    Work of art, practical, basically perfect! Thank you for sharing. One day I plan to build one too - this video was really helpful

    The process of making a camping trailer is so interesting, and the finished trailer seems like a piece of art.

    I am going to build one to pull behind a Honda Civic. I've been looking at a lot of them and so far, yours seems to be about the right size. Good job.

      It is just big enough for 2 people and when i pulled it behind the jeep Cherokee in the pictures I didn't even know it was back there. If you have any questions or are close enough to use my side template message me. We can be reached on our Instagram and Facebook page as well.

    Love it

    I love it, want to start mine but I would like to have it some kind of suspension, I noticed this one has no suspension at all, how bumpy is the ride? The road quality in my country is no where near as good as in the US, but your input can give me a good idea. Again, love the way this thing looks

      It does have suspension. I used a torsion axle. There is an arm off of the the axle that goes to the wheel, is a square shaft inside of the main tube with rubber cords that control the twist. I believe that one was rated for 1,000 lbs. You should definitely look into them, 100% independent suspension. It rode great behind the bike and didn't even know it was behind my jeep. Thank you for the compliment on how it looks.

    What kind of hitch did you use?
    Excellent build, thinking of doing this myself

      I used a pin with a locking top that we made use a hitch pin and a high angle hiem joint.

    Looking at building a teardrop myself, to be pulled by a goldwing. How did you see behind you was there a reasonable view using the bike mirrors?

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously there was some blind spots down low, but it was short enough for me to see over the top of it most of the time. The biggest issue was the wind. If you are using a trike it would likely handle a lot better.

    I enjoyed watching the video, thanks for sharing! I see from some previous comments that your trailer weighs about 500 lbs. Would you mind sharing what the tongue weight is and what the measurements are?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The tongue weight depends completely on how you load it depending on what luggage you are taking with you. I don't remember all the measurements, but I know the body is 4 foot wide. I still have my templet at the garage and can measure it next time I am there.

    What keeps the bottom of the trailer from rusting out over time. Is that drywall screws you used to put it all together?

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I painted the trailer frame with tractor implement paint and I can't remember what screws I used for certain but I would recommend deck screws or stainless. It has been over 8 years since I built the trailer.

      I also used a piece of fiberglass between the wood floor and the frame to keep water from affecting the floor.

      Thats quite a bit of weight for a bike.

    i’ve been thinking about doing this but I think I’m going to start out with an electric brake axle. how does it handle with the axle that far back?

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually wish I would have put it back farther due to where I wanted to mount my spare tire. Balance of trailer on axle is more important than position. I ended up having to haul my spare inside and not in the rear mount because of it. Also I though about brakes but was worried and electric brake would drag the rear on the bike weird in a corner. I was looking at hydraulic style like they sometimes run on boat trailers to prevent that.

    • @atlas3863
      @atlas3863 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrench Benders Yeah I figured the tongue weight would get up there The further back you go. but if your bike can take it more power to ya👍 bet it pulls really stable now. The hydraulic sounds pretty sweet and simple once installed.

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tongue was actually too light with my tire mount on the rear because of how the interior was built. That is why i was saying the axle should have been farther back because all the cargo weight and main structure is actually in the back of the trailer. I had to through my spare tire inside the front of the camper to keep it from wagging due to light tongue weight.

    • @atlas3863
      @atlas3863 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrench Benders dammit man I figured the front would be heavier than that you did pretty good at keeping it light. Might need to make a spot to mount one of them little 2,500 watt suitcase generators on the tongue of the trailer. they are about 30 to 45 lbs. maybe even a small Triangular aluminum diamond plate box to set it in.

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It weighed in at almost a dead on 500lbs with spare and the rest empty.

      It has been awhile since I built it and I have sold it since. I know the body was 4 foot wide total in order to use full un-cut pieces for the roof. The side is made from 1 4x8 sheet as well. Is there a specific measurement you would like? I can see if I can figure out for you.
