I have a theory about this movie: that someone wrote a generic script about Patience Phillips becoming a random generic hero, but they realized it wouldn't sell so just slapped the Catwoman name on it to try and sell more tickets.

Ghostbusters 2016 gets no nominations for Razzies, yet Darren Aronofsky's mother! gets 2 for the director and J-Law. Sure, both movies are polarizing for different reasons, but how did Ghostbusters 2016 not get nominated? [Sarcasm] Oh, right! The movie got a fresh rating on RT! And as we all know, that prevents your film from getting Razzies thrown at it! [Sarcasm ends] Film Journalists can be as bullshit as Games Journalists sometimes... Heck, considering that the Razzies are willing to smack at movies that got positive reception like with Fahrenheit 9/11, so what was stopping them from give GB2016 any nominations, despite Paul Feig being as up his own ass with that movie?

@@TommyDeonauthsArchives They weren't really getting at Fahrenheit 9/11, just wanted to make lame Bush jokes [a trick they repeated for Trump later] for attention seeking/clickbait as they often do with easy'/widely disliked targets [like Lyndsay Lohan in 'I know who killed me' or Stallone over the years]. Mel Gibson got a nomination for Expendables 3 despite most people saying he was a bright spot in it because he was a disliked celebrity at the time.
If the Razzie's nominated films that are actually the worst films of the year-VOD films or Sci Fi channel original films-no one would care as [unless it's a Bruce Willis snooze fest] no big names appear in them and no one watches them.

I remember the conversation around this movie at the time was why female super heroes movies don't work. All the talking heads decided it was because the public was sexist and didn't want to see women in the leads, which is Hollywood's classic excuse anytime they f*** up and make a stupid movie that no one wants to see; "We're not sexist, you're sexist!" Instead of doing some soul-searching and asking themselves, "Why can't we write women well?" Batman stopped the Joker from poisoning all of Gotham, the Penguin from stealing an election AND murdering children, Riddler from stealing everyone's minds, and Mr. Freeze from starting an ice apocalypse. And what's Catwoman's plot? Inferior cosmetics. Aim high girl, aim high.

Then again DC Comics management in the early 2000’s was really weird in general. Around the same time they had something fans called the Bat Embargo in which a character from the Batman mythos was only allowed to appear in one piece of media at a time, which is why Robin didn’t show up in the 2004 Batman cartoon until the original Teen Titans was cancelled, and the Timmverse versions of Riddler and Scarecrow were supposed to be on the Legion of Doom in the Justice League cartoon since they were on the original Super Friends’ Legion ,but that idea was shot down because they had each already appeared in the 2004 cartoon and Batman Begins. And why was that? It would apparently confuse kids if they saw the characters appear in different versions….no really that was the reason. Except of course if you think about for more than five seconds you’d realize that somehow Batman himself was fine even though all of the pieces of media I listed are VERY different and do contradict each other. And also the fact that kids are not stupid and can probably tell pieces of media apart.
Maybe that was the reason why they couldn’t have anything from the comics in the Catwoman movie? I have no idea
Update: just remembered that, she did appear in the 2004 cartoon so….probably
Edit: somehow I overlooked some typos, especially weird since my point was that children WEREN’T morons

Probably the strangest example was with the '97 Justice League made for TV movie.
It was based on a run that didn't have most of the classic Justice League Lineup (of DC's big 3, it only had Batman - and that was only because the head writer of Batman at the time, Denny O'Neil, took pity on the comic and agreed to let Batman be used), yet in the movie, there's no Batman (there is Martian Manhunter, Barry Allen's Flash, and some guy who calls himself Guy Gardner that's more akin to Kyle Rayner) - and this is because, of all things, Batman and Robin was coming out that year.

    • @johnschou2172
      @johnschou2172 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@guardianx51that particular run is referred to as the Justice League International, written by the late Keith Giffen (R.I.P.) and J. M. DeMatteis, who you might know from work on Spider-Man like “Kraven’s Last Hunt” and “Maximum Carnage.” Honestly, it’s not a bad idea for a Justice League movie lineup at that time, but at the same time, that run of the book ended and had become Justice League of America again, so it might have been a little too late to have that lineup. What didn’t help was that some of the bigger members like Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Black Canary, Mister Miracle, and Maxwell Lord weren’t in the movie. Atom wasn’t on the team, and Flash was on an offshoot team called Justice League Europe. I do actually recommend that run, at least if you’re okay with comedic superhero stories.

Something I barely see get brought up in regards to this movie is how the villain's endgame revolves around cosmetic products. It was silly when the Joker did it in the first Tim Burton Batman movie, too, buy it fit with the style that Burton created. Here it's just... dumb. Anyway, for a good Catwoman movie, I recommend seeking out the eponymous 2011 short which was made as a companion piece to the DCAU's Batman: Year One. Eliza Dushku voices Selina in both. And, of course, if you want more Catwoman material, don't forget to either (re)play Batman: Arkham City and/or (re)watch Batman Returns and The Dark Knight Rises. Regardless of how you feel about the latter, it's far, FAR better than this.

@Cinematic Excrement To answer your question whether or not to it could have been better with Michelle Pfeifer, Yes, Yes it would have. But, here's how it would have worked with either her or Halle Berry.
    1. Set it in Gotham and incorporate natural references to the Batman mythos.
    2. Instead of the two clowns being the villains, it's painfully obvious that at some point someone in the writing process wanted a Batman villain to be in this film. Who in question: Black Mask.
Think about it, Black Mask is the head of a cosmetics company called Janis Cosmetics, he is obsessed with masks and faces and the symbolism both represent, he's the head of a crime syndicate called the False Face Society and he uses medieval torture methods on his victims. Although that last part may have made the movie R rated.
I also say Black Mask as he was written in the comics would have made the film a little better, since he does have a history with Catwoman. The Gotham City Sirens storyline comes to mind.
If they wanted to have the "commentary " around beauty and appearances they could have used Black Mask for that or just make an original super heroine film using that as a satire.
