    I think all the prep paid off. The car came out exceptional. I remember spraying whole cars back in the lacquer days. I also remember wet sanding and buffing the vehicle because it was sprayed in the home garage. No Internet. No TH-cam. Just learned from trial and error. Thanks for taking the time and bringing us along. Enjoy your evening.

      Yeah I've been messing with epoxy and it really is a challenge to get anything totally clean. There's always some spec of dust floating around. I was almost surprised to see that's an issue in a professional environment, but I have thought about a clean room and how hard that is to keep dust free. Especially for painting it's even harder with all the dust, very well done for sure.

    I wouldn't paint anyone's car cheap either... I spent a lot of money putting my system together, & my time is valuable... No money, no paint... want it done for material cost? Then buy all the stuff & do it yourself...want to rent my equipment for basically nothing so you can destroy my set up, not fix it & then complain about cheap, shoddy equipment? Get lost... I'm retired, so I quote high & cash only... either it'll make them go somewhere else & I can spend my time working on my own stuff, or I'll get paid fairly & it'll be worth doing... when you don't need the money, they can't take advantage of you...

    I wish i knew what a quality paint job should cost, but the range of quotes I've gotten for a respray in the same original color is all over the place with no rhyme or reason. Theres no rust, no or minimal dings or dents, and i get ridiculous quotes of $10k to $20k. I make it explicitly clear that im not trying to get some sort of show-quality paint job too. I feel like these are all "I don't want to paint your car" quotes.

    • @dennisgruba4792
      @dennisgruba4792 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I always do a cross coat by actually turning the fan nozzle not tilting the gun. I sprayed business jets and certain areas have to be smooth within .003-.005” inch in front of the static ports for accuracy. Cross coats are the only way to achieve that without block sanding or buffing. On cars I still use that technique to prevent zebra striping and when I sprayed houses it was super important to eliminate zebra stripes and get the correct wet mil thickness for warranty coverage and UV durability here in the South

He then says he wants to change the car color. His tone worsened when I told him about $4000 because of the work involved, and that's still cheap. He claimed he could get it done cheaper elsewhere. Good for him, as I would rather not touch anything of his at this point because he doesn't respect the time, labor, and material costs involved. Not to mention, he wants it done in a fast manner. There's too much invested in the prep & supplies alone. @@albertchavez2693 that can vary so much depending on what the owner wants and what the vehicle needs to get there. There is no given number. It all comes down to a negotiation and agreement between the two. Great paint and body work takes time…let the person do the work and don’t bug them. Just look forward to the end result.

    I used to paint in a spray booth that leaked water from the roof, it was a struggle in rainy days. What I would have given for your set up, slick work. Even Earl Scheib had a better booth with no ups and no extras at $99.95 😂😂

    The only silver car I ever liked was a little shitbox small car, what made it stand out is the guy had silver tint put in the windows which matched the shade of the silver almost exactly. Looked Boss! Old guy that worked my cars showed me how to degrease an engine. spray oit down with degreaser in a stonechip gun so it foames over nice. leave it for ten minutes, then come in with the pressure washer... of course My cars are 30 and 48 years old, so much less electronics to avoid.

    Great video Silvers and also Charcoals can always be tricky. Definitely the prep for silvers them metallics will find the smallest scratch to lay in. Last week did 4 silvers in a row though for sure I pissed the paint Gods off Lol. The only place was the hoods that gave me problems in the past. First pass horizontal second vertical then orientation coat. Always slow reducer a must. That’s what I found works for me on a complete. I’ve learned spray it don’t play with it just because it’s Silver. Can’t be dusting here dusting there thinking you see something you don’t. Just spray it like you say it’s only paint. So you like the Sikkens system Noble been treating me pretty good just got there Valorem system put in my shop a couple months ago. Best sealer I’ve sprayed lays down flat. Camera is also pretty good. Only problem with Noble there metallics are always to course. Always have make adjustments on formulas. Sprayed there Imperium same problem. You have that problem with Sikkens? But once again great video. Can always learn keep an open mind that’s how I feel about this Industry.

    The obvious issue is labor costs. Very few cars are worth investing $20k in a paint job. But if you love your car, and you’re going to keep it for a long time, spend the money.

    I have a vehicle that I want to paint flat (non metallic) light sky blue. It'd be easier for me to paint it panel by panel, will that work for a non metallic paint? Also, I was planning to do it two weekends; instead of one to save on vacation time. Will it still come out looking good/ok, or should i realy just eat the vacation time and do it all in one go?

    I really enjoyed watching this video. Thank you for educating those who don’t know that overall paint jobs are not easy or cheap it adds up on too many little tasks I’ll never paint a whole car again for less than 5k. I can’t do half fast job. Your paint job speaks for you.

    Hi Brian, Been watch your video's for awhile. I'm just starting to prep my silver 68 mustang for a full repaint. I only use email for the most part and would love to ask a couple questions about prep and paint. Is there a way to send you the small list of questions other then using the comments to talk back and forth. Not sure if there is a email address that I can use. Love your video's and I would make my questions quick. Just need to check a few items. Thanks very much for any time you have.

    These kinds of results should never come cheap unless you're doing it for the wife or for your mom. I watched the video again because I remembered so much going on here. A customer who cares about having their car all one color after it's been recently repaired are rare and for the most part aren't afraid to spend the money. It would have been great to record the customer do a walk around,seeing the expression on his/her face. I'm sure the owner is more than pleased with the final results. Great video.
