I first saw Jimmy by accident. I went to see Delaney Bramlett at the Troubadour in LA and Jimmy just happened to be the opening act. in 1974. Just Jimmy and a guitar. It moved me and I found his first album the next day. Then cam A-1A and I never looked back. I saw him once again at the Hollywood Bowl with the full band. He did not disappoint. I cried like a three year old when I learned he passed.
The first time I heard this Is when they played it live at Rockefeller Centre on the Today Show. This one has always stuck with me like many of his songs but if I had to choose a favorite this would be it. I play guitar and I love covering A Salty Piece of Land. Rest in Peace Jimmy. You left us too soon. Hope you found your Salty Piece of Land in Paradise.
I can't believe he's gone, love the way he wove his songs into this book, Where Is Joe Merchant & Tales from Margaritaville. Wish he could have written more before he left but damn he lived a good life & left a lot for us to enjoy in the time we have left until the last mango. RIP Jimmy, you paint the sky every night above the lone palm.
Been a Parrothead for over 30 years, 96 shows, met Jimmy twice and actually shared the stage on year due to a contest. This is by far my favorite song. Miss you Jimmy and thank you for giving us all you had.
Been sailing with Jimmy since about 1873 Smooth sailing James. Thanks for the memories. You weren't supposed to die.I had no idea his passing would leave me this broken. Time Heals all things.
I don't remember this song, but I love it. Even now I find gems that I've missed over the decades. RIP Jimmy Buffett - Thanks for the smiles and music. A legend never dies.
Just found this by accident on August 23, 2024, and Jimmy's still (and always will be) deeply missed. This world was a better place when he was still here with us. Thank you for sharing this song / video. Fins and Bubbles Up!!! 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
In 2006, I picked up the book in DFW airport on the way to Mexico to decide if I could retire there. Checked out Sayulita and Chacala. Bought a salty piece of land in Lo de Marcos. Built a casita overlooking the ocean. Went surfing. Ate shrimp tacos. Learned to make a decent margarita. I’ve since given that book to a dozen different people. Thank you and rest in peace, Jimmy.
These songs could save people a lot of money on therapy! I haven’t listened to Jimmy since Changes in Latitudes and graduated high school. I am taking my sons to Biloxi for a small vacay with Grandma so she can gamble and the Biloxi song came to mind. I started listening to old & new songs. Who knew Jimmy Buffet was a guru!
Just recently got the book. I'm only a few chapters in, but it's one of the best books I've read. Plus, I firmly believe there's a Tully Mars in all of us.
I found this book in the trash in 2007, while sitting in my truck waiting to be loaded with the CD still in back even and I started reading this and wish I had read it in my 20s
Out of all the cool things I’ve been Blessed to do, finding my own ‘salty piece of land’ has been one of the best things I’ve done. This song exemplifies my adventures thus far…….’She told me of a place where a man could hide forever and never lose his face…..’
Can’t recall how many times I’ve read this book. Plus have it on CD’s. Just fantastic. Have read all his books. All great. Outdid himself on this one. Master story teller!
My favorite book of many I've read. Love the song just as much. Saw him do Santa Barbara in 2019. Great show but was hoping he would play this one. For some reason this tune seems to be under the radar. I wonder why?
I very dear friend gave my this book when I was going through a shitty time in my life. I must have read it 5 times at least. She played me this song in her car before she gave me the book. I’d moved back to Florida from the mountains and had discovered fly fishing . I still thank her for pushing that book my way. The song is fantastic. Thank you for posting. Yes I’d love it to be released.
Raymond Jokerst I don't have the words but thank you the day we were leaving a diabetic cysts just was there I said let's go to hospital anñ cz they kept him he can6 CV b
Like a lot of other people.I first heard of Buffett when 'Margaritaville' hit the Top 40 airwaves back in the '70s. 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' was another one of his I'd been hearing a lot as well a little bit later on. But I had an older brother & sister whose jobs & lives both took them to S.Florida/Florida Keys, the Bahamas & the Caribbean/Gulf of Mexico some years earlier. Both each said to me while visiting at different times (This was the very late '70s /very early '80s) 'Next time you're at a music store, you really should check out some of the other stuff he's put out that gets little or no airplay most places'? So I did. And they were both right.....there is something both relaxing, poetic & 'deep' about his songwriting. I've also read a few of his book(s) as well as time has passed. And though my brother has since passed on,he's probably up there now swapping stories with 'Papa' Hemingway (He turned me on to him, too?) and drinking his scotch or brandy, (And he always got the Good Stuff, too?) my sister is smoking one of those 'funny cigarettes' (Right,Sis....like I didn't know you smoke those??) on her sailboat (Which seldom goes very far from the harbor for very long....my brother was a ship's captain and he'd always teased her about that!) and I'm just sitting here drinking my beer, and wondering if wherever this is are the fish biting, I'm sure we're all kicking back somewhere listening to this??
I'm glad you've found out about all his other music. I've started a Buffett fan club on Facebook called PARROTTHEADS FOR LIFE if you'd like to check it out
Here's a little story A few years ago they were seeking donations to repair an iconic lighthouse on Mt. Diablo in Contra Costa County and I tried to get them to give a copy of the book to anyone who donated to the cause. Unfortunately my idea didn't get through soon enough to make a difference. But they did get the lighthouse repaired after all. But I think it could have happened quicker if they'd used my idea
And now two of my other sisters have passed....as did Mr. Buffett this morning. I'm sure they all have kicked back & chilled out on a heavenly beach somewhere....'Fair Winds & Following Seas' to all of them.
OMG! Same thing happened to me; found the hardcover book in a Thrift store and was DELIGHTED to find the CD in the back (never opened!). AWESOME SONG!!!
love the story; one trip I got audio book CD version dad give I can get use to this and my bro give I must have read this book like 5 times and I'm finding thing's I missed.
All Jimmy's booksvare like he is having a conversation with you. The children's books he wrote with his daughter are fantastic. Jolly Mon & Trouble Dolls. I give Jolly Mon when littles turn 2 or 3. It was my son's favorite. I had to read it every night for almost a year. My sweet boy is now 32.☘️🦩🦩🎈
I won't try to quote it but there's a line in the book that basically says "sometimes its ok to just be patient and tread water" ... I just read this book and it helped me so much. I was never a "parrot head" before but I am now
I'm going to the beach in January. It will be chilly, but as Jimmy says even the worst of beaches (cold weather only in this case) will never let you down. Where are you going in May?

Jimmy's voice is true to the lyrics. I'm secretly happy that not many people know or request this song; almost like he is singing this just for me.

I hope you'll read Jimmy's book, same title. He was as good a Wordsmith as he was a Musician.

I know. this is one of my favorites. kind of a departure for Jimmy in terms of music and lyrics. the whole song feels like grandma ghost.
This will always be one of my favorites. I believe in many ways we are all searching for our own salty piece of land.
The song is the book.
And the book is the song.
Perfection.

It’s a book you will not put down or exchange at the 5 and dime!
Did you get the CD that is in the back of the book?
This song has lyrics that you will only understand after having read the book.
Yes sir!!
What is the name of the book

I don't think that anyone else's music transports me to another place the way his music does. 🌴💖🌊😭

I luv the Jimmy Buffet philosophy and mention him in my Caribbean and Florida Keys spy thrillers now and then. Go Jimmy!

Thanks Jimmy
The novel is for those of us that see life preserver in a sea of bad luck.
Even Garth Brooks says heartaches are healed by the sea. I want to take my pony (harley) to the shore,, on another road.
