OMG! Dude, your video literally saved me money and nerves. I purchased a brand new rx6800xt a couple of months ago and fell into depression with glitching, rebooting, and a black screen. I already thought to throw it out and buy a new Nvidia GPU. Now my GPU working amazingly. God bless you 🙏
This resolved my issue, so many driver uninstalls reinstalls over the past 2 years. Lowering settings all the way down. AMD should have figured this out lol. Thanks man!
I just bought a refurbished 5700xt (applied thermal paste, cleaned with compressed air). It had glitches and freezes/flickers even on desktop. Thank you so much for this. I got the same mobo too.
+1 more person helped by this video. I picked up a budget 5700 XT to have another go at Starfield after the patch only to find it crashing quickly into the intro. Turned off my light Ryzen 5600 overclock, and even turned the GPU power down to 50% in AMD Adrenalin software along with an aggressive fan curve. But the game would still crash to desktop during action. I thought it might be my PSU! You saved me, dude. Thanks!
I hope it keeps working for you man, or at least provides a bit more stability. Feel free to come back and let me know if it's fixed permanently or not, just so we know :) Good luck

thats a pretty shortsighted decision. u had two out of several generations. also u should have been always able to give it back to the seller.. the amd cards have one special skill ahead nvidia... nvidia slows down your current gen, when there comes a new generation. amd gets more performance over many years with the same card just by tweaking and updating the drivers. i had problems with both companies and i used to love nvidia many yrs. now i have a rx5700xt since 2020 and i could not be happier. bought it right before the crash for peanuts..

OMFG. I thought my GPU was dying. I’ve had this issue randomly forever. I did everything you did, but the under and over clocking/volting. Even tried Linux. I will say that it was and is so random, but only when I load up games. Sometimes it would go for hours or days. If I don’t return, assume it worked. I was just about to go to Reddit, which probably would have taken me down all the same wrong paths. You are a godsend sir.
I have the same GPU and I also have been getting a ton of crashes for the past 18 months that I have had it for. I can't believe that this small setting in the bios actually fixes all of the problems. Thank you so much
@@imagineakYT I couldn't actually find a setting in my asus motherboard bios that showed the PCI-E1 Gen Switch, my motherboard PCI Express is 3.0 and I'm not sure if Gen Switch is at auto or not because there is no option to change it
Didn't have the same option but did find a fix to my problem thanks to your video. Couldn't run anything at high settings without my 5600xt crashing or glitching constantly, turns out I needed to enable above 4G decoding and set ReBar to Auto. Now I'm running Cyberpunk 2077 at Ultra settings getting 65-81fps, limited to 75 and it stays at 75. So thank you, for at least pointing me in the right direction :)
if u have asus motherboard, its on different location. Asus motherboard owners should go " Advanced Settings > PCH Configuration > PCi Express configuration"
I'll definitely looking to see what my BIOS settings. But I also wanted to say that I really appreciate hearing all the angles you tried to fix the problem. Some of which are floating around in my watch later. Didn't really want to undervolt per se but it does seem like a good approach. Strange thing is. My AMD Athlon 200ge I had none of these issues until I upgraded to my ryzen 5 5500. It's great for renders I'm getting the impression that it's not so good for VR. Even though it is technically VR compatible. Keep up the good work sir and thank you.
Thank God i found this video, had been trying multiple things just like you, even replace the thermal pads with cooper and thermal paste, but this, this fixed it, I saw the option in the bios but it was like meh, I dont think it may be that. Thank you so much for uploading this. Gracias!
The crashes returned, RX 5700xt ASRock challenger, I changed the thermal pads for cooper ones just cause... I had been gaming since like 5 months and it can play everything I throw at it in ultra 1080p, high 1440p, even I can enable resizable bar, the dawn side is that I've been having crashes every now and then, even having to hard reboot the PC several times, and sometimes the GPU drivers get corrupted afterwards and I have to reinstall them. Looking in the internet this particular GPU chip from every manufacturer is having issues with crashing/freezing, I have tried everything except under volt to solve the problem, once and for all. I am using a Kingston a400 SSD (who is very bad) I'm beginning to think it may be related, because the corruption of the driver after the crashes and that sometimes the data used in the disk seems to randomly change, for example ( it left 13.2 gb of space, then crashes occur and boom driver gets corrupted and misteriously now it left 1.2 gb of space in the SSD, next thing I will try to do is change the disk, it looks like this SSD don't have a data controller chip. Other thing is that it seems that the crashes happens more on some versions of the driver rather than others, since I always update I have noticed this.
Dude yesssssss! After a year of struggling with driver crashes and fruitless attempts at fixing it, you have given me a working solution. I thought I was going to have to buy a new card…. Thank you!
Sorry to hear about the issues OP. My 5700 XT has always been flawless. (the few software issues with the driver UI itself I know like the back of my hand and I know how to handle them). But actually gaming with it? The experience has been a dream.
How to solve UI freezes in windows on idle use? A also have an hdmi sound stuttering and AMD support can´t help me. With my old RX 570 I have no problems
Excuse my English, because I'm Brazilian and I'm using google translator. I want to leave here my sincere thanks. I had already lost all hope of being able to fix this problem, and you managed to help me. Thank you very much friend. You are a friend
Salve.
@shoobror8291 it seemed to help for a while but then it started doing it again, I substituted my 1050ti for a while but it did it with that so I've come to the conclusion that my case wasn't getting enough air flow. I've taken the side panel off since then and not had any issues. Someday I'll get a better case and fans and replace my cpu cooler with hybrid to free up space.
Just want to thank you i had the issue with 6700 xt causing pc rebooting every time I played demanding games. Now all gone, you are my hero thanks again for creating this video! 😊

