail not inside dimension) and almost no 2 are the same.
I hauled a 400 cc atv on my cover and towed a large 16' 3500# tent trailer and never noticed the atv on top changing handling dynamics even on twisty mountain highways. I do have to say strapping down an atv that high up is also not simple, you had better be able to climb on and over stuff to get to tie-down points.

Then you will want to drill holes in the flange and use these studs to attach the to the cover so the ramps dont slip

The selling point for me was, renegade offers a free torsion bar for all first responders and military. During my car with renegade covers they asked if I was a service member. Diamondback has no discounts or offers no accessories for Service-members. Customer service was second to none in dealing with renegade. I emailed Diamond back three times and called twice before I got a response when I asked if they offer any discounts to first responders or military their response was no. As a Vet I never buy a product or use a service because I will get a discount based on my service. I look to whether it is priced reasonably and if I want it. That is the same as any "sales". I never buy a product because it is on "sale" either. That said, if I pay less because of either, that is a bonus. But that is never the determining factor for me. Heck I don't even take up offers at restaurants for free meals based on my veteran status. On the same note, I don't buy a product or use a service based on it being "veteran owned" either. My choice is made based on quality, price, etc. and only if two things are equally the same might "veteran owned" make a difference. Same with "woman owned", "minority owned", etc. Those things simply don't matter to me and frankly say nothing about the quality of the item or service. So no, not having a vet or "first responder" discount is not really a "kick in the nuts"... at least not for me. I got what my contract stated, and that is all I expected out of my service in the military. It was an honor to serve. And thank you and all others who served or are serving. Cheers!

I’ve had the Renegade cover for couple years and wish I bought the Diamond back cover. The cover is a pain to install (looks like they quickly scrapped some pictures and put it in a word document). setting the alignment was a pain and it gets out of alignment frequently. The gearing to lock and unlock from one side rarely works. It constantly gets jammed and skips the gears and you end up walking over to the other side and unlatching, defeating the purpose of it. The worst of all, it’s extremely heavy and does not have the struts to assist. Also, diamond back can be disassembled in peace’s by one person, the renegade is so heavy that you need 2-3 people to remove. They don’t have ATV ramps either, had to buy diamond back ramps. Save yourself money and frustration, buy the diamond back. And yea this guy is from renegade and just promoting the cover not a good review.

Thank you for sharing your opinion that the Diamondback cover is the better option. It's important to note that different truck bed covers have their own strengths and weaknesses, and the "better" cover ultimately depends on individual needs and preferences.
In comparing the Diamondback cover with Renegade Covers, it's essential to consider various factors such as weight capacity, material, folding style, weather protection, manufacturing, security, and available accessories. Each cover offers different features and options, and what may be preferable for one person might not be the same for another.
While the Diamondback cover may have specific qualities or features that you find appealing, it's important to review the details and specifications of both covers and determine which one aligns better with your specific requirements. Conducting thorough research and considering your personal needs will help ensure that you choose the cover that suits you best. Your choice of tonneau cover will depend on your specific application. Not a fair review of the Diamondback in my opinion. When reviewing a competitors product, please do your homework. The function(s) and versatility of the lids were not explained in its entirety, nor was bed size (4-8 feet). It all makes a difference in choosing the right cover.

A disclaimer would have been nice. This is a commercial, not a unbiased comparison.
