Pre-2018 I agree the 2.4 and motormounts (everything else about it, really) were really, really bad.. Since the 18 Refresh, the Equinox is actually nice and reliable. EV Equinox has only been on the market for 2 months total.
I put 400k on an 11 before It rusted out and got scrapped. Keep oil in them and they will run forever. Mine was burning 1L every 450kms at the end of its life
The problem with cars like the Supra is dealers never ever have them in their showrooms, so people have to buy them without ever even seeing one in person let alone test driving one. Most people don’t want to buy a car without test driving it
Hovie, even Wizard said the A8 is trash. April is right about the Mirai. Even here in California we don't see many of them. Only one place within 50 miles of here to fill it up. Same would go for that last Hyundai of which I have never even heard of.
And just imagine how disappointed the family would be when you brought it home: "I can't believe you were so irresponsible and put a burden on our family like that. How are we going to take care of it? It'll be so expensive! But at least you got a free cat with it!"
Biggest mistake ever made by domestic manufacturers not making 2 door cars. Some of us are big and tall and love the wide opening of a coupe. Not a doorjamb that's in front of the seat making entry hard. Plus, don't need 4 doors because no one sits back there☹️☹️
Tyler, I would love to see you and April review the last of the V8 powered , rear wheel drive Japanese coupes. The Lexus LC500 is extremely luxurious and fun to drive. I think it will be a future collectible with the limited production, especially in Cabriolet form.
Know a guy locally that has a modified LC500. Lots of top-tier parts he's imported from Japan like the Aimgain Carbon hood/fenders. Advan wheels, Toms exhaust and steering wheel. Just so nicely put together. I wasn't a big fan of the LC500 when I first seen the debut, but in person. Man they are sharp. And modified properly lovely. The Lexus RC F is a beautiful car as well. And the Vasser-Sullivan campaign in IMSA this year has been going great. I'd buy a RC F if the price was better. But it's hard to justify paying that much, when you can buy a 911 that's just overall better. I did have a IS300 F Sport and absolutely loved it, and the RC is just a 2 door version. But the price point on them, is just too much to justify since the car doesn't do any one thing better than everyone - but it does do everything above exceptions. The problem is, if you go to test drive a BMW/Mercedes you'll probably find your self buying either over the Lexus. Over time I think people would rather have the Lexus with it's ownerships cost, reliability, and build quality, BUT it's that initial experience that sells the car 90% of the time.
I don't think most luxury buyers care about ownership costs and overall quality. They want the newest fanciest model and trade them in before all the problems arise. Also I'd like to see that LC, sounds awesome!
I am absolutely fawning over the LC500. My plan is to save up to buy a used low mil example of 4 or so years when depreciation bottoms out. The build quality and engine combo among other things will guarantee these to become one of the most overlooked cars of this decade. It is overshadowed performance wise by all of its competitors, but once that dust settles and people can appreciate it for what it is, the LC500 is truly 1 of 1.
Agreed, they're one of the most beautiful cars made, top quality, and the interior is amazing. I wish they'd go all out on a special edition before the model dies off and make it extremely fast to finally finish the package. Like an F Sport model... put the LFA engine in it 😂😂
I live in a condo, how do you go EV or even PHEV when there is no place to even put a charger never mind plug your car in at home. Until the government can make it reasonable to charge your car when you do not own a house, EV and PHEV is going to take longer to become the standard.
What they should have done is make a hard core off roader promo model and get into all the off road competitions and events to bee seen by the crowds that are interested. Plus the free media publicity from being a new kid on the rock. Jeep became popular because all the attention it got in WW2. Hummer got all that media publicity when Schwarzenegger convinced the military sell him one.
I want to test drive a Supra. I'm in Central Texas. The only thing dealers here are interested in selling is Tundras and Tacomas. Last time I searched I had to drive 500+ miles to look at a Supra at the dealer. Toyota is not interested in selling me a Supra.
If you want the real Mk5 Supra, you should buy the LC500 at the beginning of this video. Yeah, it's twice the price and not as fast. But in 15 years, one of them is actually a Toyota and the other is a BMW that costs BMW money to keep running.