in 2018, I returned my RX 5700 XT for a RTX 2070 Super and haven't had issues since then. As much as I wanted to join team red, I just cannot handle the constant crashing / issues

Before card run in good temps but Ihad these crashes and reboots. But after I changed termal pads i runs great again. Thickness verie on card. I wish you gud life man. You helped me a lot anyway.
@@imagineakYT I still had some issues but I seem to have finally fixed the problem, and pcie 4 is OK too. Basically I got More Power Tools from the Igors Lab website, and loaded the config for a stock AMD RX 5700 non XT ROM from Techpowerup. I then saved it as an .mpt file. I downloaded Red Bios Editor from Igor's Lab, loaded a copy of my initially saved RX 5700 XT rom file and applied the RX 5700 .mpt file in RBE and saved a new modded ROM. This was flashed over my card's rom and eliminated the problem. I them fine tuned the MPT settings, important ones being lower max power consumption and amps, and lower max frequency which I settled on 135W and 150A and 1750 Mhz boost 1900. This was applied to the final modded ROM after experimenting and testing stability. BTW AMD drivers have no issues working with the modded card ROM and showing the altered mpt settings.
Can you borrow it for a couple of days to test it? Or are you buying it online? Since you can see the amount of views this video has, I'd guess this GPU has problems. It's a coin flip. Some get a working card, some don't. This card is GREAT when it works. If you can get an alternative, maybe buy it instead of this.@@mariusdoesart
I feel like I was absolutely blessed with this GPU I bought it for a very discounted price, upgraded from a 1660 non-Ti, and this GPU is insane It basically runs everything on ultra with no issues at all at 1080p I used DDU beforehand and haven't had any issues for the past week, been playing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Deus Ex Mankind Divided (Which has weird performance in the main city, I went from 60FPS to 150 depending on where I was looking at with High settings, then my brother suggested I cranked everything up to Ultra and the FPS remained the same? What a beast of a card) and it's just been running everything smoothly Only 'issue' I had was a few hours ago when I was running two Bluestacks emulators, running a Steam game and watching a 1080p video at 2 times speed, my screens went black for a while, then they came back on and a message popped up saying the display driver found an issue or something, but nothing bad happened, I just restarted my games ^-^ I think mine's been running well since my motherboard thankfully has PCIe 4 support I'm glad you found a fix, and I hope yours keeps running well :)
bro thanks a lot i also flashed my gpu bios, changed fan curve, changed thermal paste and pads, changed every part except my gpu to make shure everything else works fine and also installed my whole system 30+ times new because i thought some other programs like discord, spotify.... caused the driver problems i even buyed nt lite to make the smallest win build possible becuase i was thinking that maybe windows is messing with my drivers
Just put a build together with a rx5600 and changed it right away from auto to gen3. Msi x470 Gaming Plus Max motherboard. Ryzen 5 5500. Thanks bro. Now i can run another benchmark to see if there is anything different in performance
