Who's I had taken machine shop and then welding courses ...take a hunk of metal and build a machine ...but life is what it is I always made a good living fixing just as hard as I could go.
Very nice. Well thought out. Excellent craftsmanship. I use an old Travlite model 123 popup. Its a great unit. But I have dreamed of building a rustic cabin looking trailer to pull behind my bike. I'm thinking all welded aluminum framing. Including structural. I took pictures of your video for ideas to add to my plans. Like the lights, fenders, wheels, etc.
What a great idea, I want something so I can keep my dog with me when I go on motorcycle trips but this is so much more. Thanks of the video, and the ideas it's giving me.

Dave believe it or not I built this some recycled stuff and new materials some used such as the tires and wheels. I roughly have about one thousand in it. I built it a few years back. Lovely job, I might have gone with car tires for the extra mileage you would get from them before they need replacing but that's just a personal choice. Hope you enjoy many happy, safe miles with your new little house on wheels!
That teardrop weighs less than the bike. No point in worrying about car tires. The tires on the bike will need to be replaced before the trailer’s and we wouldn’t put car tires on the Harley.

Great looking camper/trailer.. I'm looking to build my own small enclosed trailer to pull behind my Harley but don't need anything as fancy as this.. I don't want to pull one of those trailers that everyone else has.. how heavy is your trailer? My buddy has one of those $5k legacy trailers that are fiberglass and have heritage fenders and we extended the tongue on it so it sits back off his bike about 5 feet.. it not only looks really cool especially when we're all truck drivers who have stretched out wheelbase trucks but also because it handles much better and doesn't effect the bike near as much..
Mine weighs 390lbs. I would of liked it a little lighter . Lighter the better. U know weight is a big deal behind a bike. If I was to build another I think I’d try to build with foam board and fiberglass. Thanks for the comment Ben….
THEFALCO, sheet metal was new most other parts were used, including tires and wheels purchased cheap as possible. Insulation cheap at Lowe’s, Labor of course was all me. 14 hundred bucks approximately. It really was a fun project. Thanks for watching and your question. U can do..... it anything is possible.....
@@busterstravels1534 Thank you for answering, I am a retired/disabled Automotive Machinist. I might be able to do this lol, gonna have to go pickin' and see what is out there. I avoid a lot of rides on my scooter because I am not wanting to pitch a tent and sleep on the ground the pitching of the tent is not a big deal but that sleeping on the ground .... This trailer would be perfect for me and get me out on the slabs more.
Hello Scott, thanks for the comment… it was really a fun project. I was hoping for around 400lbs max but ended up with 490lbs. It’s a little bit on the heavy side. It took a little while to get used to pulling it. I practiced in a empty lot near my house. The farthest I’m pulled it was approximately 30 miles. If I was to build another I’d shave some weight off. There’s always a way… 👍
I liked everything about it but one thing. Just kind of high on the axle you got. Because of wind and storms and such. But as for the other parts of the build. I give it and A+ go easy bro:-)
Hello Adam thanks for the comment. I agree with you a hundred percent. Also it is a little heavier then I hoped for. I really had no solid plan when I built it. It just kinda evolved. I build it so my dog could travel with me. Funny thing he didn’t like being that far away from me. So that didn’t work out. Well you build like I do, I'm building one right now for just bicycle to kick off my company. But I have five others, other than the one to start it off. But anyways I'm not on here other than some jamming. Because it can be stolen if someone decides to take my design. Plus making this one go on most travel types was really tuff to do on the first one. So I'll wish you the best of luck on any more builds you desire to do in the future. I found that not every design has to be able to stand up in like any ones out. And like a tent pop up, just open when need be with about as much room as a small theater. But your build is the best one I've seen yet. And I've been looking so. If your posting more or The channel thing for ya. Let me know and I'll subcribe, later

Hello Dave thanks for the comment. It is just under seven feet long as is. Plenty of room for long legs and feet under the galley area. I did see one in the past that expanded when parked. I don’t have a picture but believe I saw it here on TH-cam during my planing period.