@@jimmy-buffettEh. I own a mkv supra and a IS500. The MKV is a perfect successor to the MK4. The b58 is a fantastic engine. A V8 in a supra would be odd. Maintenance is actually pretty similar.
@@TurkeyWilliams The MKV is a good car, I just question them calling it "Supra". To me that would be like letting Jeep build the Land Cruiser. As for long-term maintenance, the car isn't old enough yet to really tell. Long term I doubt it will be substantially better than any other BMW -- Toyota project management isn't the solution to BMW's over-engineering -- but we'll see.
My friend was saddled with a Mitsubishi mirage for a rental…Jesus I have never driven a worse car in my life..( we had a dealership ..I’ve driven everything)..holy crap 💩 what a horrible experience
I think the manual base model Mirage was amazing. It was the last old style, small, no bells and whistles manual hatchback you could buy that didn't have as much of the electronic junk as any of the other cars being produced now. When they were still being produced with a manual they sold for around $12,000. Unfortunately they discontinued the manual version which was the only good version of that car. It was inexpensive, easy to repair, very reliable, and got good fuel economy. It was very lightweight and the hatchback handled very nicely, like a street legal go kart. It had more space to work on the engine than any other new car I've seen, and parts are extremely inexpensive. It had mechanical climate controls and the touch screen only operated the radio, nothing else. It didn't get OTA updates nor did it have a cellular connection. It was the most similar new car I've driven to my daily driver 1979 Subaru DL wagon which I absolutely love and drive around 500-1500 miles per week. The Mirage with the CVT absolutely sucks, no question about it. The sedan also sucks compared to the hatchback. But I do think that with a manual it's quite a good car, and if you haven't driven the manual hatchback then you haven't gotten a good picture of just how good that car can be.
Grenadiers are a niche market. I think the "1500-2000" for 2024 is what they expexted to sell in the USA. They might get better sales in the near future when people get turned off by the abysmal quality of Land Rovers these days.
2018-2020 all automakers hit their peak… the only thing we needed was better mpg but everything was beautiful with good powertrains… check out the bmw 7 series (2018 ) and the 7 series (2022) sad…

Create artificial scarcity for a hot new product to drive up demand and add giant market adjustments Continue only making a few, people write them off as overpriced and impossible to get and buy other cars Sales don't meet expectations, model cancelled. "Nobody was buying them"
I rented a Z4 4 cyl on a vacation and it was an excellent driver. I had a lot of fun. Not crazy fast but made good sounds, peppy, and handled very well. It felt like a much bigger car than it was, in a good way. Cool car. Also over 30k for a Fiat 500 is insane to me. That should be 20k.
The issue is that everyone who could buy a Fiat 500 with a manual transmission bought every last one of them that they imported. Then they sent over this bloated Mini Cooper SUV mashup type of thing for $30K. Nasty automatic transmission as only the Italians can fail at. We're talking almost first gen Smart car bad transmissions, and the EV is just sad and such a low range. (can only stuff so many batteries in the poor little thing). 149 oops I mean 120 actual miles and an almost 3000lb weight. ugh. For reference, my Mustang is 3600lbs and goes like stink compared to this poor little toad. EV - 7.8 seconds. Mustang: 4.8 Same price for a base model Mustang, too....
Tyler I am allergic to cats too. My crazy cat lady friends say I should take allergy medicine for this issue. For April I just might do this, everyone else no way. Did research on this matter and wonder if I was wrong about my thoughts on this. One read stated the wife loved her hubby so much knowing he is allergic to cats she would volunteer at a cat shelter for the fix on loving cats come home take her clothes off in the garage put on fresh clothes and place the cat hair clothes into the wash machine. That to me is a keeper wife it is not all about them.
I have read that most people are allergic the the FELD1 protein in cats’ saliva, a water soluble protein (allergen) which cats cover themselves in by bathing. It can be reduced by bathing cats in water (those cats who tolerate bathing (could be a help. Please don’t shoot the messenger)).