I'll give you a like, even though it wasn't my problem. I've been annoyed for about a year and don't want to accept that my system isn't working. I just want the system to work. I have the Asus x370-a and I can't change the PCI settings. I read something in a forum that got me thinking and this board is a Crossfire X board, so I have another PCI connection underneath. I actually thought it wouldn't work, I don't know why I thought that, a while ago I was of the opinion that the connection only works if there is already a card in the first one. But it worked straight away and my system is suddenly running at an unexpected speed. I think the card had previously slowed down my entire system, but I stopped noticing it after a while.... The PC isn't the best anymore, but it can still play everything pretty well, almost everything in 1440p.
Glad you found something that works for you. Sometimes I suppose it can be a mix of things and we can all find something that works for us. Unfortunately some are unfixable.
I wished I came across this video two months ago when I got my own RX 5700XT and had random crashes and failed VGA driver installs. It would have saved me all the troubleshooting and reinstalls of the OS I went through to resolve the same issue. I tried all the things you described too. I changed the same setting in my MSI BIOS after updating to a newer BIOS as one of the last troubleshooting steps and finally the PC crashes have stopped (fingers crossed 🤞🏿😃)
Gonna try this now. Im hoping its just this issue. and not the used rx 5700xt i just bought. It was fine for a week, then i decided to run cyberpunk. my monitors shut off while the game audio was still playing. My search has brought me here!
I bought a 5700xt in Nov, 2019. it's a cheaper 5700xt so it's noisy, i set it to 1900mhz, 1000mV to make it quieter, and it work fine until Oct, 2021. After Oct,2021, When I run some 2D games or just chrome, the PC occasionally reboot, and the wattman settings back to default, a whea-18 error will be record in win10 event viewer. At the begining I thounght it's a CPU or memory error cause whea-18, but I upgarde 3600 to 5700x, and changed memory, it didn't make better. Finaly I found it's GPU problem, I set it's wattman to default and it work fine. The price is that I start to suffer from the noise again.
Oh my fucking lord I have this exact same issue. 5700XT is the most sensitive GPU I’ve ever seen in my life, It’s to the point if I update windows or drivers my PC just black screens randomly… and often
Hey, I had the same problem, except the card worked most of the time, but the bigger problem was massive throttling on the core clock, even tho GPU temperature showed 60°. GPU randomly down clocked from like 1950mhz to 1400mhz. Turned out it was the GPU Hotspot, which was causing that! It reached 113°c sometimes. I had to repaste the card and watched out I evenly screwed down the screws and now it runs rock stable at 1950mhz. 😊
Holy shit I've been having the same crashes for the past 3 years now and even run the same hardware as you. I'm gonna try this tomorrow and let you know how it went and if I run into any further issues. This probably is why I run into so many issues, you're a lifesaver man. Thanks in advanced!
Haven't ran into any issues so far, but If I still get crashes randomly from time to time, I'll let you guys know and keep you updated. If you don't see any new comment from me, assume nothing bad has happened so far :)
Bro there is no way this is it… I just found the video and I’ll do it soon. I’ve been fighting with this gpu since over 4 years now and gave up. I had the EXACT same issues. I don’t believe that it’s gonna work but we ll see. If yes, I would be so greatful. But this bug is more than enough for a basic consumer to buy NVIDIA instead of AMD

