    Man, watching old Game Sack episodes now feels nostalgic about nostalgia.

    I hate that I am at best 6 years late to the Game Sack party... I didn't really get into ScrewTube until a few years ago, in my late 30's...
    But I love that as a direct result of having been so late to the party here, there is a fairly huge backlog of fucking awesome videos for me to watch!
    Thanks, dudes!

    I've gotta say that you guys impress me. I was randomly searching TH-cam for older game reviews and stumbled upon you guys. I have to say, I've watched nearly all of your videos and I want to say thank you. As a soldier, I get a lot of "Thank yous" but I want to say thank you to you guys for cheering me up every time I watch one of you videos. It's the small things in life that matter, and you guys seem to have right mix of awesomeness.
    Thank you GameSack,

    Thank you for mentioning Pilotwings 64. I played it back at launch and whenever I listen to the soundtrack on my phone, I immediately go back to 1996/1997 and remember the good times. Probably one of my favorite Nintendo 64 games.

    Simon isn't in Castlevania the Adventure. You play as Christopher Belmont as that game takes place 100 years before the first Castlevania (and Castlevania 4 on SNES since that is a remake not a sequel)

    Hey guys, New-ish subscriber. I'm really enjoying expanding my knowledge of gaming with all the obscure systems and games you guys present. It's nice to have a channel that doesn't talk about how great Zelda is all the time and I really like all the Sega info considering I've been a NES fanboy my entire life. Solid show, fellas!

    One of my favorite follow-ups was Samurai Shodown II for the Neo-Geo. A larger roster, better visuals, better music...really fantastic in every conceivable way. It was totally worth the $230 I spent on it!

SMS vs NES- like Double Dragon, Batman (1989), Bubble Bobble, Commando (I think) vs Rambo, Zelda Vs Golvellious, and side-by-sides of Tengan bootlegs: Shinobi SMS Vs NES, Afterburner SMS Vs. NES, California Games... The rest I forgot.

    I'm pretty sure Street Fighter 2 is the mother of Superior Follow-Ups. Other contenders include Dead or Alive 2, Warcraft 2, Assassin's Creed II and GTA III (though the last three aren't the kind of games Game Sack covers or even enjoys I guess)

      - Marvel vs Capcom 2
      - Super Smash Bros. Melee
      - Gran Turismo 2 (I think i'm Paranoid)
      - Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped
      - Grand Theft Auto III (reinvisioning from GTA 2)
      - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (refinement from GTA3)
      - Zone of the Enders 2 (LOCK-ON!)
      - Streets of Rage II (Go Straight)
      - Sonic 2 (You could tell Joe wanted to at least mention it at the end!)

      @singularon1 I'm not saying it isn't better, I think if we judged it objectively it certainly is, but there's a certain appeal to rougher, mysteriously pure games like the first Nier that I just prefer. Its how Demons Souls can still be my favourite Souls game in spite of how far the series has progressed and undoubtedly improved. I kinda like that its not more accessible. Makes it feel more...special, I guess.

    Best. Episode. Ever.
    No kidding. Not only did I really enjoy your picks for games & sequels here, but the humor in the Jurassic Park segment had me in stitches. There was some other well-placed humor, too, which mixed really well with the knowledge and opinions being shared. It made for a really, really entertaining watch.
    I'm one of those weird pinball fans, and am thrilled that you mentioned the Crush games. My brother and I used to alternate on Alien Crush on the TG-16 back in 1990 and I loved it. The screen alternation-- as opposed to scrolling to follow the action-- was (and is) a bit off-putting as losing track of the ball can really affect your ability to follow what's going on. Sadly, I never got to play Devil's Crush on the original hardware. My experience was via Dragon's Fury on the Genesis and it was (and is) a blast to play, despite a hit in the sound department.
    Thanks again for continuing to deliver these vids. Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh, Left 4 Dead 2. Portal 2, Half Life 2, Fatal Frame 2, Luigi's Mansion 2, WWF Smackdown 2, WWF No Mercy, Turok 2, Speedball 2, Target Renegade, Turrican 2, Tomb Raider 2, Metal Slug 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Dead Space 2, Rainbow Islands.

      jgfjgfify look up the word 'preference'

    • @dennett316
      @dennett316 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      jgfjgfify
      Yup. More interesting and more varied gameplay...also better graphics, but that's a given and doesn't matter hugely. The first game is an obvious classic, but SMB2 beats it in every category other than not being the original. I don't care that it wasn't a "real" Mario game, it was still developed by Nintendo, and still has some of that magic.