I really like the Lexus LC and the RC. I just feel like they priced it out of the market if they would have drop the price by about 10 grand on the RC in about 20 grand on the LC it would have made them a lot more appealing
The reasons I suspect the Z4 hasn’t sold well: 1. It was overshadowed from the beginning by the return of the legendary Supra name after 22 years 2. It didn’t offer a manual for the first 5 years, even a full 2 years after the Supra got one. Now that they added one, everyone forgot the Z4 even exists. 3. Mazda really stepped up their interior game with the ND Miata and I imagine a lot of people who would’ve bought a manual Z4 just got the Miata and pocketed the extra money
I’m vacationing in Europe, and sedans and wagons are quite common. Small crossovers exist, but large SUVs and trucks are rare Sedans and wagons are usually better drivers and better on gas than most any suv. Wake up America!

Instead of just listing cars with low number of total sales a more meaningful metric of low performing model sales would be the #days of inventory available on dealer lots. If the number is really high then it shows the sales aren’t meeting manufacturer expectations and could indicate an expected change.
The problem with hydrogen is that it can't be left as a gas because it won't give a car any range. So it has to be cooled into a liquid. But then as it warms up in your car's tank, it vaporizes and has to be vented off, or else it would explode. After a few days of sitting in your garage most of it will be gone even if you never drove it.
Hoovie… I will pay to have you come out to the next annual Volvo event in California. You will see why so many people love the brand. More than meets the eye.
OK, so I can comment on 2 of these: The Acura ZDX is built on the GM Ultium platform, so they limited their exposure on the R&D of this model. They just license the platform and become a coach builder. Not a terrible outcome if they don't sell. As for the Toyota Mirai: I drove a Mirai for (almost) 3 years. The car is actually amazing. It's really a Lexus but they badge it as a Toyota to try to appeal to the "everyman" buyer. But to answer April's question: it's a pain in the a** to find hydrogen. Yes, they only sell them in California. But in southern California where, what, 20 million people live, there are only 25 hydrogen stations. So you truly have to plan your routes around where you can fill up, and then you find that only about 15-18 have hydrogen at any given time. It was really a nightmare. So much so that I turned in my lease 2 months early and just made the payments because it was so frustrating to find hydrogen. It's a "chicken and egg" problem that they haven't solved yet. I really don't know how they are still convincing people to buy them?
The issue with hydrogen is there is different types. Three grades iirc. Grey, blue, and green is it? Grey being hydrogen from petrochemical sources. Cheapest, but not cleanest. I cannot remember specifics on other two. One being from water using renewable energy?
On the Equinox EV and Blazer EV, 2 reasons not selling. A: the Equinox EV production ramp up just started over the last 3 to 4 months so there's very few on dealer lots yet. B: Neither the Blazer or Equinox EVs offer Apple Car Play which kills the sale for lots of people.
Tesla is the best car company ever! No gas stations, No oil changes, No smog check, No corrupt dealership, No catalytic converter and faster than a $650,000 Lamborghini
Re hydrogen-fueled cars: Hydrogen vs. Helium Carrying explosive devices on a hydrogen-filled balloon is certainly problematic, and there are a famous number of airship accidents. Whether they crashed into trees or experienced an engine fire, hydrogen was not the wisest decision. We learned from the Hindenburg disaster that hydrogen is highly flammable, whereas helium is not. The fabric surrounding the body of the airships was incompatible with the risks of combustible gas, which was assumed to be safe before. Though the probability of something as tiny as a spark-catching flame was extremely low, the Hindenburg disaster made manufacturers more cautious. Is there any other reason other than availability why sane people wouldn't buy a hydrogen-powered vehicle?
No. I REALLY wanted a Volvo C40 Recharge --> But Volvo priced it WAAAAAYYY out of where it should have been. No C40, EV or not, should EVER be $54,000! I mean, c'mon! I didn't buy the new GTO when it was re-released for the EXACT same reason.
Low pressure hydrogen is an issue. When you manufacture hydrogen and then consume it in hydro processing units (jet, diesel, gas oil hydrotreating, high pressure hydrocracking) not so much. All the compressors and piping are designed to contain, compress and transport hydrogen.