I went through this exact experience with a used 5700 xt. With a aorus b550 board and ryzen 5600. Card passed all benchmarks fine. As soon as i started a game would instantly crash with fortnite, when grass would load in on ark epic settings. My solution that worked for me was underclocking the gpu down to ~1500 mhz. With slight undervolting. This might be due to spikes on the 12v rail and inconsistent delivery of power causing issues, one post mentioned that the 5700 chipset is sensitive to this. I have a gold rated power supply but havent tried a different one. Benchmarks were almost identical to default settings, but would no longer crash in games. Hopefully this helps someone else.
I have same build as yours. Also sent to the shop and same advice as you had. Mine solved last years after I downgrade MB bios version. AMD really gave me headaches lol.
I went through this, too. I had random crashes in games, random freezes on desktop, and graphical errors (checkerboard artifacts and other weird patterns). I never managed to figure it out, and I, too, swapped out the Mobo (x470), PSU, RAM, CPU, and tried my GPU's twin (5700)- nothing worked. After 3 years of struggle and tearing out my hair, I upgraded to a Dark Hero, 5900x, and a 6950 XT, and haven't had a single crash since. Both my Mobo and GPU are Gen4.
i have a B550 board and still have the crashes despite it has Gen 4 support. I think it´s on auto and I will change it to Gen 4 and hope it works then. The AMD 5000 series was the the first 7nm gpu series so I guess they fucked up to set it up properly for customers. I was really getting used to have a PC which was called "Diva" by me because sometimes it worked just fine over weeks and suddently it would crash with no reason. I always checked for windows updates, for AMD driver updates but nothing worked and the crashes kept comming. I hope it works now.
My 5700 XT Recently started acting up and crashing somewhat often even though i’ve had it for some time , though i do remember accidentally changing some settings in my bios that i didn’t mean to change .either way I could play for longer hours at times and then I would crash randomly - or it would just crash as soon as i get into gameplay quickly. the drivers would always turn off the picture and display and nothing would work at all , while my PC is still on - even turning it off and back on wouldn’t work - I had to disconnect the power cable then plug it back on and then it would display picture . hopefully these settings work. also trying the pro software instead of adrenaline ^
Just did this on an ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F Gaming. For anyone with an ASUS bios it should be under a setting called "Onboard Devices Configuration". Thanks dude! So many years of misery hopefully solved haha.
That guy that said that AMD drivers were bad and you should buy Ngreedia... Biased? You think? Anyway, as someone who has almost the same system (even the same monitor wtf), my system was almost flawless, in the first year, I had weak psu that was shutting down my computer, people said the same shit for me, and, as it is with almost everyone, the problem is almost always somewhere else than AMD drivers (btw I work in the field), 9 ou of 10 cases, and when the problem is in the drivers, is bad installation or corrupted files, all fixed with a simple reinstall. I'm glad you could fix your problem mate, and with everything that happened these years, I would've gone nuts, but you kept it going and found a solution, cheers.
Had the same problem with my Asus B450F Gaming 2 before. It wont detect my gpu and my m.2 ssd on the 2nd slot. I even updated its bios thinking it would fix it. Guess I was lucky when I was tinkering with the bios settings specifically on the tab advanced>onboard device config>m.2_2 link mode where changing from auto to Gen3 fixed the problem. 😂
Wow man, thank you!! Fyi, this also worked on a board with PCIE 4. My system would get an and driver error which would crash anything running and sometimes cause the system to reboot. Was driving me crazy!!! Tried everything haha but found this, went into the bios and changed it from auto to PCIe 4, and it worked lol mine was a MSI board as well. no crash since. So Im not even sure it was because it was PCIe 4 and you had a 3 mobo. Maybe an issue with MSI mobos? Anyway, thanks!!
My 3 year old rx5700xt Aorus would crash constantly on Spiderman. I changed the thermal paste. Temps dropped by 12c on hotspot and not a single crash since.
I have the B450 Tomahawk Max, RX 5700XT and R5 3600. I was looking to use this method but in the BIOS under Advanced and PCI subsystem settings, only "PCI_E1 - Max Link Speed", "Chipset Gen Switch", "Above 4GB memory/Crypto Currency Mining" and "PCI_E1 Lanes Configuration" show up. Any suggestions?
I have a red devil and I've found installing the Radeon pro drivers works fine. I've also installed drivers only no adrenaline software on a PC with a gigabyte 5600. Although both computers I had a 5700xt by red devil installed on have been crashing like crazy. Adrenaline pro drivers, the blue ones. Have worked amazing. No crashes since. Try that, or try drivers only no software.
@@zangiefromanov2563 I think so. I used the blue pro drivers and software. Not the normal red adrenaline software. They don't update the pro drivers as much but it works. It was either that or dropping my ram speed a bit from 3600 to 3200. The few fps loss is worth the stability in my books. I did both and I'm. It sure what solved it. Either ram speed or pro drivers. I'm leaving it as is as it hasn't crashed in months since making those two changes. Without the change the crashed could be daily, or weekly, usually while in a heavy gaming session. Try - pro drivers with the blue software - slower ram speed 3200 vs 3600 for me
I've also had problems with this card for 2 years, I had a golden period in between there were zero problems, I've run this fix in the past but was only temporarily, can't wait to get new pc in near future, never going AMD again, never....
Saw this and I was super optimistic. It did not change my actual issue. I have a 5700xt red devil. Never had a single issue with it until Final Fantasy VII remake on steam. It crashes all the time and it's the only game I am facing issues with. so weird
@@madagreement yeah, I agree. Its weird. My other games ran no issue. Only Spiderman would crash and started to crash more frequently. New paste definitely helped
@@johnconnor1933 I have been advised to do a clean install of windows from the start. Pretty weird but then I can be sure that it is a hardware issue and then, I will try the paste like you said. Pretty annoying though