Dave, thanks for the comment. Well my friend I have no prints or plans. I start with an idea and it just evolved from day to day. I originally built it to take my dog with me. I’m retired and we are always together. Well he won’t ride in it. Then the pandemic hit so I decided to build out a Chevy express van. There’s videos of it here on TH-cam. If I was to build another I would cut some weight and lower it. Like with a dropped axle. Actually it just sits in my garage . The plan originally was to paint it to match my shovel but it never happened. It’s just In primer now. I haven’t advertised it but I’m thinking about selling it in the spring. It is very dangerous to tow with a motorcycle. Even light weight. I can understand why it’s illegal there. I never tow on highway. Just two lane county roads. I use it more as a novelty now. Well William it weighs 390 lbs. which is a little on the heavy side. I was hoping for a little lighter. I never pulled a trailer before with a bike. I actually pulled it in a large parking lot near my place to get used to the feel. I live in northeastern Pa, a lot of hills. The farthest I’ve pulled it is about 35 miles. I’ve noticed it something that you have to be very vigilant about what’s around the next corner. Stopping has to be kinda planned. No panic stopping with a trailer behind a bike. I haven’t had any problems pulling it but it’s a white knuckle ride, fun and exciting at the same time I would feel much better pulling it behind a trike. It gets a ton of looks. People love it. It’s a hit at bike nights. I originally built it so I could travel with my dog. Well he’s not to fond of it. So it actually sits in my garage. I built a van since to travel with my four legged friend. Actually I’m thinking about putting it up for sale. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for asking, Dave

I've seen a few guys put the U-Haul style hydraulic brakes on the tongue of their trailer don't know if that would help...300 was my target for weight...I am considering doing a foam build with poor man's fiberglass I'm just worried about it being too light actually I think I could probably get the thing down under 180 lb for the size I have in mind Im concerned whenever I pass a truck it might blow over tho... Hello Don Pet, when building I was hoping for under 400 lbs. the lighter the better. Pulling anything with a bike is dangerous. I didn’t know what the final outcome would be. It weighs half of what my bike does. It took some getting used to. I won’t take it on any long trips for sure. I’m 67 so for me it was more a project than something I plan on getting a ton of use out of. I enjoy building. I would like to sell it hopefully to someone with a trike. It’s more suited for something like that.

Hello Buddy, it turned out a little heavier then I planned. 390lbs. It did use more gas but not crazy amount. But because of the weight it was a little bit of a nail bitter to pull. It was doable but you always had to plan ahead for stops and starts. It got sold to a guy with a trike. Perfect for a trike. I would like to build another in the fall but I’m planning on building it with styrofoam, covered with fiberglass. We.Very light and strong. There is a couple videos out there with a few guys built. We’ll I hope the helps answer your question. I’ll say it was fun to camp in and guys went crazy for it at bike nights. Have a great summer.✌️😎
NO NO NO NO NO NO!!! The RULE IS, 50# MAXIMUM of weight on the tongue, when tugging with a bike! MY camp gear would MASSIVELY overload that tongue and since I ride hard, put me in a DITCH. Those wheels need to be farther forward; NOT behind the,wagon. As a trailer tugger, I've experimented a bit, and I found that the main opinion of the Motocampers is correct. 50lbs max.
I agree with you. I’m not a professional builder. I built this as a fun project, learning every step of the way. If I were to build another I would do it much differently. I believe it’s more suited for a trike.

Hello Tim, thanks for the comment. Please subscribe. I used Lexan, not plexiglass. Lexan is very bendable. I sandwiched the Lexan between the outer 2” flat bar and the inner part is 1” square tube, thin wall. I filled the square tube with sand so I could heat and bend it. The trailer part of the window frame is 1” u channel. It works as a rain gutter. I also use some weather stripping. I hope that helps. Have a great day.
I made the frame from 1” square stalk. I filled it with sand and bent it to shape. Then I made a outer frame of flat stalk hinged the bottom end and put a 1/8” piece of Lexan in between the square tube and the outer piece of 2” flat stalk. Please like and subscribe. Lexan is bendable.
Hello Denver, the first time I pulled it it scared me. I wondered was it doable. Well I decided to take it to an industrial parking lot in my neighborhood and practiced pulling it. Taking off from a stop. Also practiced stopping with it and making various types of turns. It definitely takes some getting used too. The bike handled it but it felt much different. A bit scary. Every aspect was a learning experience. You really have to plan your stops and starts. Pulling something with two wheels is dangerous.