    • @dennett316
      @dennett316 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jgfjgfify
      I'm clouded by nostalgia, because I prefer the more recent game of the two? Huh? Also, your only rationale is it's not a "true" Mario game, which I've already said doesn't concern me, and in fact, the game it was based on was actually created by members of the original Mario team, and developed in-house at Nintendo. Sounds like you're incapable of accepting that not everyone likes the same stuff that you like.
      Gameplay has more variety will still retaining a lot of the original feel. There's more variety in characters available, who all have slightly different abilities and give the game more replay value, and even some strategy in utilising the best character for a particular level. More enemy variety, more secrets to find, vertical AND horizontal platforming and more skill required throughout.
      I've laid MY reasons out clearly, while you just spout vague dismissals and say nothing to actually back yourself up.

      @tubularLeah 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your argument of "SMB2 just strays so far from the formula, mechanics, gameplay" is what actually makes it not a "true" Mario game, at least in my opinion :s

    Improved sequels;
    Genso Suikoden II, which overall improved the graphics, the gameplay, and the music.
    Seiken Densetsu III, A game which was never officially released in the west, but is a sequel to Secret of Mana, and had three different final bosses, depending on who you picked as your main character, fantastic art direction, and wonderful music.
    Super Mario Bros. 3 seems an obvious choice due to the fact that they greatly expanded on the variety of gameplay graphics, and music.
    Street Fighter 2 is another sequel that left its predecessor in the dust, to the point that it was one of the most popular fighting games of its time, and can still be found in arcades that appeal to nostalgia, and the original Street Fighter is a game barely anyone has played.
    Streets of Rage 2 was also a sequel that improved a lot on the groundwork laid down by the first game. 3 improved a lot as well, but the difficulty was spiked when it was localized for US release, and made it very unpopular
    Star Ocean II was a fantastic followup to a SNES game that never got localized in its original form(but eventually game over to the US in the PSP, as Star Ocean: First Departure)

    Nice topic. Let me add:
    - Thunder Force II (now that's a gap!).
    - Street Fighter II (same).
    - Otogi 2 (not as much but still a superior sequel to an already amazing game).
    & though I don't agree about Super Mario land 2 since I like them both equally & even find the 1st one to be a better platformer, it's clear that Devil Crash improved a lot over Alien Crush mainly thanx to the added scrolling which makes things so much more enjoyable! I especially love the improved Mega Drive version, Devil Crash MD (renamed Dragon's Fury in US), with its higher resolution (meaning non-stretched graphics), superbly redesigned bonus stages & many hidden music!

    Always great to see some Turbo love. For a superior sequel I would have to go with Quest for Glory 2. The first game really was a great adventure/RPG and 2 really expanded on it in every way. Way more and diverse characters to meet, a more sprawling area to explore, more actions unique to each character class, an improved combat system that allowed multiple enemy encounters and more strategy. The only down sides are that it isn't new-comer friendly due to how the city is laid out and the game does have a time limit before heading to the final section which can hinder you if you are not prepared, but once you know what you are doing that shouldn't be an issue.

    I knew there was another Super Mario game for the Game Boy!!! I rekindled my gaming habit a few years ago, got a Game Boy since my old one went out when my parents moved for the 91st time, and played Super Mario Land, but it felt very anaemic to how I remembered it when I borrowed it from a friend to play on my own Game Boy and thus spent a whole weekend (and my parents' AA battery supply) transfixed by it because it had to go back on Monday.
    Now I know what I was missing and have bought a copy of my own.

    Super Mario Land 2 will always have a very special place in my heart, it's just so different from the other games in the series. Not that I don't love the usual Mario settings but playing Land 2 with all it's unique levels is always a refreshing experience. My personal favorite Superior sequel has to be DuckTales 2 on NES, the original is one of my favorite games and the sequel improves upon it in almost every way.

    Another great video. Your commentaries, along with the choice game footage you show, really makes me want to check out some of these games. The Devil's Crush segment is particularly enticing. And like many others who have commented here, I was thoroughly amused by the Jurassic Park bits.
    For me, Fire Emblem: Awakening is the epitome of the superior follow-up. It fixed absolutely everything that was wrong with its predecessors, and the Pair Up system opens up a whole new world of strategy. The lack of a resurrection mechanic was always the bane of the Fire Emblem series, making the games at once too easy and too frustrating (though they are nonetheless great fun). The changes made in Awakening result in a game which is a strong challenge that isn't too frustrating, even with the resurrection mechanic turned off.

    Panzer Dragoon 2 on the Saturn was a huge step up for me from the first one. It was so much faster and I really liked the new composer. Virtua Figher 2, same thing. Faster gameplay, crisper graphics just made the game so much better. Tobal No. 2 on the PSX was also really cool. It had a 60 FPS mode that was a blast to play.

    Is it just me or do the SNES's graphics look soo much better and cleaner than the 64's? I know the polygonal abilities of the 64 are cool and allow it to do some unique things, but I sure do love the sleek clean look of the SNES games.