There is a disconnect when it comes to EV's. If you cannot afford to pay over 38K for one that leaves out like 90% of all EV's to begin with. Then if you're on time with your taxes, you might be eligible for the $7,500 from the government. If you rent an apartment that does not have an EV charger you then have to take time out from work to spend 30 to 60 minutes charging one up. Further you can only afford a city car if it is under $38K. Therefore, it cannot be your only car. Then if you are unlucky and the thing catches fire you better pray that the local fire department has the equipment to put the fire out. If the battery goes bad it's 15K to replace it. If you're an enthusiast really the only EV you would really want is the Hyundai Ionic 5 N. Why because it is programmed to sound like an Ice car instead of either no noise or a "Hoover" vacuum cleaner. The negatives of ownership outweigh the positives by about 10 to 1 now.
Audi used to sell an A3, A6 and A8.....then all of these other nebulous models came along and polluted their lineup....it would be nice to see a return to simplicity.
The LC500 is a great car, and I hope Lexus keeps making them. I’d love to have one, but I’m waiting for them to depreciate more. I’m sad to see the GT-R being discontinued, but not nearly as sad as I was when the MKIV Supra was discontinued. Now, that really hurt 😔 If you’re allergic to cats for heaven’s sake don’t touch your face after you handle them! That’s just applying the allergens directly to your eyes and nose. Wash your hands. Seconding the suggestion to wash the cats regularly to reduce the amount of allergens on their fur. If you start getting them accustomed to baths while they’re young, they’ll be more likely to tolerate bathing as they grow up. Loving the cats and cars content, two of my favorite things 😸
The prices on all these new cars are freaking insane. I'll just keep driving the 69 Camaro I have 20 grand into. I do not care if something with fancy disc brakes and power steering can get better mileage than the 396 4 barrel.
Fisker filed for bankruptcy because it was not a well-run business. Fisker's wife ran that company in the ground. Who loses $15 million dollars due to poor accounting processes, then spends six months getting the accounting books straightened out to properly account for that $15 million? Fisker.
@ 14:28 true about the process being "more expensive" in energy terms to produce, but as soon as "green" hydrogen can be produced effectively (ie: using renewable energy to work the hydrogen break down process instead of electricity from the grid) then hydrogen will start looking like a more viable option (IMO). Also, transportation of processed hydrogen fuel is (currently) difficult / expense but I'm positive (and so is Toyota) that hydrogen can (one day, maybe - hopefully soon) be a great alternative and long term zero emissions option to run our vehicles of the (hopefully) not too distant future.
I really thought hydrogen was going to take off. It's easy to make. You have a station that has water coming in. Electricity separates the hydrogen molecules from the oxygen molecules and it gets stored in a tank. Self replicating. Then a car comes in and fills up almost like gasoline. The only difference is the pump has to be sealed to the tank. There are a few videos. The issue is there are only a few stations in California and Arizona (I believe).

And just imagine how disappointed the family would be when you brought it home: "I can't believe you were so irresponsible and put a burden on our family like that. How are we going to take care of it? It'll be so expensive! But at least you got a free cat with it!"
That Volvo S90 Estate sure is a good looking wagon though! As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
Biggest mistake ever made by domestic manufacturers not making 2 door cars. Some of us are big and tall and love the wide opening of a coupe. Not a doorjamb that's in front of the seat making entry hard. Plus, don't need 4 doors because no one sits back there☹️☹️
April is nuts. The LC 500 is a work of art and worth every penny.
Another FUN video, love the facts about sales volumes
I am absolutely fawning over the LC500. My plan is to save up to buy a used low mil example of 4 or so years when depreciation bottoms out. The build quality and engine combo among other things will guarantee these to become one of the most overlooked cars of this decade. It is overshadowed performance wise by all of its competitors, but once that dust settles and people can appreciate it for what it is, the LC500 is truly 1 of 1.