I just watched the video again. If you look close the front view of the hatch open gives a pretty good view of the gutter minus the rubber seal. The rubber is on the underside of the pop. Up. Maybe you can take a screenshot.

I think it has more to do with the video being just a slideshow than people not appreciating the build.

Car tires would also put more drag on it where the narrow tires have less in contact with the road helping to cut down on drag and fuel consumption

My buddy has one of those $5k legacy trailers that are fiberglass and have heritage fenders and we extended the tongue on it so it sits back off his bike about 5 feet.. it not only looks really cool especially when we're all truck drivers who have stretched out wheelbase trucks but also because it handles much better and doesn't effect the bike near as much..
Mine weighs 390lbs. I would of liked it a little lighter . Lighter the better. U know weight is a big deal behind a bike. If I was to build another I think I’d try to build with foam board and fiberglass. Thanks for the comment Ben….

Great Build and design!! Not that I have the skill to do this but I am wondering what would you estimate you spent for materials to make this trailer
THEFALCO, sheet metal was new most other parts were used, including tires and wheels purchased cheap as possible. Insulation cheap at Lowe’s, Labor of course was all me. 14 hundred bucks approximately. It really was a fun project.

@@busterstravels1534 Thank you for answering, I am a retired/disabled Automotive Machinist. I might be able to do this lol, gonna have to go pickin' and see what is out there. I avoid a lot of rides on my scooter because I am not wanting to pitch a tent and sleep on the ground the pitching of the tent is not a big deal but that sleeping on the ground .... This trailer would be perfect for me and get me out on the slabs more.

Hello Scott, thanks for the comment… it was really a fun project. I was hoping for around 400lbs max but ended up with 490lbs. It’s a little bit on the heavy side. It took a little while to get used to pulling it. I practiced in a empty lot near my house. The farthest I’m pulled it was approximately 30 miles. If I was to build another I’d shave some weight off. There’s always a way… 👍
One more thing Scott, if you build one consider a dropped axle. A little lower would be nice also.

Hello Adam thanks for the comment. I agree with you a hundred percent. Also it is a little heavier then I hoped for. I really had no solid plan when I built it. It just kinda evolved. I build it so my dog could travel with me. Funny thing he didn’t like being that far away from me. So that didn’t work out. Well you build like I do, I'm building one right now for just bicycle to kick off my company. But I have five others, other than the one to start it off. But anyways I'm not on here other than some jamming. Because it can be stolen if someone decides to take my design. Plus making this one go on most travel types was really tuff to do on the first one. So I'll wish you the best of luck on any more builds you desire to do in the future. I found that not every design has to be able to stand up in like any ones out. And like a tent pop up, just open when need be with about as much room as a small theater. Hello Dave thanks for the comment. It is just under seven feet long as is. Plenty of room for long legs and feet under the galley area.
I did see one in the past that expanded when parked. I don’t have a picture but believe I saw it here on TH-cam during my planing period.

Dave, thanks for the comment. Well my friend I have no prints or plans. I start with an idea and it just evolved from day to day. I originally built it to take my dog with me. I’m retired and we are always together. Well he won’t ride in it. Then the pandemic hit so I decided to build out a Chevy express van. There’s videos of it here on TH-cam. If I was to build another I would cut some weight and lower it. Like with a dropped axle. Actually it just sits in my garage . The plan originally was to paint it to match my shovel but it never happened. It’s just In primer now. I haven’t advertised it but I’m thinking about selling it in the spring. Thanks Rich, actually no leaks very water tight. I wish I showed better detail of how I did that. I built in a type of rain gutter and weather stripping similar to a car. Ty for watching.

It is very dangerous to tow with a motorcycle. Even light weight. I can understand why it’s illegal there. I never tow on highway. Just two lane county roads. I use it more as a novelty now. Well William it weighs 390 lbs. which is a little on the heavy side. I was hoping for a little lighter. I never pulled a trailer before with a bike. I actually pulled it in a large parking lot near my place to get used to the feel. I live in northeastern Pa, a lot of hills. The farthest I’ve pulled it is about 35 miles. I’ve noticed it something that you have to be very vigilant about what’s around the next corner. Stopping has to be kinda planned. No panic stopping with a trailer behind a bike. I haven’t had any problems pulling it but it’s a white knuckle ride, fun and exciting at the same time I would feel much better pulling it behind a trike. It gets a ton of looks. People love it. It’s a hit at bike nights.
I originally built it so I could travel with my dog. Well he’s not to fond of it. So it actually sits in my garage. I built a van since to travel with my four legged friend.
Actually I’m thinking about putting it up for sale.