Thank you!

It basically runs everything on ultra with no issues at all at 1080p
I used DDU beforehand and haven't had any issues for the past week, been playing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Deus Ex Mankind Divided (Which has weird performance in the main city, I went from 60FPS to 150 depending on where I was looking at with High settings, then my brother suggested I cranked everything up to Ultra and the FPS remained the same? What a beast of a card) and it's just been running everything smoothly
Only 'issue' I had was a few hours ago when I was running two Bluestacks emulators, running a Steam game and watching a 1080p video at 2 times speed, my screens went black for a while, then they came back on and a message popped up saying the display driver found an issue or something, but nothing bad happened, I just restarted my games ^-^

Just a note that may help someone, I've tried what you did, but what worked for me was undervoltage. Thank you for the tip anyway!

O hope it doesnt happen to me bc i also bought a used rx 5700 xt

I had the same problem, except the card worked most of the time, but the bigger problem was massive throttling on the core clock, even tho GPU temperature showed 60°.

Turned out it was the GPU Hotspot, which was causing that! It reached 113°c sometimes.
I had to repaste the card and watched out I evenly screwed down the screws and now it runs rock stable at 1950mhz. 😊

Hopefully this helps someone else.
u should try to enable re-size bar support(smart memory access) for gpus like ur have it can go up to 30% perfomance boost.
Yes, but more like up to 12% for some games that are compatible...
How to do this?
I have same build as yours. Also sent to the shop and same advice as you had. Mine solved last years after I downgrade MB bios version. AMD really gave me headaches lol.
I went through this, too. I had random crashes in games, random freezes on desktop, and graphical errors (checkerboard artifacts and other weird patterns).

Bought a 7900xtx 1,5 months ago. Drivers kept perma crashing. I tried literally everything there is, every reddit forum, every yt video. I sent the card back and I am now using the integrated GPU in my 7800x3d and I am waiting like this 2 months to replace it with a 4090 (need to save some extra money). The headaches I had with my 5700xt (or generally amd gpus) back since 2019 when I bought it with a 9900k, is in my opinion not worth it to save a little versus nvidia gpus that mostly come absolutely problemfree.