You absolutely understand
Agreed, they're one of the most beautiful cars made, top quality, and the interior is amazing. I wish they'd go all out on a special edition before the model dies off and make it extremely fast to finally finish the package. Like an F Sport model... put the LFA engine in it 😂😂
I can’t help but roll my eyes every time she mentions the damn Volvo logo. 🙄
I live in a condo, how do you go EV or even PHEV when there is no place to even put a charger never mind plug your car in at home. Until the government can make it reasonable to charge your car when you do not own a house, EV and PHEV is going to take longer to become the standard.
Yeah, well, if Grenedier would advertise more than just loaning them to a couple select TH-camrs the name might get out there
What they should have done is make a hard core off roader promo model and get into all the off road competitions and events to bee seen by the crowds that are interested. Plus the free media publicity from being a new kid on the rock. Jeep became popular because all the attention it got in WW2. Hummer got all that media publicity when Schwarzenegger convinced the military sell him one.
@@NorthernChev do we know how quickly these vehicles are being produced?
@@DjangoFlaherty That is a good question. I do not.
But in 15 years, one of them is actually a Toyota and the other is a BMW that costs BMW money to keep running.
just go to the bmw dealership and try a z4, basicaly same car :P
The LC 500 is one of the most gorgeous, fantastic cars on sale today, both inside and out. Period. Fight me, April! 😂
I saw a large Lexus coupe in blue last summer and it was super sharp. That photo of a weird green Lexus thing looked similar, but very ugly.
The Lexus Coupe styling is beautiful.
If it had a zero to 60 under 4 performance then us old farts would be buying more of them
Remember so many of those awful cars from the 90s? 30 years from now, the same statements will be made for the cars made this year.
The Twister movie over Aprils shoulder, lol!
I can’t fathom how anyone would see the LC500 as anything but the beauty it is. Under appreciated now but so was Mozart in his time
April is SO GOOD a foil to Hoovies goofyness…what a find you are April
The reason is Tyler keeps looking at April and his brain melts lol

Grenadiers are a niche market. I think the "1500-2000" for 2024 is what they expexted to sell in the USA. They might get better sales in the near future when people get turned off by the abysmal quality of Land Rovers these days.
All the best cars were built last century, sad but true.
Kind of agree. There were some solid pre 2010 entries but the electrical and tech shit has made cars not worth keeping
2018-2020 all automakers hit their peak… the only thing we needed was better mpg but everything was beautiful with good powertrains… check out the bmw 7 series (2018 ) and the 7 series (2022) sad…
@@rtcturnemup7028 hello thank you for reply. I'm just frustrated driver. I don't like spending 30 seconds looking like an idiot trying to get my flush door handles to appear, so i can get in the retched thing. Then, going into menus to switch off the autostart. Then it starts to rain a few drops, and auto wipers switch on - i wouldn't use the wipers 99% of the windscreen is dry, its just dry wipers on dry glass - yikes. Then in the afternoon, the autolights keep switching on, off,on,off - looks like im an angry driver flashing cars. I enjoyed driving in the 2000's walk up to car unlock, and drive away 3 secs. Modern car i still be outside trying to swipe the door handles. If only there was an option where i could buy buttons not screens. Last Volvo commercial I saw they drove it off the side of a building
Oh my gosh! The undercover jokes based on your degree! Keep them coming!!!😂
Create artificial scarcity for a hot new product to drive up demand and add giant market adjustments
Continue only making a few, people write them off as overpriced and impossible to get and buy other cars
Sales don't meet expectations, model cancelled. "Nobody was buying them"
The Equinox EV was released the last week of May. Selling 1000 in six weeks is impressive.
Allergy meds give a brain fog… That way your wife can control you better
I have read that most people are allergic the the FELD1 protein in cats’ saliva, a water soluble protein (allergen) which cats cover themselves in by bathing. It can be reduced by bathing cats in water (those cats who tolerate bathing (could be a help. Please don’t shoot the messenger)).
Outside of the "car guys" community, NOBODY knows what a Grenedier is.
Hoovie handles the kittens, then rubs his eyes !
I really like the Lexus LC and the RC. I just feel like they priced it out of the market if they would have drop the price by about 10 grand on the RC in about 20 grand on the LC it would have made them a lot more appealing
The equinox and at least one more on the list just started selling in late June.