I've seen a few guys put the U-Haul style hydraulic brakes on the tongue of their trailer don't know if that would help...300 was my target for weight...I am considering doing a foam build with poor man's fiberglass I'm just worried about it being too light actually I think I could probably get the thing down under 180 lb for the size I have in mind Im concerned whenever I pass a truck it might blow over tho... Hello Don Pet, when building I was hoping for under 400 lbs. the lighter the better. Pulling anything with a bike is dangerous. I didn’t know what the final outcome would be. It weighs half of what my bike does. It took some getting used to. I won’t take it on any long trips for sure. I’m 67 so for me it was more a project than something I plan on getting a ton of use out of. I enjoy building. I would like to sell it hopefully to someone with a trike. It’s more suited for something like that.

Hello Buddy, it turned out a little heavier then I planned. 390lbs. It did use more gas but not crazy amount. But because of the weight it was a little bit of a nail bitter to pull. It was doable but you always had to plan ahead for stops and starts. It got sold to a guy with a trike. Perfect for a trike. I would like to build another in the fall but I’m planning on building it with styrofoam, covered with fiberglass. We.Very light and strong. There is a couple videos out there with a few guys built. We’ll I hope the helps answer your question. I’ll say it was fun to camp in and guys went crazy for it at bike nights.

The RULE IS, 50# MAXIMUM of weight on the tongue, when tugging with a bike!
MY camp gear would MASSIVELY overload that tongue and since I ride hard, put me in a DITCH.
Those wheels need to be farther forward; NOT behind the,wagon.
As a trailer tugger, I've experimented a bit, and I found that the main opinion of the Motocampers is correct. 50lbs max.
I agree with you. I’m not a professional builder. I built this as a fun project, learning every step of the way. If I were to build another I would do it much differently. I believe it’s more suited for a trike.

How did you shape the plexiglass front roof area to be able to open up like that ? What all did you use
Hello Tim, thanks for the comment. Please subscribe. I used Lexan, not plexiglass. Lexan is very bendable. I sandwiched the Lexan between the outer 2” flat bar and the inner part is 1” square tube, thin wall. I filled the square tube with sand so I could heat and bend it. The trailer part of the window frame is 1” u channel. It works as a rain gutter. I also use some weather stripping. I hope that helps. Have a great day.
What is used for the pop up sky light ? How do you get the curved glass is that a thick clear vinyl ?
I made the frame from 1” square stalk. I filled it with sand and bent it to shape. Then I made a outer frame of flat stalk hinged the bottom end and put a 1/8” piece of Lexan in between the square tube and the outer piece of 2” flat stalk. Please like and subscribe. Lexan is bendable.

Has anybody ever pulled one of these what does it feel like
Hello Denver, the first time I pulled it it scared me. I wondered was it doable. Well I decided to take it to an industrial parking lot in my neighborhood and practiced pulling it. Taking off from a stop. Also practiced stopping with it and making various types of turns. It definitely takes some getting used too. The bike handled it but it felt much different. A bit scary. Every aspect was a learning experience. You really have to plan your stops and starts. Pulling something with two wheels is dangerous.
What's the kerb weight of your bike compared to the weight of the trailer?
Hello Lucas, the bike weighs about 850lbs and the trailer is 390 lbs. it would be nice if it was a little lighter. If I was to build another I would definitely cut some weight. Thanks for your comment.

HOw did you waterproof the hatch so that water does not come in between the trailer and the hatch?
I wish I could send a close-up picture. I built a rain gutter into it with a rubber seal. Similar to a car trunk lid.... thanks for your question.
I just watched the video again. If you look close the front view of the hatch open gives a pretty good view of the gutter minus the rubber seal. The rubber is on the underside of the pop. Up. Maybe you can take a screenshot.

Til it weighs 490lbs and tongue weight I believe is 85lbs.