April and Tyler, such a perfect couple and man, they make this channel the bomb
The reasons I suspect the Z4 hasn’t sold well:
1. It was overshadowed from the beginning by the return of the legendary Supra name after 22 years
Good points about the ev's. President Trump said he will slow or stop the imports of ev's.
I’m vacationing in Europe, and sedans and wagons are quite common. Small crossovers exist, but large SUVs and trucks are rare Sedans and wagons are usually better drivers and better on gas than most any suv. Wake up America!
"We're gonna beat Medicare," made me laugh so hard.
I watched the debate too. History is not going to be kind to the Bidens knowingly running a campaign with him being senile.
I was slow to move to this channel over your work by yourself and the car trek stuff. I look foward to it now as i wind down from the day. I relly hope yall can Car Trek again at some point,
Instead of just listing cars with low number of total sales a more meaningful metric of low performing model sales would be the #days of inventory available on dealer lots. If the number is really high then it shows the sales aren’t meeting manufacturer expectations and could indicate an expected change.
Just found your channel, I like it.
I like both Lexus vehicles.

I watch just to look at April mommamia. Oh my
A family in my neighborhood owns a Grenadier. I was shocked when I saw it, but it is Oh, So COOL.

Ha, ha, ha...gotta love them Lexus Lampreys !
I love my Lexus RC 350. Wonderful car and looks really good in Red with tan leather (that’s how mine is spec’d)
People nowadays prefer SUVs over sedans and Exotic cars over luxury coupés…
I love the V90, out of my price range though. That's been the problem with Volvos.
I mean the Chevy Equinox EV just hit dealers a few weeks ago. The thing hasn’t even been advertised yet lmao

Nobody wants EV’s and now ALL vehicles cost more because of all the money these company spend engineering cars nobody wants. It’s crazy
Volvo: all time record sales and profits. A little too much ignorance on an entire brand for folks basing a show around cars.
@Hoovie, speaking from experience, Cat allergies get worse the more you’re exposed 😅, hope you’re taking an allergy pill, they help (some)
I live in an expensive country but the Ineos grenadier starting price is $57800 USD in my country compared to $71500 USD in the United states
Of all the cars mentioned here, I’d choose the small Fiat 500e. They’re a charm to drive. Always rent one when on the Spanish islands.

Re hydrogen-fueled cars:
Hydrogen vs. Helium
Carrying explosive devices on a hydrogen-filled balloon is certainly problematic, and there are a famous number of airship accidents.
Hydrogen is technically a very poor employment of energy, nearly impossible to store and dispensers are nonexistent.
There must be a law that say's an EV must have an ugly grill and ugly wheels.
Most of the wheels are ugly in the name of aerodynamics... no excuse on the grill though, they don't even need them really lol.
Love your chemistry
Audi used to sell an A3, A6 and A8.....then all of these other nebulous models came along and polluted their lineup....it would be nice to see a return to simplicity.
I feel like Ineos would have more success with just a Chevy or Ford V8. Like the 6.2 LS/LT, or a Ford 7.3 or 6.x liter V8 paired with a 10 speed auto.
The LC500 is a great car, and I hope Lexus keeps making them. I’d love to have one, but I’m waiting for them to depreciate more. I’m sad to see the GT-R being discontinued, but not nearly as sad as I was when the MKIV Supra was discontinued. Now, that really hurt 😔
If you’re allergic to cats for heaven’s sake don’t touch your face after you handle them!
Hoovie hates the cats you can just tell ....almost creepy when he pick ups the kittens
The prices on all these new cars are freaking insane. I'll just keep driving the 69 Camaro I have 20 grand into. I do not care if something with fancy disc brakes and power steering can get better mileage than the 396 4 barrel.
I’ve somehow seen 4 Grenadiers so far. Which is 3 more than the Fisker Ocean, wonder why Fisker filed for bankruptcy lol
I totally lost ANY interest in Volvo when it became 100% owned by China. I owned a number of Volvos prior to Geeley.

(stop him while you can...)
Watch your mouths on Audi 😬!! Anyway, I don’t pay attention to Audi much either anymore 🤣
